Starry sky mod ?
-
Well polaris does not exist where it should if at all, the hemispheres counter rotate each other, but no polaris. The sun and moon also move across the sky much more smoothly than do the stars. I think it just has become a random mess since the calendar days of the year have been removed from the code. The current BMS code would be very useful to figure out what is going on, since I am thinking the easiest way to do this would be to redo the astronomy from scratch, building on whatever the sun and moon are doing in the skybox and seeing how the day/night textures change currently, because it is different from the original code. But that is probably limited to the official Devs.
I have tried converting star coordinates to floats and then hex, but hasn’t worked. The first hex numbers correlated with the 41/c2 repeats I talked about before, but reversing the hex did not display any stars. If the hex ends with anything other than those repeats, BMS hangs after clicking launch. I’ll keep trying things.

And - while you’re all working so hard, why not add the FF4.0 Manual to the FF5.5 Manual you just downloaded.
Hell - kick back and relax with the infamous Pete Bonanni interview or enjoy one of the many other legendary features of the FF4.0 Manual…

1- DB was only locked after a certain version… ie. 5.5x (have to check which exactly) 5.0 should be unlocked campaign wise.
2- What is locked can be unlocked… Some of us ex FF guys have the tools to reverse it.1. 5.51……5.0 good to go, they can always grab Molni’s which was based on “you know who’s” work in 5.3
2. Please don’t go there M8…Steve will sue you…ROTFLMAO!!!Mother Dave

The screen I used for FF testing has the Window’s BSOD message burned into the display…

Hi,
During night flights I have noted that stars of various magnitudes appears in the sky.
But as fan of astronomy, I quickly noted that I recognized no constellations, not even the Big Dipper…However I see that stars are not simple dots placed randomly here and there; they follow the airplane and their pattern seems to remain from one session to another (to confirm with the programmer).
Comparing RL (Stelarium) and BMS using star update …
Same place (N37°35’ E132°01’), same date (14/11/2019), same time (10H00z) …
North
East

Very cool! So do we get to enjoy the correct moon phases (and planets) in BMS too, now?
Cheers, Uwe

moon phases, not yet unfortunatly… the code already correctly compute the moon phases, but there is a rendering issue
.but it’s on the to do list

Masterpiece

The whole work has been done by VALKY and DESMODUKE
you can thank them

We all thank all of you.

Just checked during a test ride, the sun and the full moon are still visible in the sky at the same time and very close together, so it looks like the realistic sky map is only applicable for the night sky for now.
Maybe something for U2… it would be great to have Venus visible during dawn or dusk, the phases of the moon, planetary conjunctions etc etc… sorry guys, I can’t thank you enough for the U1 update, so I’ll stop now. Thanks!
All the best,
Uwe
EDIT: Just read Mav’s post up there, so feel free to disregard

as i said, Moon is still a problem ATM

I don’t think that planets ephemerid are included. (?)

Probably doesn’t make much sense either on 2nd thought as I believe internal falcon time is always the same time and date, right? Altough I guess this should be an (easy, I have no idea?) fix.
All the best,

easy fix ???
ROFLAMO !!! -
easy fix ???
ROFLAMO !!!Ok, there may be no such thing as an “easy fix” in BMS, I grant you that
However I guess there’s already an internal timer of sorts to keep track of the campaign date & time, so I guess this could be adjusted to a chosen date by the user (config option?) which could then be used to calculate the moon phase, planets and constellations accordingly.
Cheers, Uwe

All good things come to those who wait 3-4 weeks

3-5 weeks….
sorry

I like your realistic attitude as always, dear Franco.
What’s granted since now is that every wait in this Community was always worth to.
With best regards.
