LODEditor Replacement
-
I believe he left after getting banned. Not the first person in this thread to have taken a leave of absence under those circumstances, nor the second.
… nor the third. I am also close to the edge of the cliff. Maybe few more “points of life” but no real exceptions. And if it happens (first of all, I will certainly have deserved it), it doesn’t mean that I will leave the community and suppress all what I’ve done on about BMS.
-
Moresil, (while quite often easy on scratchy criticisms against BMS team work plan) seems to have abandoned his project … probably because some criticisms he received from one of our Dev on another subject. (I let you imagine if we had the same reaction and did the same anytime somebody came here to slap us! ).
What annoys me “the most” is that he received some helps from some BMS coders which was (eventually … it seems) a loss of time and efforts. I think that results will be nothing, zero, nada, void. One more unsuccessful attempt to lead something to its end.
Well … it is his decision not to share it (finish it?) and has suppressed some of his pasts messages. No idea if he will release it to some other 3rd party Devs (FO?) internally. (?)
Nothing more we can do about it. Maybe you can contact him in his PM box (if he has not closed it to public?).
Just remember there are always two side of a story
It’s important the community knows about these 2 sidesHe was pissed sure enough, but someone pissed him
If that was avoided the project may have been concludedresponsibilities are quite shared on this one Dj …
-
Well the i believe was like. Please don’t have all this effort go in vain to mortesil, and not criticising the ban initiative or the action taken.
Mortesil even erased his git hub commits.
I was looking for some reference if i could find some valuable info but…As said the hard and manly thing to do is continue and prove your intentions and devotion regardless of personal thoughts and likes.
Did anyone by any chance downloaded the stuff from his repo?

Hum … If it was because of me (maybe it was after all, I would have no problem to assume it.
You know colleague, in my humble opinion, one can’t be “scratchy” (to be polite) or giving his “honest” point of view about BMS team, and expect caresses afterward from the other side or expect from others not to be also “honest” about other subjects.
I’ve felt offended, but much less for myself than for my other team mates. Has he ever posted “excuses” … I do not think so.Either one have the shoulders to “open it loud” and be prepared for a hit back … or not.
From my POV, there are no “responsibilities” here. Otherwise “you” (and I) would be several ppl here to be also responsible of other dismiss (or depart) of some other valuable guys. It is only a matter of personal choices and assuming his words.
I have nothing against Mortesil but against his attitude toward us (we are not his bitches). I would have hardly imagined him in the team after reading his post on FO about our incompetence on 4.33 development. This is was of course why we (at least Jp an I) have voted “no” for getting him in the team.I won’t personally drop my pants because he was about to deliver an alternative to Lod Editor. As far I as know, he didn’t made it for me, nor for Jp, nor for BMS team, but (I thought) for him and the community. Like we do on BMS team side.
Please forgive me, but throwing in the bin what he has done, like this, was (to me) puerile. It is a shame. But life goes one.
-
Dj no need to go to details. Nor no-one asks to forgive mortesil and ask him to come back etc.
We r grown ups and we take responsibility of our saying and actions.
I was banned from ehaf and from bms in my immature ignorance years. That didn’t mean i should give up and call it quits.
I came back and tried my best providing back.
Some will think yea typical Arty and his ego showing off. Think whatever you want.
The dept is that we enjoy what bms and community provides and is our duty as individuals and members of this community to give back once we have the means and time to do so.
What we say and what we do is just few guys , a small fraction of the team - community, the bigger cause is an institution above the few, and regardless the bitter and ego and opinion we must put those aside and keep walking for the community. After all BMS team emerged and formed from the community.
The no vote… i dont think mortesils aim was to get in to the team.
He saw the need, understood the importance and took the initiative to fulfill a task - project judging by his expertise that he can cope with it.I believe thinking of it with cold blood and clear mind will put water on both sides wine or at least one side that took the initiative voluntarily and fulfil the promise assuming that real life conditions permit.

I don’t think either. But some of us discussed about “should we” invite him. It could have been a good idea (?) … maybe he is a very nice guy (talented he seemed to be). Maybe he would have been another “character” (with a strong personality which doesn’t necessarily mean a big ego) like the one already present in the team … But hard to welcome someone after reading what he wrote. He just confirmed that in would have been a bad idea to do so. When someone form the team leave the party (whatever the reason), he does not sabotage what he did. Case closed.
Again… Live goes on.

