4.34 - F/A-18 missing needles in all analog gauges
-
Really excited about BMS 4.34. Performed a fresh install after removal of 4.33.
The analog gauges seem to miss the needle texture in the F/A-18 cockpit. All I get is a semitransparent bar of green zeros where the needle should be. If somebody knows how to quickly fix this (e.g. by having the missing texture), could they please send it.
EDIT: The ILS needles are completely missing in the Standby Attitude Indicator, there is not even the green faint glitchy needle outline. Despite ILS needles centered on the HUD, the attitude indicator is completely empty. This already worked in 4.33
EDIT2: The centerline needle on the compass (right hand side) is also missing
This problem I ran into on all different graphics settings and resolutions.
Reproduce: start the TE Carrier Take off mission and look at the analog gauges in the 3d cockpit -

Can anyone confirm, or is this just on my setup?

Turn the lights on and see if they are there.
This is an old bug …. there were similar (maybe not identical) issues in some 4.33 versions.
-
Thanks for your helpful reply. I can confirm that this bug hasn’t been fixed yet. It is clear that a texture, material assignment or something like this is missing in the cockpit, so you see the bare needle “volume” once it is illuminated.

Strange; there are videos - even recent ones - where people do not have that problem. I wonder if it is a Nvidia problem or a problem of the driver settings.
Can somebody share if they get steam gauge needles in BMS 4.34 in the F-18 cockpit correctly?

Yeah, I think it showed up in early versions of 4.33, then was fixed (or mostly fixed) in later versions.
Looks/sounds like it’s back in 4.34. However, I cannot confirm that for you directly …. I don’t have 4.34 installed.

The strange thing is:
I reinstalled 4.33 U5 in parallel – and the needles show!.
But for the guy in the video in post #3, he has the same problem with his 4.33 version that I have NOW with 4.34 and do not have with either 4.33 U1 or U5. This suggests that it does have to do with the graphics settings somehow?

The guy in the video in post #3 is me and that video is more than 3 years old. Probably 4.33, update 1.
Here’s a bug post AFTER they fixed the steam gauges: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?28634-F-A-18C-Lighting-Bug This is update 2, about 3 months after the video.
What I’m saying is …. it was broke a long time ago. Then, it got fixed (or partly fixed). Now it seems broke again in 4.34.
I’m pretty sure it’s related to the skins and/or model.

Confirmed. It is a texture issue.
Maybe because the F-18 is using some F-16 cockpit part ant that one has been updated. This is one of the reason I think making multiple flyable a/c in BMS is not a necessarily good idea => painful + bug generator.

Unfortunately f18 development is kinda stopped you all can understand why.
AFM and dedicated flcs has been improve greatly though
-
Also, it’s an F16 study sim. DCS has a nice 18 study sim if you’re into that

@Stalker1stVFW: I am not quite sure what your point is since it is strange to assume I needed to be told the origins of this game (I bought the original game in 1998 ). Coming from 4.33, BMS has improved and increased their support of naval operations and their manual states that the F/A-18D is the “backbone” of these naval operations. Do you think bug-reporting for the F/A-18 is not wanted? If so maybe that opinion is not what drives their developments, since I seem to have had success reporting wrong HSI course deviation needle logic two years ago and and it is fixed now in 4.34.
Unlike DCS:
- BMS 4.34 is a free sim (to owners of F4) of the F/A-18
- has a dynamic campaign engine which makes single player worthwhile
- the F/A-18 has an air-to-ground mapping radar (ED might not ever add this to their DCS F18 )
- a much more varied range of weaponry
- tons of other reasons.
So, I am not going to take you up on your suggestion and will continue to hope BMS will improve the F/A-18 even further.
-
Continu to repport. It is always good.
But I think that F-18 should be its “own” team of developement and need special care. First would be to check what is this needle issue, if it is sharing some dds with F-16 and if answer is yes, separate them nand give him its own cockpit textues.
I will try to take a look if I can do something.

@Dee-Jay: Much appreciated. I am very sure others feel the same about the F/A-18.

I also hope that this problem will be fixed in future. I know that Falcon BMS is a F-16 sim at first, but it’s really nice
to have some other flyable birds too. The new flyable aircraft like the F/A-18 and the AV-8B in 4.33 was the main reason I
decided to built my homepit mostly for Falcon BMS.All my hardware is based to be fully compatible with BMS (Pokeys etc.) which is almost useless with DCS. So the DCS F/A-18
(which I also own just as the DCS F-14 and the AV-8B) is no real option if your pit is built to work essentially with BMS.I had the hope that some more other flyable aircraft will be implemented in BMS in the future, so that people who don’t want to fly the F-16 only, have fun with BMS too. I never expected BMS to be a hardcore realistic simulation for other type of aircraft as the F-16, but for me and I think some other people too, the realism of those aircraft was really
good enough.I have a “universal” homepit which is designed to fly all kind of fighter jets like F-14, F-15, F-16, F/A-18, AV-8B etc. and even attack helicopters. For the jets I go with Falcon BMS and for the helicopters I use EECH Allmods.
I had the hope that with 4.34 the implementation of some other flyable aircraft, which started with 4.33, goes further.
And as far as I could see in the forum, we will soon have a good flyable F-14D and some other projects. So why should the F/A-18 be abandoned? -

+1
Is it possible to ‘extract’ F/A-18C/D code from BMS core code?
