Sorry for the dumb question but I’m just starting to figure out how to manage db on 4.34: if I just want to add a livery to an existing model (not replace), do I still need to do it with LE or 3DDB can do this too?

Define “want to add a livery” ? … do you mean adding a skin set?
-
Yes, add a skin set. I knew how to do it on 4.33 and now I’m having the same error described here so I want to understand if I need to work on both 3DDB and LE.
(Anyway 3DDB doesn’t start: when I double-click it I see just a window open and suddenly close. Same launching as admin)

That’s not how 3DDB works!! You need to Shift+Right click on a folder that 3DDB’s EXE and it’s DLL file are in and your DB(which is the objects folder), and “open command window here”.
Read the documentation in your \Falcon BMS 4.34\Tools\3DDBBuilder folder for instructions on how to use it and what it can do!!!;)

Yes, last sentence is a joke that summarize the mistake I made.

Confirmed … LE is works fine here on a 4.34 pure stock install after due conversions:
- Using legacy converted binary DB (set g_bSaveLegacyDb 1) then launch at least once the game or Editor get the DB converted. Close the game and or BMS Editor.
- Extracted 3DDB from “New” format (3ddb_builder.exe /extract)
- Rebuild 3DDB into “Old” format. (3ddb_builder.exe /build**_old**)
…
Launch LE … pointing to :\Falcon BMS 4.34\Data\TerrData\Objects_KoreaObj.HDR_
LE is working fine.
Following correctly the entire 3DDB extraction/build procedure is mandatory … when you are rebuilding 3DDB! Remember this:
…
EDIT:
Before rebuild, maybe you should remove (saving them elsewhere then suppress from Object folder) the flowing files in case 3DDBbuid.exe can’t overwrite the new files over the old one (?)
KoreaObj.HDR
KoreaObj.LOD
KoreaObj.TEXThey will be recreated during build process.
Hi Dee-Jay
I followed step by step this guide but LE doesn’t work. I have this message when i start the program:
Any suggestion? The size of my KoreaObj.LOD is 1.796.054 kb and is a stock KTO database.
Thx in advance

Any suggestion?
Did you change the variable g_bSaveLegacyDB, set it to 1, in your Falcon BMS.cfg file. You also have to either start the game or run the Editor for it to take effect!

No other sugestion. I would need to repro the issue on my side then troubleshoot it …
But I am not at home and don’t have any my computer with me.

Hi,
I follow the 3ddb instructions, and it seem that it extracted the folders correctly, but I can’t find them anywhere.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance -
Should be in “\Data\TerrData\Objects\Parents”
-
Thanks for the quick answer, but no joy!! No folders created. Tried several times without any error msgs from 3ddb!!

They will be extracted to the same directory as which you copy the two files to in the first instance. One called Parents and one called LODs, Parents will be full of numbered subdirectories.

Thanks Malc,
But that directory only has the original files and folders. The builder doesn’t create any folders. -

1. Copy the 3ddb_builder.exe and FreeImage.dll to your …/Data/Terrdata/Objects directory.
2. While in same directory, make sure no files or folders selected, hold Shift and Right-Click then select “Open Command Prompt here” or “Open PowerShell window here” (Win version dependent)
3. Enter the command line
- in Powershell - “.\3ddb_builder.exe /extract”
or
- in Command Prompt - “3ddb_builder.exe /extract”
4. Wait a while, look for “Writing…” messages:
until completion:
5: Job done, you should have new folders called “LODs” and “Parents”:
6. “Parents” dir will look like this:
Ignore the fact I am working 4.35 here, process is exactly the same for 4.34 -
Ok Malc,
1,2 and 3 checked and done!!
“Writing” messeges NIL!!
Just getting again the command prompt.
Can’t figure it why! -
@Malc,
The prompt comes up automatically…that’s why I suppose it was extracting correctly:( -
One last question - how long are you letting things run before deciding it is not working? Sounds like a silly question, but recently I have instances where it looks like it has stalled but if I leave it for a number of seconds (30+) all of a sudden it starts then is done. Frustrating, but it is happening nonetheless. Maybe worth leaving it to sit for a minute or so before cancelling?
