Airbrake indicator sound mod

Wizard,
Are you saying that when the AB is on IRL, there’s no difference in the noise heard or sensation felt by the pilot? That’s hard to imagine. I’ll defer to someone who actually knows the answer to this. Maybe you do. I don’t pretend to. If there is a difference, I’d like to incorporate that into my sounds. It would help with my situational awareness…not to mention my fuel state.

One of the BMS guys will likely have a better answer.
My understanding:
Audio clues? No. You’re wearing VERY good hearing protection to focus the VMS/radio sounds into your ears and not the wind/engine. Can the pilot hear it at all? Perhaps.
Sensory clues? Sure. I well-imagine the pilot can feel the added thrust.I’m heading to bed now, but if you do a search in the tech support forum (I think) about AAA, or a user named SoBad, there was a long thread about audio feedback the pilot receives while flying from outside events. Basically the BMS guys have created a very good soundstage, and in fact, BOOSTED some sounds because players need feedback of some sorts that the real pilot would get from OTHER senses, but PC users cannot.

The sounds were already made by consulting people who know the answers (in addition of course to extensive study of both headset and cockpit sound recordings). What we have as a base and assuming recommended sound settings is verified as realistic, at least in-cockpit sounds. And as Wizard says, some sounds were actually slightly boosted. If you want even more feedback or more exciting sounds that’s your choice, but if you perceive something as unrealistic IMO you shouldn’t, unless you have either flown in the real thing or had a real pilot tell you it’s not right.

I do confirm on M2000 (sorry!), AftB makes no real sound differences (it is why there are lights to confirm that AftB are on!) … the only thing you feel is the increased thrust… What you hear in BMS is what you can hear (or “feel”) IRL…
And inside a Mirage2000, MirageF1, Jaguar or Alpha Jet cockpits, we “do not” really hear the engine; but we “mainly” hear the airflow from air conditioning.
… According to an F-16 driver, it’s the same on F-16.
Yes we can hear a bit of the engine but the main noise is coming from the cabin pressurization, air conditioning system.
These are my favourite videos to illustrate this:
- WITH helmet AND earplug:
- WITH helmet NO earplug:
- WITHOUT helmet, NO earplug:
F-16
(This example is not really good because microphone is saturated… we could believe that we are hearing engine rumble!… but it is “mainly” aircond and external air flow)Alpha Jet

Well there are differences… Afterburner sound inside cockpit at low speeds or take off roll covers everything else. That is for both the viper and the mirage.
-
Who are using a Cougar here? (no need of this beep sound if you set your AB switch like in real F-16)
Same with my X52Pr0 Profile.
-
@Raptor: Are you saying that in BMS, AftB sound inside ckpt is not accurate ?

Yep of course, it is why I said “AftB makes no real sound differences” … but not what the most of simmer believes: it is not like if you were standing outside the aircraft.
Many guys think that when aftB is on, there is a very loud rumble in the ckpt …

Much needed IMO and very useful. Thank you.

You know Contour HD?
When i’ll find some time i’ll try to prepare something.

Hi all,
Now these are real! LoL!!!
Watch these video’s:-
These sorts of things would be nice to add to Sim, just for general fun the sound and effect even in a dogfight low flying!
Pilots can pull-off the most astonishing things, you would be surprised, I have an air show video somewhere of an F16 J-Dive and low Cobra attempt!
Then he dashed back into a sonic boom, this was nearly 15 years ago! I just can’t find the footage; if I find it I will upload it!
Anyway!
Have fun with my post!!! LoL

Thanks, everyone, for the very helpful feedback. I certainly can understand that the sound of the AB may be negligible due to earphones (not to mention OSHA rules). However, I’m also interested in the vibration felt by the pilot since I have two of these guys attached to my seat. I can feel the rumble of the runway and the engine. I should think the AB vibration would be more intense than that of the regular engine. That’s what I’m interested in.

Hmm, I’ve been editing the volumes of the modem.ogg and the brakwind.ogg. But it seems that whatever I do, it screws up the nice balance the BMS guys figured out for us. Having a louder brakwind does increase awareness of the airbrake, but it kinda sounds unnatural, compared to the original volumes. Also lowering the modem sound even a bit makes it inaudible… not that I need to be reminded all the time, but it could just as well be off.
I use the ‘with earplugs’ defaults, and have to say I get enough feedback. Only the airco sound becomes a bit annoying in the long run.(a long rong being 8 hours of flying for me )

Great! Thkx!
(Just a small precision, the “philosophy” at BMS is to reproduce what pilot actually hearing (with helmet)… not “simply” a ckpt sound capture… but of course, your vid will be precious!)
-
I have full faith on them and whatever they are working.

You know you can tune that down via your audio 2 Intercom switch from Darth Vader volume to very silent?

You know you can tune that down via your audio 2 Intercom switch from Darth Vader volume to very silent?
take care … it’s a sort of master headset volume … it will also dim the BETTY, ALARM, COMM’s, RWR etc …
More information about Intercom knob:
and
INTERCOM Knob The INTERCOM knob has a cw arrow pointing to
INC. Rotating the knob increases the volume of the
signals available to the intercom set.The intercom provides the following functions:
- Monitoring and volume control of voice communication between pilot and ground crew or between pilot and tanker boom operator, monitoring and volume control of AIM9 missile tone, TWS composite audio tone, and TWS missile launch tone.
- Monitoring of systems individually volume controlled from the audio control panels.
- Monitoring of fixed volume warning tones (LG and low speed warning tone, TWS missile launch tone, and IFF mode 4 audio monitor) and voice messages.

^Then it’s a cool suicide option to tune it down.:)

ZELEGEND, where is the original download link? Is it missing from the original post? Thanks