Hi guys,
LE opens with 4.34 but commands does not work. Also, I still get the error " Hdr Array Overrrun 4" at the beginning. Is this normal?
-
Yes.
Don’t use le use 3ddbuilder

The community has the right to know that this guys pissed in our pants on other forums far before the event for why he has been banned - i will provided the link once again.
This guy accused me of beeing a CANCER to the community - thank you very much - i’ve done more in 20 years for falcon that he will ever do in his entire life ! actually i am sure that i am doing more in 1 month that he will ever do in his entire life
The guy claimed we at BMS were a bunch of incompetant arrogant morons and that he could do far better than us on the code. I dont think that 4.34 release is confirming our incompetence on the matter
Ok where is his tool for lodeditor replacement ? project launched 2 years ago ? where is the result ? nowhere !
and by the way, we wont need this tool at all !!
So please , dont mislead the community here about the event , i dont feel beeing the bad guy here !

Its always unfortunate to see two people you admire fail to get along.
Perhaps its just my perspective, but I dont feel like reopening old wounds is going to make anyone happy. Cant we move on to better things?

Do you have converted your .xml DB into-legacy DB?
Have you extracted you 3DDB then rebuild it in “old” mode (only possible if 3DDBis <2Gb) … If your 3DDB is >2Gb, you can only use LodEditor to work on individual LOD (into Parent id), not on the global one. -

But clearly I did something wrong. There was an another thread about this. I cannot give you the link at the moment but I did the steps in that thread. Anyway, I will try again.

You also need to go into the BMS.cfg file in your User/Config folder and change the line g_bSaveLegacyDB from 0 to 1. Then you need to either Launch the BMS Editor or Launch BMS so the XML is changed to BIN.
THEN you can open the DB with Lod Editor!!!

So just to be sure, if I follow this approach I can then use the tool called Loadeditor to add a new aircraft model and its textures ?. Some one shared with me lod files and skin texture files of JF-17 and I want to be able to load it into 4.34. I expanded the db using the 3d tools that came with 4.34 but was not sure on next step on rebuilding and using LE as the manual just gives the commands and does not guide on how to add an aircraft model.
Thanks in advance -
Yes you can.
then export the parent and lods and do the rebuild.

It would have been declined. Just as it was declined when I was approached by someone quite some time ago concerning my interest or the possibility of it. My work was removed because I was told in no uncertain terms it wasn’t needed. Which is reiterated below by Mav. He knows best right? So no point leaving it all lying about. My other comments were all removed specifically to avoid instances like this… 3 year old posts drug up from the grave and placed in a post out of context by someone trying to prove a point. If someone reads that entire thread, and knows the backstory about why the thread existed to begin with, my comments are much less “scratchy”

