Some random questions about BMS
-
You set the air defense and pilot skill in campaign difficulties - that’s after clicking on whatever it says before you start : cadet, ace, veteran, rookie.
Perhaps in the future you could make sure to include such a vital piece of information as 64x time compression. We all spent time and effort to help out a fellow simmer and it turns out to be this. Deep sigh.

Oh wow, thanks! I didn’t even realize that there’s a challenge rating and that it can be changed:
I thought that the AI difficulty was determined by the difficulty level on the upper right instead. Thanks for pointing that out!
And I agree, I can’t find anything that mentions the sim gets unstable after x4 time acceleration. The manual says not to go past x16 time acceleration on the campaign screen, but the only line that talks about in-cockpit acceleration is this one:
If you are on a particularly long and boring mission (what I call the “long drive to work”) consider using x2 or x4 time compression.

A little confused reading these posts. I read in the BMS manuals that 16X is the max that one should run the campaign in 2D. Is this still correct?
As for 3D, I know I can invoke 4X but never heard of any speed assignment for greater than that available?
Therefore it should be a moot point for 3D. -
Magnitude of issues depends probably on CPU perfo.

When I was flying campaigns single player, I used to skip the “boring areas” with x4 time compression, from what I remember I never saw problems with that, if you go in 3D more than x4 then weird things will happen, don’t do that
x4 is pretty fast for flying a mission, if all you like to do is sight seeing then it may get a bit slow, but no other option. -
I tested the dogfight scenario with 4v4 AI to see how AI handles BVR tactics.
When I fast forward x16 in 3D AI went banana.
x4 was the maximum speed AI can stay sane. -

Written or not, I can understand that it is not something intuitive since it is available in game. … We are saying on the forum from time to time but if you are a “new comer” it is normal that it is not something you can know.
Do not worry Ranma, let me introduce my good friend Jp. Jp say “Jeeez” quite often (me also ;)) … it has to be taken in the funny way, nothing against you. But we realize that many things remains obscure sometimes despite the huge effort from Red Dog / Darkman about documentation which are quite thick books.
Good you made the remark so be can repeat again to all friends here: In 3D … X4 max. (maybe, IF it is possible) it could be something smart to limit x4 in 3D and keep x64 only for Btest purposes)?
Thoughts.
Regards.

I upvote this idea.
If possible please allow :
b_enableMoreThanX4FastForwardIn3D = 1 (0 by default)

I like chihirobelmo’s idea. Another solution I’ve seen in other sim games (in particular the Silent Hunter series) is that the time acceleration number will turn yellow/red once you get past what the sim is able to handle without issues. It might not be an explicit “warning: weird things will happen”, but it at least strongly suggests something negative is happening. With that said, I’ll keep myself to X4 now that I know it’ll cause issues with anything above that.
