Hello everyone,
I have been reading about airport lighting systems and capability of computar programs such as 3ds Max. As some of you know I am also trying to develop an airbase. I am currently focusing on lighting the airbase. I developed some theories about lighting, 3ds, Falcon’s databese and database’s avability. What I realized is, I think it is possiable to build an “acceptable” realistic lighting system for an airbase in Falcon. But some features can take really long time and result might not be able to satisfy everybody. I would like to hear your toughts about lighting. I am currently trying develop something new about lighting. I will keep this thread updated. I will share my experience. I have reached a lot of source but I need ask you for more source about computer programs and lighting in computer games. I wish you all a good day.

Are those all or we need more?Nice one Arty…

Hello everyone,
I created taxiway and runway lights for my model using old style lights. But I cannot put the file in the game. When I try to use LOD Editor it keeps saying that “too much vertices program will shut down”. How can I fix this issue?
More explanation: When I cut my lights model to into pieces I am able to work with LOD Editor properly.

Have you tried adding them through the BMS Editor??

I did not try that. But the thing is, I know only one way of creating the lights. I created a 3ds file with vertices in it. Then I converted the file to LOD and then I tried to create the lights using LOD Editor. But I cannot use LOD editor. When I say open the file(in LOD editor) I get that error message.

How did you created the vertices in 3ds max?
Iirc they must be on a line (polyline)
Then to lod then in lod editor you convert the vertices of the polyline to ptype zero iirc and you set the color of it.
If the file doesn’t open in lod editor then there it’s no way to use it in falcon to set the lights. Now a nice addition for the Taxiway lights would be to have many lods for them. Lod 1 a normal 3d object with low display distance like 100-200ft lod2 a lower poly model with distance 200-500 lod3 even lower with 500-1000feet and then lod4 the known falcon lights.
Best would be if they had and light reflected on the tarmac but it’s an Overkill as one by one must be set in lodeditor.
Replacing current positioned 3d model with a taxi light in 3ds is super easy with a script. The poly count is enormous for lodeditor but can be split.
Later on I might post a link of my low poly 3d model for taxilight in case someone wants them for BMS.
Iirc I have 3 LODS.
Testing them with some hundreds of them I didn’t notice serious fps impact and you can adjust the distances to have minimum fps impact.Στάλθηκε από το MI 5 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk

Make sure your oine has no more than 35 vertices per segment, if necessary break segments into separate pieces.

Oine?
And iirc this was kinda not needed as another member said.

Hello guys,
This is how I created vertices:
And, this is what happens when I convert to editable poly from editable spline.
I am able to create lights LOD file but I cannot create those invisible polys, lights only work on the visible polys.
By the way, when I do this approach you do not get any limit of vertices.
Edit: I am using 3ds Max 2014

Wrong side of fifty mate Huge typo on my part - LINE
Depends what method is being used - mhm post suggests he is using the old style segments/vertices method, in which case there is a limit in the region of 35 vertices per segment.

Thanks for the reply Malc, Just asking for verifying: With old style lighting method there is a limit for the vertice amount, right? Also, there is no other way for the old style lights?

If you can give me a day or so I’ll post some more info for you - tied up with RL stuff currently

Thanks for the reply Malc, take your time, don’t worry.

Another issue: I am sure there is no more than 21 vertice in a spline but I still get the same LOD Editor error “too many vertices”. Any idea guys?

In 3DS Max, make sure the lines are actually Lines and not Curves (select segment, right click, tick next to Line). If it is a curve, you won’t see the individual vertices in 3DS but once exported the extra vertices (perhaps 7 per segment!) will be there and the count goes through the roof.

Thank you so much Malc, this solved my problem.
