Flameout @ 600lb

JFS uses fuel?
JFS receives fuel at all times regardless of the MASTER fuel switch position.
-
actually, the JFS does not receive fuel when the tanks are empty.
-
But the tanks aren’t empty when there’s fuel in them.
-
At 600lbs you can air restart no problem I think
No radio ? Why did the EPU not start ?
By the time I was flame out I was only a few miles out and less then a 1000ft offset, my alt at around 2000ft. I didn’t think I would have made the overhead break. So I decided.
I tried the radio to call emergency & got no options, no idea. I had to quickly bank left and line up, get gear down, bleed more speed as I spotted the A-10.
I was at the lazy end of a few flights, lost my wingman twice to flack. I just wanted a drink. A double even. :drink:

If you have time , just switch tower and call for emergency that would make it

Didn’t have the time and landed with a tail wind. hence dogging the A-10 coming head on.
I should have already been on with the tower, I was lazy & hungry. No packed lunch.
How long does it take for the EPU to kick in? 10sec?

Welcome to the 4.34 Low fuel negative-G flameout club
It works the other way as well. I ran the tanks completely empty as a test, was watching the bingo DED page. The tanks ran dry at -800 lbs. 800 below zero -
Sorry Leech, couldn’t help myself… It’s such imperative language - the JFS receives fuel at all times… And yet I can’t fault you, as it’s not your wording…
It’s somewhat concerning if the totaliser in BMS can’t distinguish between 600lbs and -800lbs…

Man for some reason I had it in my head that JFS was compressed air -> rotating main jet. I just read up on what it is and feel stupid about that assumption.
-
Don’t be. For whatever reason, it’s a common assumption.
There is compressed gas in the system, in the accumulators. They just provide the pressure to start the JFS, of course - which in turn starts the engine, when it’s declutched from the accessory drive gearbox.
They also provide working pressure to the hydraulic systems.
-
Yep. I made a moderate turn into final w/ 900lbs and flamed out.
