Afterburner sound as an indication
-
Thank you. I feel good and I am clearly happy to have spent one year with the hands in the dirt (not only those f… sounds) and not a single flight for the fun.
I don’t know what to say.
I think you guys can be proud of what you made so far .
Apart to be a flightsimmer since my childhood (and I’m sad to admit this wasn’t yesterday …) , I’m also playing music in bands since almost the same time .
So I think I can understand your feelings quite a bit , Dee-Jay .People are all different , so even if you do your best to do smg , all the time , people will have different point of view on what you have created . Nothing anyone can do against it … and maybe it’s good like this …
I deeply respect the BMS team for what they have made and their spirit .
So you should relativise this a bit Dee-Jay : if there are so many pov, what could we say about flightsimmers pov ?!?? : Flightsimmers can’t be satisfied .
They are hunting for realism , so the only thing that could fulfill their wet dreams is actually a true plane .In my humble opinion , i tend to think that if someone really want to hear a clip sound on the throttle , they just should buy a throttle with a detent . But , at the same time , a clip sound in the sim seems a good idea to implement in the future ( for people like me who fly with only a simple Logitech Stick ), when you devs will have the time and the energy and the money for this . Sure it would be very appreciated , and I would be one of those who would thank the most for such a feature .
But I still think that if I would really need to hear this sound , it would be a long time since I would have bought a solid , state of the art HOTAS .
Is it a difficulty in the sim ? I would answer : yes ! I wasn’t joking when I said I truly LOVE the Mirage 2000 , for its marvellous , bright AB Lamp .
In another thread , I was asking to myself why there wasn’t such an effective system in all fighter jets ? THIS is strange , imo . Even on the old TU 144 (former Soviet Supersonic Civil jet for thoses who maybe don’t know , you probably have heard of the “Concordsky”), you could find such a precious, visual indicator …
If people are debating on such little things, here, on this forum , you should realize the incredible work you have achevied !!! You should be proud with a big smile on your face : people are reduced to discuss about tiny , tiny , so tiny details … meaning all the rest don’t even create a debate , or maybe , on the margin .
BMS isn’t really a sound simulator so don’t worry .
You have done a super work , 1000000 appreciated by many , many people . But if those persons showed now , you would be overwhelmed.
Just take it as an interesting suggestion , that would be very kind to implement one day for people like me , but don’t be deceived , no reason for that .Good work BMS Team .
Regards,
Laurent

Hi Lolo!
So you should relativise this a bit Dee-Jay
Yes I should. But not sleeping is not good for my mental sanity.
For example, that issue prevented me to get sleep last night because I was trying to find a way to make it better. Then I’ve found a better way than the “clonk” of the throttle (which we can also do probably).
Then I tried to figure out how to explain my idea on the Dev forum … and then try to think which coder I should ask to help me on that one and him to ask him to try to convince him that is could be valuable …
And now … 11PM, I am still spending my time on that forum and working on DB the same time despite the fact that I almost didn’t slept for 24H … and so … my mental sanity is going even worse …So yes you’re right … I should definitively take it easy and probably I should not be reading your kind post and should not writing that answer.
We will try to make our best to solve your issue about the AB sound for ppl without physical detente. But it has to be done in a smart way … not by simply reverting to the older “unrealistic” and bad effect.
So now I need a coffee and a cigarette to stay alive.
Regards.

i have bought these products and they work great. This one looks a little different then the one i bought years ago but it should still work.

Glad you did ! Don’t forget : I play in a band

Not mine , but u understood anyway . It’s probably truly a good idea .

Agreed .

more importantly :You need to sleep

I liked having the sound difference before but simply look at my Nozzle Position and Fuel Flow now…
-
Yeap… johku very good point.
Guys too much noise for sound… like it’s a showstoper bug or a non operating app.
Not everyone can be satisfied. The effort and enormous time spent was to provide a more realistic experience.enjoy the holidays, be safe, turn your volumes up and enjoy the whole experience without focusing on a leaf of the forest…
If tree in forest falls down and no one is near to hear it, does it make a sound? I mean merry x-mas everyone.

