Mission Commander beta release

Got that. But not sure what you mean by ‘Those are the files that are stores if you use the “Always replace” function’?
I just tried the conversion again and went into the endless sequence of “objective replacement” dialogues. Is there some button I’m not pressing first? (I mean, it starts with Fukuoka, then Pusan, then on and on. I understand that Mandumi no longer exists, and that may be problematic, but the rest just seem like name changes, essentially. I don’t think my MC install is faulty, so I’m at a loss as to how to convert a 4.34 TE…)

Hey,
@Slothrop:Got that. But not sure what you mean by ‘Those are the files that are stores if you use the “Always replace” function’?
If you use the “Always replace X by Y” this data needs to be stored somewhere. This is done in the “Conv” directory

If I have some time I’ll see if I can get this replicated here. Until then… just be patient
Some background info for those who like it.
- Objectives, saved in the starting files like te_new.tac and saveX.cam files (Saved mission files do NOT contain the Objectives) These contain the location and type of Object.
- Object, (NOT Objective) is stored in the database and contains what it is (Airbase, Factory, City) and what features this Object contains.
The mission files only contain numbers which are points to location in the database or in this case to the Objective.
So a Squadron has a simple number pointing to the Objective (which is in the te_new.tac)
During the years these pointers can change and so there is totally no way to use these when converting the mission files from one version to the other.
The only way to see what is in the old version and new version is by comparing the name. And as names can be set to anything…
As you write, Mandumi is missing in newer versions, so it can’t even be replaced really. For Squadrons, the user needs to pick a different airbase which might not always be the same. For things like weapons…
Racks and possible loads have changed over time. During older times, an specific aircraft could load a weapon at station X. Now this weapon name has changed, can’t be carried anymore or moved to a different station.Well I think you see we are already very lucky having this conversion feature at all!!!
Just give me some time, got plenty more things on my plate.

Hey,
Looked at it here on my side and works as should.
Yes, it is normal to get these questions for all those Objectives as they have been removed or the name has been changed.
A lot of work is being done inside the Dev teamBut this is only means some work for the first mission you convert. Selecting “Always Replace…” the selection is stored and for the same Objective this does not need to be repeated the next time you convert a mission.
Tested and works fine here. Even works if you don’t end the conversion progress. In the Convert screen you will see a couple of buttons to reset these stored Replaces.
If you reset these, then you will get all questions again. But maybe I can do something to smooth the process

Thanks, Falcas. You are a very patient man. I appreciate it.
And, yes, I feel very lucky to have MC’s conversion feature. Hell, I’d feel lucky having MC even without it (I used MC for a year or more before even discovering this feature).
But this is only means some work for the first mission you convert. Selecting “Always Replace…” the selection is stored and for the same Objective this does not need to be repeated the next time you convert a mission.
Tested and works fine here. Even works if you don’t end the conversion progress. It was this I was referring to in my original post. I had assumed that most of those Objectives (barring, perhaps, Mandumi and similar cases) would have a default replacement in the “Always Replace…” store from the outset (that is, in the “TranslateObj.txt” file). I did notice that the “Conv*.txt” files expand with each passing dialogue. I’m probably misunderstanding something again.
I will certainly be patient. If I can assist in testing, or provide my conversion files to ease the process for others (for you to include in your distribution), please let me know. I would be proud to contribute to this community if I can.

Nope, you are quite correct here. The TranslateObj.txt has not been updated for 4.35. However this does only help you out a little.
In case MC can find the Old=>New in the TranslateObj.txt, you will get the same question screen. But in this case the Old and proposed new Object are colored green AND the “Always replace” checkbox is automatically checked on.I have improved this a little and will release a new version soon.

New version for MC available.

