How to get into casual multiplayer?
-
The first multiplayer tactic you’ll be proposed is 95% rampstart.
-
Don’t be frightened by a RAMP start: You can do it (including ILS alignment) in under 8 minutes. (I know the hardcore BMS folks will be at my throat here but it can be done :))
Falcon events discord is also a great, newbie-friendly place to be.
Cheers, Uwe

In addition to UOAF and Falcon Lounge there is Stalkers Wing Walkers, kind of a training wing. No SOPs there or anything like that, just a group of peeps that like to help people out. So that could be an option for you as well. It’s a smaller group so maybe less intimidating to start out with these things.
I would say ramp start is important for MP since most flights will start with a jet cold and dark. It’s really not that bad, only a couple steps to get your jet started. The rest is just getting systems online and set up for your flight. If you use voice attack, I have a profile that can automate those steps until you are comfortable doing it on your own. Some of the items on the checklist are not necessary to perform, just add to immersion. I am sure someone could walk you through the ramp start procedure and you would get it down pretty quick.

Thank you 84hd.
Indeed we are a virtual training wing with no experience required. LEARN TRAIN FIGHT. As we all already know, sans arcade flying, BMS study sim is a marathon not a sprint.
Have fun wherever you choose to fly MP!

I see no reason for “casual” mp not allowing player to join at taxi rather than preclude or delay whilst on the spot training attempted. I always give the choice.

yeah that would not be a good fit for us as we’re ramp to ramp 99% to keep the immersion of the sim non-arcade But hey different strokes for different folks!

casual
Is less your training arena and more 2 or more people of mixed abilities, often strangers and not at all “Arcade”. Not everyone can make the extra time required for a ramp regardless of if they know how to. Casual and INCLUSIVE is at least as valuable and rather more fits the need of the OP perhaps -

I think the matter is, OP doesn’t know how to. Which implies a number of other things that are related to MP, regardless of doing ramp or not.

You’re in France so that’s not helping with both timezone and latency but we’re a pretty casual group of BMS flyers here in New Zealand - we usually fly 4-ship campaign missions (PVE) but we also participate in BMS TvT events.
I’m sure there must be groups in Europe like us, in the sense that we’ve all been flying BMS for many years, we can ramp start with our eyes closed but we also have families, kids to put to bed and sometimes come home late from busy jobs.
So we often chose to do taxi starts, instead of ramp start, just because of the time it takes. We’re pretty relaxed about the whole thing and don’t consider it “less or more realistic”. And when we have someone new to BMS joining us for a flight, we also make time to help someone out - so we may just do a short flight, so we can take someone through to ramp start, one step at the time, as a training session.Surely there must be a group of friendly BMS flyers in Europe that is willing to help a fellow virtual Viper driver out?

- Ramp start. Never did and frankly don’t want to spend the time learning at this moment.
No factor.

Hi Lorik,
Which? What do you mean?
You imply that i’d probably lack MP skills in general?
Well, that’s a perfectly reasonable assumption, since i never did MP.
I self-declared on FL as Beginner (even though technically I’m not even that because of my non existent MP+IVC experience).
I didn’t want to trigger anybody with the ramp start thing. But i realize that this is probably the very feature that draws the line between casuals and the hardcore folks.
So if you think i wouldn’t be worth your time in MP because of that, i must accept that.
This post is all about finding people that would fly with me despite being a Beginner. -

This post is all about finding people that would fly with me despite being a Beginner.Knowing what someone can and can’t do before starting a MP session can be tricky enough, any indicator is welcome. The ability to rampstart is commonly considered as a basic pass on what you already know about how your jet globally works, and by extension how you can handle battle damage and unexpected problems during the tactical execution of the task. This is why someone who doesn’t want just to tour for a little while will most likely focus on that question. For example, if you can rampstart, I consider you know how to set your back-up UHF or restart your engine in flight.
That’s more of an assumption, but usually people who aren’t interested in rampstart tend not to be interested in knowing their avionics in depth (what arming delay should I set for my bomb? Is there even such a parameter? etc) and what factor it may be.
This is how stating you won’t learn rampstart will affect the experience you’ll get from your search.
Not having time or will to rampstart for a given or all sessions is something different.

@Lorik:
I understand, thanks. Perfectly reasonable. For now i go with the risk of getting narrower results. -
I think you can try Hoggit’s one - it is open 24/7 running server. At least it was like that I tested it few months ago. No rampstart required*.
*personally I did it once since 1999 in some version of eFalcon or SP.

Re-up with short update:
I’ve had the pleasure to fly with a bunch of people since, both with members from Falcon-Lounge in privately hosted sessions and especially on the Veterans-Gaming server. Special thanks to CobaltUK who has been a particularly caring host.If anyone reading this post is interested in privately hosted casual campaign missions, 2100-2300 CET/CEST, for beginners to intermediate skill, let me know.
It’ll be a pleasure for me to arrange and host the one or other sortie.
All i ask is that you can Taxi, Take Off, Nav, Land, BVR, A/G, communicate (en/de/fr) and connect and have any technical problems sorted out.PM me, or contact me on Discord: scrontch#0347
