Sticky request…
-
Dave you wrote “Where possible place multiple features on one 2038x2048 texture”.
Did you mean 2048x2048 ? -
-
Vehicles
Both the normal and destroyed models will use the same texture. Where possible models from the same unit should be places on a single 2048x2048 texture. It should be possible to include at least 4 vehicles on a texture this size.
Just to add. I cannot stress this enough. Please if your doing ground vehicles, do ones from the same unit and map them all to ONE texture where possible. This is that when they are rendered the GFX engine only has to load ONE texture to render several vehicles. This is possibly the biggest FPS hit in rendering ground vehicles is to have to load multiple textures.
Cheers

Wavey,……PM me,Please…
Me Think’s you missed something there in the code, compared to the DB’s.
AND I would like to see it slowed down abit now.B4 we go AGAIN….“Head over Heel’s” so to speak.I’ll put it more precise for us:
Sharing CT’s in Falcon is a NoNo in Falcon, though you can from a Modeler’s view point. You WILL run into a problem when the AirTaskingManager or GroundTaskingManager…or the NavalTaskingManager run’s into it.demer

Glad to know WD is in charge of model stuff.
For old lods, a LE trick to fuse multiple skins into one.
http://tactical.nekromantix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=22524For models i can offer, all in the zip. ya know.
now some random thoughts…
- Glad to hear Pinky is working on mig23!
- A-10 model by BMS? isn’t it Sundevil’s model?
- Mig-19 ? i think Pumpyhead’s modell is very good - just need some cool air inlet/vent fairings.
- B-1… ya…so does B-52. say, for “more realistic” korea-centered DB…you need some PRC models.
- for ground vehicles…feel free to check my lod zip… hope it be of some use.
-
Took the pay raise after all eh Dave…
Good stuff buddy.

I have identified shared parents not shared CT’s. These are what have been there for a long time, I didn’t create the sharing myself, just documenting what is there.

Hey everybody…
Dave just to be sure… you really meant 30.000 triangles not polygons? Because we’ve been talking about polygons all the time 30.000 triangles would be 15.000 polygons!
Oh and i’ll start a WIP thread ASAP! Now i got some things sorted out at work there’s some spare time again
I’ll keep ya posted!
-
30.000 triangles would be 15.000 polygons!
Not unless the polygons have 7 or 8 sides.
Looking forward to the Mig progress.
-
After a period of inactivity, it would be useful if new devs could easily “grab the baton”.
Perhaps we should have a file upload area so those working on the models have permissions to checkout files and check them back in again?

Yes I do mean triangles. Polygons can have many sides and vertices and as such make it difficult to define a useful value.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polygon
My Tornado was around 15k triangles so 30k should deliver something very nice.

What are the polycount limits for lower-level LODs?
Cheers,
-
Usually every LOD should cut the polycount by half…round about!
Thanks for pointing that out again Dave!
-
Again, for information, here are the data for the Mirage 2000-D LODs
LOD0 : 30413 triangles :
- 27579 x ptype 9 –> use as many ptype 9 triangles as possible
- 16 x ptype 13
- 160 x ptype 20
- 574 x ptype 21
- 2084 x ptype 25
LOD 1 drops to around 6000 tris at 100ft
LOD 2 : 700 tris at 500ft and you hardly notice it
LOD 3 : 70 tris at 2000ft
LOD 4 : a single pixelIf you stick to that, there shouldn’t be any problem and LOD levels will be unnoticed.

Wavey: is there anyway you can prepare a guide for the BMS wiki (bmswiki.com) on how to import models into the game? It would greatly speed up things.
I would be more inclined to help contribute models to BMS if I knew how to see them and test them in game.

Ok, i have started with the Mig-19, at this time i have done the fuselage. As soon i have it more complete i will open a new thread and upload some Renders
Salu2!!

What about the Red Heavys?
Tu-95, Tu-16, Tu-22, Il-74/76/78, etc…
They could need an update too, no?