Thanks, Falcas. You’re a wizard.
That said, I’m still having a problem with 4.34 mission conversion (it existed in the prior version, too, but I expected it would disappear with your new version). With 0.5.14.558 the conversion goes much faster; far fewer “Replace objective” dialogues! (I see that your “TranslateObj.txt” file tripled in size.)
But when I open the converted mission in BMS, I find that all assets in South Korea are colored red (PRC), while all assets in North Korea are white (not sure what this signifies). Nowhere are there green (USA) or blue (ROK) assets on the map. Furthermore, the OOB shows only US and PRC entries (no DPRK or ROK), and the US has almost no assets of any kind.
Any idea whether I’m doing something wrong? Or is it possibly a mismatch in lining up the “te_new.tac” files between the two BMS versions?
Unrelated, but I’m curious: do you have a suggested replacement for Mandumi? I used airstrip R218, because it was closest to the disappeared Mandumi, but I don’t know if that’s the best choice… Or do you think that it’s best just to edit any relevant TEs to change their primary/alternate airbases to maybe Kimpo or Seoul?
I hope you don’t find my questions too tiresome. I really appreciate your hard work and dedication. (I was a software engineer in my former life–I know all about f*****g users and their constant nagging.) Just trying to sort out some remaining issues, of which one may be my decaying brain!

Wow… while I understand that stand and is sometime somewhat truthful statement. … Your company probably have/had one of Top10 worse customer supports in the world.
–but since you’re here , I’ll tell ya, there is alot you still don’t understand BMS cam/te structure - and you’re playing with advanced stuff which is not even 99% error-proof , everything can go wrong in any time…
These procedures were never? documented , even MC for the advanced part is not documented … aside Falcas’s “good samaritan will” to include short descriptions in tooltips for what simple /most used/ options do … exactly for the reason you’ve mentioned above
While it all seems straightforward , point and click, - in reality, I reckon you’ve figured out already , it isn’t … without basic understanding how things work — you’ll have a ton of questions, and after that , add another metric ton
FIRST … Go to “modding section” of forum , use search , find docs and read how the ".cam " file “works” - that will open a “third” eye for any of the stuff you’re trying get help here
Then, start with MC’s (while not really modding) advanced functions. And then if you’re stuck … whistle
Cheers

Hello,
During my missions in KTO i destroy enemy unit vehicles, mainly on SAM battalions.
The thing is that every unit get a replacement vehicle after a short while (1-2hours) so this thing is not so realistic.
for example, i destroyed both SA-10 radars several times but they keep on comming again so i can not nutrelized any unit, its like they have unlimited supplly and replacments.I checked MC to see if i can change it somehow and i found this :
Is this the place to handle this thing and if so what r the numbers in the circles means ?
Well…@regev, my dear Russian friend, //
Welcome to the strategic part of F4/BMS . Supply, fuel, reinforcements, replacements, …
NO. They are not unlimited. These are points produced by your team SUCCESS - or subtracted by FAILURE
Factories, powerplants, oil refineries … etc. The more the merrier. - of course intact or in one piece. (not destroyed)
How all that reflects to units… (I’m taking this from memory so if you will Please re-check this , so in case I say something stupid)
Replacement points are for units replacement if unit survived long enough … so, unit was not obliterated or surrendered to other side. - its members (vehicles) will be replaced
-that is why your SA20 keeps reappearing - THAT IS A GOOD THING- so if they loose a Radar , they are useless to the end of campaign - cannon fodder - that is why replacement is a good thing as radar will be replaced … and we again have alive and active enemy sam that is going to surprise you when you’re taking a scene tour, believing you took care of it before
-SO, It is NOT that simple … even in real life , not?
You need to destroy whole unit , or some ~90% of it … I THINK , … then … preferably capture it with your closest tank platoon - they will surrender , depends of MORALE and SUPPLY
WHEN team loose all of their replacement points … that’s it … no more replacement for ground/air units (vehicles) …
(points need to be produced again if possible, no power/factories - no points) …… some of it is hardcoded… but that doesnt matter really … in the end, or you win or you loose the campaign
Cheers

With 4.35 we have included all teams to the te_new.tac. This used to be only the red and blue team.
Look in the Team tab, you will see a button “Teams as in te_new.tac” That might help in your case. Although, setting the teams as you want is something you need to do by hand.Unrelated, but I’m curious: do you have a suggested replacement for Mandumi? This is something you need to make a choice for yourself.
Can be everything you like or see fit. Airplanes need to be moved to an airport, but a heli squadron can also be moved to one of the army bases near by.Gr Falcas

Hi Falcas
4.35 EMF v1.0.5 theatre is not working in the MC 558 version i m receiving an error as ‘‘failed to load the OCD XML’’
What is your suggestionsregards

MC 0.5.15.558
BMS 4.35.022548
EMF 1.05Works fine here.

