Cougar decalibrates constantly
-
My Cougar (original, not modded) works reasonable OK, with some minor spiking, but the real problem is that I need to recalibrate it constantly, mostly each 2 or 3 days of use,.-
The axis that need recalibration are mostly Throttle and aileron.
Calibrating process is very quick and easy, but I hadnt that problem before.
Any help is welcome
Thanks -
Check calibration is not set to automatic in cougar control panel

There’s a know issue with calibration switching back from Manual to AUTO, might be worth to check this
You may have set it to manual in the CCP but it somehow reverts automaticaly to AUTO.
It’s mostly visible at the throttle detent.
When it happens, you basically don’t have to recalibrate. You just have to set it back to manual and it reverts to the set manual calibrationI don’t know why it acts so, I “think” it’s something win10 related because the issue started to happen to me and some others after updates to Win10.
I developped the habit of checking my calibration before flying and made sure it’s set to MANUALIf you still use FOXY, there’s a single line that solves it:
USE HWSTARTUP (EMULATION_ON, AXIS_MODE_USER, CALIBRATION_MANUAL)
in your TMJ files and since doing this, I never had any loss of manual calibration anymore -
It’s been 15 year my cougar does not keep its manual calibration fine
Happened on two cougar already
Cougar Is unfortunately the poorest piece of hardware and software on earth
A lot of voodoo is needed to make it work

Another testify: Same as Red Dog, mine has no issues for 20 years.

My second cougar was more stable than my first
My first lost firmware all the time ROFL
-
I got to be luckier. I I am losing firmware from time to time (rare) when I “do something wrong” (don’t know what).

last flash for me was before 2010. and I am not kidding
so definitely not the same story for all users.and except for that loss of calibration issue I encountered in the early win 10 days (which has been solved with the line above), the cougar is working flawlessly for ages and it’s used intensively.
i guess it just needs love and kind attention … and understanding -
You and I have our Cougar permanently connected. Maybe issues comes when user is connecting/reconnecting it all the time (?)
Personalty, I am 200% satisfied of my Cougar! … I would dream about a new TQS (USB) going the the Warthog Stick. -

Reboot computer and hop firmware is gone … I wonder what should I do ? Never reboot ?
This was with my first cougar , since my new one it is never lost. Proof that the problem is not my competence but clearly something in electronics.
Basically bad flash memory unable to keep the program without power
Not to mention the ridiculous messages about disconnecting throttle when flashing LOl , what a master piece of electronicsCalibrate , perfectly , let the computer run 24hours , come back , calibration zero is lost…though that one is more a problem of FCC2 temperature and internal constraints rather than cougar …
What I love as well is the super quality of components , event the USB Plug is low quality , I had to change it since it was responsible of bad hiccups and calibration lost…
By the way that could be a clue for the OP, check your usb plug , clean it and move it to see if it impacts the response

Do you Believe that in the last 9 years I never rebooted or shut my computer down?
read the post mate, the important bit you missed is here:so definitely not the same story for all users.
no need to get on your big horses
By the way, the idea is to help the OP, bashing the cougar won’t help Soldano fixing his Cougar
So get constructive !! -

That’s a very good point as well

My commented issue began not long time ago.
I always have manual calibration set, and I notice inmediately when auto is set as the Hotas behaviour is absolutely diferent.
The first axis to decalibrate is the throttle, followed by aileron. Elevator rarely does
I an using Win 7 64, and almost never disconnect my Cougar
I turn out my PC at night -
Cougar needs constant electrical voltage. If you have noticed this problem occurs when there is a electric current failure in home. Maybe the port that you connect your cougar dont have constant electrical voltage.
Try to use a HUB with external power supply for constant electrical voltage, that save my life for this problem.Reboot computer and hop firmware is gone … I wonder what should I do ? Never reboot ?
HUB with external power supply for this problem too.

yeah i did try that in the past, it did not improve the issue
and i should have an battery (in case of power shut down) just for the cougar ?
what a piece of shit LOL

Realy? At least 4 members in my SQ had a problem like yours or like soldano’s and with this HUB now they are all ΟΚ.
Ι cant think something else.

Changing the cougar for a new one solved most of my electronics issues
The last problem I had was related to bad usb plug
And then I have the undelaying problem of the FCC2 which is too dépendant on temperature
Of course my airbrake switch broke , like most people but with proper resin I was able to repair it
And the monster play I had on the stick was solve with proper cork at the right places
As I said voodoo + luck + heavy maintenance has always been needed with this POS
