Maverick Issue

Also, the TGP method certainly helps as Ironman states; however, I Don’t like to be a slave to it; what if your TGP malfunctions or is not loaded onto the jet or your squadron just doesn’t have any. Old school baby.

To use your own words if you find the TGP Hand off process “a lottery” and “cumbersome” you just aint doin it right !!!
So what’s the right way?

BMS\Docs\Checklists & Cockpit Diagrams\F-16 Checklists*Weapons Checklists.pdf* → start from pp. 5
The checklist gives you all the necessary steps. It just works if you follow it. Please note that the Maverick cannot get the handoff outside 15 NM (someone please correct me if I remember wrong). Note also that AGM-65A’s or -B’s cannot be boresighted.

Cool, thanks!

it’s not hard, it’s just involved…and then it’s simple as pie.

And you can’t from older blocks, like 32 and under.

Jonku - "Please note that the Maverick cannot get the handoff outside 15 NM " I would agree with that - its part of my hand off routine - wait until the DLZ bracket appears in the WPN MFD before handing off that way I don’t - very very rarely - get a failed hand off.
I would expect a longer hand off range for the “G” mav but I don’t think its coded in 4.33 U5

I am having the same issue as most people. Attempting to use Mavs without TGP is a lottery.
The only issue I am having with Mavs without using a TGP is the cursor jump on slew from the OP and what many others have mentioned. Once you get past the slew and have a locked target, in the keyhole, and cursor not flashing before fire it works fine. Just got done with a mission today only using FCR and weapon video page and went 6/6 on hits.
I find the TGP hand-off process to be really cumbersome so it would be great if FCR/WPN alone could be used reliably.
I’ve tried multiple times messing around with the TGP/boresighting process and I can never get consistent behavior from the aircraft. I just gave up on that and use FCR/WPN alone and as stated above the cursor jump is the only issue there.

im related by marriage to a belgian f-16 pilot. He showed me how it was practiced on the range fast and dirty, in a degraded sensor environment, but that training showed me how to be hands on with the antenna at all times. You use the td cursor from the tgp to clear up a picture of contacts or you use visual references in HUD to bore sight the TD cursor over the contacts in a rough estimation and ground stabilize.
Then you DMS down to get to the WPN page, uncage both active positions using uncage and NWS to toggle the seeker heads. now you have your roll out target cue for the ground stabilized position from the TGP, as well as the cursor as VID refrences in your HUD ( no looking down to slew) and NOW you have two circles in your HUD showing the pre launch position of the uncaged seeker heads, which you can quickly move to the td cursor diamond, with your head up.
As far as boresighting the TGP goes, its troublesome on the ground…if you follow the gospel here, it will seem useless and too much trouble.
Wherever you fly out of, once you do your familiarizations you find a big building or a ship, just fly 5000 under the clouds, put it in autopilot attitude hold and lock the tgp on the building or the ship or the airfield, then dms down, repeat the process I described using the agm65 seeker cues and the td cursor in the hud. boresight. you’re done.
Do not depend on seeker or optic technology- if the flight conditions for the target area or the target are exclusionary, use the glove that fits the job. nose down into infested sam country to rail off a few agm65s or carpet bomb the entire area from 40k and mach1?

Has the original issue (cursor slew jump) been fixed in 4.34?

well that didn’t “sound” very well… Living the " //\TOP-GUN//\ " dream…
Joking m8… I understood what you meant but sorry I couldn’t resist for the second time I saw it…

Yes
Hooray! :woohoo:
Need to check it out.

We introduced a proper maverick seekerhead slew, it should never jump now.

It works like a charm.