Thanks again, Falcas.
With 4.35 we have included all teams to the te_new.tac. This used to be only the red and blue team.
Look in the Team tab, you will see a button “Teams as in te_new.tac” That might help in your case. Although, setting the teams as you want is something you need to do by hand.
Gr FalcasSo I tried this a couple of times. The warning when I press the “Teams as in te_new.tac” is SCARY: “Do NOT use yet! continue anyway?” But I pressed “Yes” and tried to proceed with your suggestion. However, the result was that all assets (North and South Korean) became blue (and here I nod to white_fang’s remonstration that “–but since you’re here , I’ll tell ya, there is alot you still don’t understand BMS cam/te structure - and you’re playing with advanced stuff which is not even 99% error-proof , everything can go wrong in any time…” Harsh, but true.).
Also, I note that the “Team Update” dialogue doesn’t map anything to ROK, and DPRK appears twice (as “old team” 2 and 6). The mapping of the first three teams (XX, U.S., and DPRK) seems reasonable since 4.34 only had BLUFOR and OPFOR teams, whereas 4.35 splits BLUFOR into U.S. and ROK. So it may be that there’s just no sane way to remap the 5 teams that never existed in 4.34. I can live with that.
But I’m still baffled that DPRK assets show up in the converted TE as blue (and there are no green assets corresponding to U.S. squadrons, etc.). Any help is much appreciated, as always, including an advisement to “just STFU and recreate your 4.34 TEs, already!” I’ve wasted too much of your time already.
I know I must be doing something very wrong (yes, white_fang, enjoy the schadenfreude). I assume that you and/or RedDog used MC to convert all the 4.34 training TEs before 4.35 was released (you implied this, more or less, in our first exchange). If either of you can outline the steps you took in MC to do this it would probably serve me well to follow.
This is something you need to make a choice for yourself.
Can be everything you like or see fit. Airplanes need to be moved to an airport, but a heli squadron can also be moved to one of the army bases near by.
Gr FalcasUnderstood, and expected. I’m using R218, for now, since it’s the closest. However, it’s a tiny airstrip. I may switch to Kimpo instead. But I’ll probably just edit the affected TEs to adjust the alternate fields…
Again, thanks a lot, and feel free to mute me if you like.
-
I note, also, that when I open the converted mission in MC it displays all assets as expected (DPRK north of the DMZ, ROK south of it), and U.S. squadrons in the “Units” tab show up as expected. However, when I open it in BMS I see only blue assets across the map. FWIW, and please let me know if you’d like me to desist. You’ve done more than enough for me already, and I’ll just accept white_fang’s opinion that I’m an idiot.

Does Mission Commander require some sort of external program to function properly? Or update to it? NET Framework or such?
The thing is that I just switched my HDD to a SSD and having to reinstall Windows and a lot of games, including Falcon BMS. I get a error when i try to load a cam file from any theatre and it says MC cannot load LzssNative.dll.
Do I need to update something? Windows is the latest version, but other programs/functions?
-
Are able to load a tac or cam file with Weapon Delivery Planner ? If yes you might copy the DLL over from there. The dll is to compress and decompress BMS cam and tac files

It seems to work! Thanks!
Although I get a caution on Kuwait: Could not find Objective name. Objective nr 503 Nameid is larger than text table. Nameid 1202.
Is it something to be concerned about (never got this before).

I know I must be doing something very wrong (yes, white_fang, enjoy the schadenfreude).
My man , I aint holding any grudge , I also wore diapers once … probably… maybe not
I’m simply trying to “push” you into (probably?) right course of action, since you’ll end up in more trouble then asked for … modding/editing BMS is like a box of chocolate… you never know what are you going to get
Again, thanks a lot, and feel free to mute me if you like.
Naah, We (I think I can say WE) don’t operate like that … Every action has consequences… now or later… hushing/muting is not an option. - As most of us are here to help when able, not to haze one other (ugh, in “selected theaters” ) … that is if you are into masochism enough to read our replies
Cheers
