Indication atvr \ acmi is recording?
-
In the older blocks there’s a light that comes on when you activate ATVR, but in the newer ones in the training missions there is just a switch, that doesn’t move when you hit “f”. Is there a way to check its working other than hope there’s an acmi file after the flight?

All I know is the text associated with the falcon bms.cfg file
set g_bACMIRecordMsgOff 0 // Turns off the ACMI RECORDING msg
-
The switch moves and can be in three positions. Basically the third one is the one you want.

You may start BMS with:
Launcher.exe -acmi
Will automatically start ACMI recording each time you enter 3D.
From the BMS manual:
Note that an option in Falcon BMS.cfg (in the \User\Config folder) lets you choose whether to display
the ACMI RECORDING message on screen or not. Back in 4.33 we advised not to use it and use the
green AVTR indicator light instead? Unfortunately, with 4.34 that ACMI message might be unrealistic
but it is your sole option to indicate ACMI status.I personally use YAME64 and there is a possibility to show the state of the AVTR as a greeen light/box. As i still use 4.33 i don’t know if this also works on 4.34.

I’ll toss it on one of my Lilliputs and see!
Edit: Works on 4.34! I put the YAME64 AVTR light on one of my touchscreens (it’s only 50x50). It glows Green when running and Gray when off and can be set to go on automatically with the -acmi executable switch or simply click the ACMI button (so it turns white) in Alt Launcher. To control on/off in flight you can always hit the “F” key, in my case it is clickable on the touchscreen. Downloaded Tacview 1.83 and it works great, only issue for me is the “Desert Storm” terrain map is not on Tacview so you can’t see the actual map for it. For those with no extra screens they can use YAME64 to put the little light up in the top left/right corner of their monitor and it should work fine also as an indicator I would think…
Why do you use 4.33?? And IF you decide to upgrade to a new 4.34 Ux installation, you must keep 4.33 installed as YAME64 requires it to be in place to function…

You could use Helios as AVTR indicator as an overlay as well. Works with 4.34 directly

With this set to 0 this is what you should see.
No other software is required.

On my Warthog I got “SimAVTRSwitch” coded to Shift LTB. Only one Shift LTB press moves it to the 3rd position, AUTO, although not labeled correctly in the cockpit. Next press moves it to RECORD. Next press moves it to OFF. In AUTO the AVTR records for 30 seconds when you pickle or trigger. In RECORD the AVTR records as long at it’s in that position. OFF turns off AVTR. If you want to know the status, glance at the switch. I usually start in AUTO with 1 keypress of Shift LTB knowing there won’t be any recording until I pickle or trigger. But if during the flight I feel the need to record continuously I know without glancing at the switch that all I got to do is press Shift LTB. And finally one more Shift LTB to OFF.

Is there an advantage using the build in ACMI instead of TacView?

Nope, except a higher accuracy of parameters in some cases.

I thought ACMI replay didn’t work anymore hence the need for Tacview. Just tried ACMI replay again as it CTD’d yesterday when I selected an ACMI file. It appears BMS creates multiple VHS files for a flight. I did a quick < 1 min. Instant Action and I have one 1KB file (TAPE0003.vhs) and one 1331KB file (TAPE0004.vhs) . Selecting the 1KB file works, when I select the 1331KB file it CTD’s…
Edit: It appears the 1st VHS file I select will play, regardless of size and the CTD happens when I close that and try and select a different file. Just restarted BMS, selected TAPE0004 first and it opened up, closed it and selected TAPE0003, CTD. Memory allocation issue?

Just becasue the one that are pre-recorded was done in 4.33 (no longer compatible with 4.34) and we’ve forgot to suppress or redo them.
If you record it yourself you will be able read them in ACMI player. -

If you record it yourself you will be able read them in ACMI player.Dee-Jay, I only had 4.34.4 ACMI files in there. To test again I wiped the ACMI folder clean, ran an Instant Action A-A for about 10 minutes, it created 4 ACMI files. As you can see from the attachment 3 are 1KB, one is 7,174KB. Tried opening in F4 ACMI and it CTD’d a few times and then did open up the 7.2MB VHS file and worked fine. Not a big deal as I splurged on Tacview Advanced, just trying to acquaint myself with it (BMS ACMI).