And I stand by my comments. Every one of them. This is exactly why the comment was made to begin with. Because you are all about YOU. What YOU have done. All the things YOU know better than everyone. What YOU need… nevermind what the rest of the community needs. Unfortunately what YOU do is treat community members like crap and fill the forums with negativity. YOU got personal and offensive and I got banned for returning the attack. That’s the part you conveniently left out of your Reader’s Digest version. No skin off my back though, you’re just a name on the screen to me
The project was completed as far as it could be without knowing exactly how the new DB structures and models were going to turn out. As you stated several times, it apparently isn’t needed (Which is probably why there hasn’t been a single thread asking how to modify the DB in .34 right?). Why put work into something nobody wants? It did everything I wanted it to do, and if I ever get the urge to modify it the rest of the way for .34 it will continue to do exactly what I designed it for.
Not that it matters, because I’m sure this post will probably get deleted when I get banned again shortly, but just to clarify I am in no way associated with FO, trying to reach me through their forums will not work because I haven’t logged in to them in a years. Unfortunately this is likely to land me a slightly more permanent “break” from the forums, so I doubt anyone will be able to contact me if they wanted to… but again, as Mav has stated, there is no need to anyway because I have nothing to offer.
-
Not finishing your work when you have put so much time and effort into it seems a real shame when there clearly are a lot of people in the wider community who would welcome it and benefit from it. The recipient of your ire may indeed not need it so abandoning the project will not affect him, but your application could be extremely helpful for the majority who might not have the skills/knowledge/patience to work with the outdated tools that are the alternative.
If everyone chose to withhold release every time there was a falling out Falcon would have died a long time ago. If we’re here because we want to keep Falcon 4 alive hopefully these minor annoyances wont make us lose sight of the bigger picture.
-
What YOU need… nevermind what the rest of the community needs. Unfortunately what YOU do is treat community members like crap and fill the forums with negativity.
You have clearly abolutly no idea of what you are talking about.
Those statements are ridiculous, i think many people could testify how much help i brought to them , how much i have supported community ideas inuto the BMS development, and how much thousands of hours i have spent to implement community ideas that I didnt care about.
I dont know if you are proud of you , but considering i lost my stepmum from cancer 1 month before your words and having my wife crying every night because of this disease , believe me it hurted me badly.
You are clearly one of the reason i decided to stop developing , investing 20 years of my life to be treated like shit by people like you.
again, you can be proud of yourself , well done monsieur , your mission is accomplished , i wont pollute BMS code with my cancer hands anymore.
-
I can indeed testify. And I am young in the team compared to him (I joined the team in 2010).
In some ways, even if it was a bit harmful for the mental sanity, I will miss our nights, after an entire day of RL work, spending time with you on TS until two - tree o’clock in the morning with only 4 -5 hours of sleep, in a incredible fast process of development, almost in real time (if not literally in real time) … working, implementing, and debugging so many things … AI time management, weather, wing flex, radar & SAMs, taxi branches … etc … etc … etc … you absence will (I have unfortunately no doubt about it) put a serious brake to many aspects of the sim. Some could be still enhanced, I have no idea who will take care of it.But I hope that you will still be there … at least to guide BB and I and other friends on some things we still do not fully master … (I am just in the process of adding the new Taxi/Hold data on the Dev branch and even if Homer already knows how to proceed, it is so much faster and easy to be simply with you on Dev TS) …
Jp … I will never be able to give you back all what you have offered me. All the smiles on my face when testing one of your new stuff … priceless.
To me, the “cancer of BMS” is the way we are approaching this forum. Many of the other Devs/coders do not participate (or much less). Maybe it is their secret to stay cool and motivated. In an 24H day, one can’t actively participate tho the community’s life and the same time working like you do without loosing brain cells and still be kind with the some of the ppl who are criticizing while they have literally offer nothing yet to the community. We have our parts of responsibilities … sometimes we are guilty of rudeness. But it is not possible to spend more time trying to explain everything in an extensive way and kind way.
Mortesil, I am sorry about the fact that our communication didn’t matched, and sorry that our words had hurt you. But yours hurt us, and apparently at the worse moment. You choose to stop. Your decision. Now it our turns to choose if we want to continue investing that amount of time and efforts.
Jp, going easier on dev is certainly wise. I don’t think it is becasue of Mortesil, IMO it was just the “trigger”. We have some other examples where families suffered from that passion. Better stop before it is too late. I know that BMS is part of your life and I have a small idea how many hours of your life you’ve offered to it. But one have to keep in mind that, after all … it is “just” a sim … a “video game”. (but what a damn tough video game! )
Kind regards to all of you.
-
IMHO y’all should sit back and take a deep breathe……IN REAL LIFE!!!
Then come back to “IT”…
@Mav…sorry for your loss…but, time will heal it.
@Deej…3rd paragraph is spot on, But it has happened continually on most Forums throughout the past two decades…Sigh!
@Mortesil, In my time on “Teams” many thing’s I developed and presented were scoffed at or dismissed by the “Powers that Be” on those Teams. Discouraging? Yes. Getting me kicked from the table? Yes.
Did I stop developing my ideas…NO!!! Kept going and provided the communities with what I had. Whether it was code “HACK’s” …LOL! or just tip’s or trick’s in the DB, I put them out there. Like my friend ED_1 stated to me a Loooong time ago “Not everyone is going to like what you just did” or something like that…LOL! Doesn’t matter really, as long as it is out there.Kind Regard’s,
demer
