Air Base Lighting

I agree amido!!! anything that can help with immersion on the ground is always a plus in my opinion! Thanks Arty for bringing this up!

Thank you guys, lots of support but I don’t see any actual participation or willing to contribute by others.
I’m not saying it’s a vast project but I have started many things, 3d in general and for IKAROS, other things for IKAROS, 2 manuals, now this… I already kinda abandoned the 3d cities FBB project…
Anyway let’s keep our hopes high and let’s see how it goes.On a side note if someone can help on producing a dedicated guide might also help.
Meaning now I must go through many pages and various docs to gather all the needed info and details.
So a post like for this lighting system all needed are those. Diagram measurements color and whatever is available to help a 3d modeler.
Then the other , and so on.
It could be like an index also, like diagram on xxxx link document page xx. Measurements xxx link document pages xx to xx.
Maybe and some links with actual photos or even videos.
This might help others to get started.
Even adding things I forgotten or don’t even know and r needed to make the list more complete.
Or texturers that could texture up some models.Στάλθηκε από το MI 5 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk

Arty, If you dont find any dimensions you can always compare it next to an airplane or a vehicle. But if you want specific diagrams (probably for different types) i cannot help that much. Things i made for the Phantom for example i compare them always with the actual model in the scene and scaling/editing as needed. I know it isn the right way but is what i do! At least its easy to find pictures on the net that you can compare it with something right?
-
Thanks Manos1981.
Well dimensions are there in the docs.
What i’m saying is if someone that can’t help on the 3d or texturing can help by gathering the info per lighting system specific so that the 3d modeler or texturer will not have to go through the various docs and pics and links to finalize what is needed per lighting system.
Or if someone has them in an organized manner already or there is a doc that is very clear and specific… please share. -
Arty, when I do the buildings we talked about, is there a limit or an area that I need to stay in? What I mean is, can I do buildings around an airport or does a building have to be within the airport boundaries? I hope this makes sense?
Boomer

Buildings can be wherever. There is no limitation.
Just in case this thread is for airbase lighting and not airbases in general.Στάλθηκε από το MI 5 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk

OK, sorry about that Arty.
-
No problem Boomer. I see u started a new thread already.
Nice.
This way things will be easier for you and the rest of the guys to follow progress and provide info and help.
Good luck, we all going to help.Στάλθηκε από το MI 5 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk

Hello everyone,
I have been reading about airport lighting systems and capability of computar programs such as 3ds Max. As some of you know I am also trying to develop an airbase. I am currently focusing on lighting the airbase. I developed some theories about lighting, 3ds, Falcon’s databese and database’s avability. What I realized is, I think it is possiable to build an “acceptable” realistic lighting system for an airbase in Falcon. But some features can take really long time and result might not be able to satisfy everybody. I would like to hear your toughts about lighting. I am currently trying develop something new about lighting. I will keep this thread updated. I will share my experience. I have reached a lot of source but I need ask you for more source about computer programs and lighting in computer games. I wish you all a good day.

Are those all or we need more?Nice one Arty…

Hello everyone,
I created taxiway and runway lights for my model using old style lights. But I cannot put the file in the game. When I try to use LOD Editor it keeps saying that “too much vertices program will shut down”. How can I fix this issue?
More explanation: When I cut my lights model to into pieces I am able to work with LOD Editor properly.

Have you tried adding them through the BMS Editor??

I did not try that. But the thing is, I know only one way of creating the lights. I created a 3ds file with vertices in it. Then I converted the file to LOD and then I tried to create the lights using LOD Editor. But I cannot use LOD editor. When I say open the file(in LOD editor) I get that error message.
-
How did you created the vertices in 3ds max?
Iirc they must be on a line (polyline)
Then to lod then in lod editor you convert the vertices of the polyline to ptype zero iirc and you set the color of it.
If the file doesn’t open in lod editor then there it’s no way to use it in falcon to set the lights. Now a nice addition for the Taxiway lights would be to have many lods for them. Lod 1 a normal 3d object with low display distance like 100-200ft lod2 a lower poly model with distance 200-500 lod3 even lower with 500-1000feet and then lod4 the known falcon lights.
Best would be if they had and light reflected on the tarmac but it’s an Overkill as one by one must be set in lodeditor.
Replacing current positioned 3d model with a taxi light in 3ds is super easy with a script. The poly count is enormous for lodeditor but can be split.
Later on I might post a link of my low poly 3d model for taxilight in case someone wants them for BMS.
Iirc I have 3 LODS.
Testing them with some hundreds of them I didn’t notice serious fps impact and you can adjust the distances to have minimum fps impact.Στάλθηκε από το MI 5 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk

Make sure your oine has no more than 35 vertices per segment, if necessary break segments into separate pieces.