Lorik, the AB is not something you can realy feel IRL. I’ve explained it many times in the past.
At low altitude and at takeoff, yes … At 20000ft 400kts, you feel nothing.
Same about airbrake.
Physio sensation is definitively not something relevant as valid feedback on AB or airbrake. On the F-16 you have the Nose Pos, the FF and (if you have a Courgar) the throttle detent (which is not an indication but a detent)
On the M2000 there is even a light. You option is tweaking a fake sound and add a bip if you can’t accept to have to read your instruments.
Hi Dee-Jay,
I’m quite new in the BMS community. You mentioned the light for AB on the M2000. It isn’t fonctionnal in the cockpit. Have you an idea for fix this problem?
Thanks in advance. -
HiRazzi!
I am trully sorry, I am not flying anything but F-16 and basically, I am personaly “not in favor of” other flyable a/c (just because we don’t have enought ressources to make everything correctly). I don’t know what is the M2000 issue and I have no idea how to fix.
Kind regards.
-
Thank you for you prompt response Dee-Jay! I will continue my research
Have a good evening ! -
Am I the only one who’s having a quick glance on the nozzle position to check if the AB is active?
-
Nope. Me too, always. Noz Pos and/or FF.
-
Anybody with an x55 or 65, there is no detent on these sticks i got used to hearing the AB sound as an aid for the physical detent, but for me i just printed of this mod for my hotas at thingiverse now i actually feel a slight clunk when engaging AB stages.
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2370066
2hours to print, 10secs to install, not sure why i did not do it before, now if i could only sort my stuttering out.
-
I have just thought that not everybody has 3d printers to hand, if your interested hit me up

For those who don’t care to mess with the BMS sounds, a friend and I built a small application that:
- Reads BMS’s axismapping.dat, joystick.cal, and DeviceMapping.txt to determine your throttle axis (& device) and your AB detent.
- Plays a small click when you go past the detent from military to burners
- Plays a different small click when you go the other way, from burners to dry thrust.
Project here: https://github.com/mrkline/bms-burner
Download here: https://github.com/mrkline/bms-burner/releases/download/v0.4/bms-burner-0.4.7zYou should be able to extract the contents wherever you want; it should find your BMS directory automatically.

You just made a good number of friends. I’ll confess that is a bit overkill now for me, as dead zone and throttle lights do the job, but that’s excellent stuff, simple, non-invasive, and editable. Well done.

I get exception errors when I try and run it… regardless if BMS is running/not running or where I place it… I also got the latest mpv x64 ands put it in my “BMS-Burner” folder, which I put under the “Data” folder in BMS 4.35…
-
Nope. Me too, always. Noz Pos and/or FF.
I think everything is perfect as it is currently in 4.35 !
There is no reason to spend time and resources for something that a virtual pilot can handle(just look the noz position). We have the BMS dev team but also a big mod community, so if there is a need for a mod like “BMS burner sounds” its just gonna pop up within 3 to 4 weeks.
I prefer the new sounds as they give you a more realistic engine sound feedback. -
I get exception errors when I try and run it.
I pushed a new version (0.3) last night which should have better error handling, and which should use DeviceMapping.txt to make sure it grabs the right controller.
Let me know if the error persists, and if it does, grab the bms-burner-log.txt log!

Edit: It started without error and appears to see my throttle movement but I set up an Idle-Cutoff in AL 1.60 and it does not seem to detect that. I did not hear sounds UNTIL I ran BMS, then there they were!. I assume any .ogg file will play if renamed “burners-on/burners-off”, yes?
Thank you, just need to figure out the Idle Detent not being picked up and good to go!

I assume (once I get the sounds to play) any .ogg file will play if renamed “burners-on/burners-off”, yes?
From the barest glance at the source, it certainly looks like all its doing is playing the files which are located in the appropriate directory which are named correctly. So… answer should be yes.
