Is everything OK with new DATALINK refresh intervals?
-
Hello everybody,
I have really a big problem with the new DATALINK position update intervals as an AA guy
I never managed to use it as effective as before.
At the end I gave up trying to use it in engagements.
Most of the time it is imposible even to locate flight members’ positions at a glance.
So is it something more realistic or do I do something wrong?
Thanks,
TUAF-Ripper -
You defenitively are doing something wrong.
You are relying too much on IDM, you should learn to build your SA without it. And you should adapt instead of giving up, that is of course your first mistake, giving up.

Apparently it is more realistic.
Datalink is updated even if we use VHF/UHF radios though, which apparently shouldn’t be the case, so, it should even be “worse” -
Ripper, may I suggest you check out the 4.34 Comm/nav manual, p.50. I just RTFM’d and actually saw two things I didn’t know. First, AA IDM(called Intraflight on the DED) is UHF, not the VHF I thought it was! Also, AG is VHF, and that is usually used for wingman(again, per the Manual). The second fact is that the AA IDM only works with a/c on the tactical net(Button 6). That second fact explains why when taking off my AI Wingie doesn’t show up until later. That raises the question of when my AI goes to Button 6? I’ve read in the Naval Ops manual you call “Inbound Mother” at 25 miles. So, does the AI go on/off approach/departure at 25 miles, waypoint 2, or what? I’ll observe when my AI shows up when I fly later today.
BTW, Group,is there a way to move your AI wingie to the tac.net., a “push button 6” type call?
But Ripper, you’re right, IDM is different in 4.34, even when it’s set to continuous. That’s yet another reason why I like Voice Attack. If my SA “slips”, I can go a quick “2,say posit” without having to do the Ol’ 4 w’s + 5 -
AI in your package is always on UHF 6, I think, except when you refuel. I’m not sure DL-wise in that case.
People tend to leave CONT for DMD, as far as I can observe, especially when it comes to packages with more than a couple pilots. -

.Even around the Boat or airfield? That confuses me, considering I do hear the AI calling inbound on the Aprroach freq
-
Not voice comms, they switch over. AI DL only operates on the tactical package frequency even though they do speak on other channels for voice.

There are several things that used to work auto-magically in previous versions that now require more realistic setup and usage. They will soon become second nature once you understand what has changed. When flying multiplayer comms discipline is even more important now; you wont get a datalink update if some muppet is spamming the UHF radio at that moment

It is realistic.

Aaah now that’s weird. I read multiple reports of people saying it had no influence.

To be 100% clear : Talking on the radio has no influence on IDM in BMS, at the moment.

True… at this moment.
And all that new since 4.34 is realistic… it’s time to go back and study well, folks.
With best regards.
