Beep sound before crap hits the fan
-
From time to time in single player campaign and TE environments, there is often a beep sound a few minutes before everything goes to hell.
I don’t think it’s the RWR because -
1. The beep is lower in pitch than most RWR sounds. (But higher than a USA dial tone - Difficult to describe - maybe similar to a fax machine when pushing buttons on the console?)
2. It only sounds once and does not repeat when I get nails, spikes, dirt, mud, or singer. Only once.
3. I have seen a clear RWR when the beep soundsIs this an enemy flight spawn or maybe entering my “bubble”?
-
IFF interrogation maybe…
-
Define “everything goes to hell”.
-
Do you record ACMI?
-
Do you mean that you’re getting shot down, or that the sim is crashing?
-
I am with Lorik. You get probed IFF at max range (up to 120 miles in BMS), enemy confidence grows you are hostile, shit hits the fan once you are in range of enemy weapons.
-
Doesn’t the RWR self test with a single beep now and then?
-
I give vote for SA10 for these reasons:
- “few minutes before everything goes to hell”
- “fax machine sounds”
- “It only sounds once and does not repeat” (it repeats but but longer intervals)
-
TacView review of the mission to see what it was?

Is this the tone you’re hearing? https://www.dropbox.com/s/f2uaudvzxatzvvw/iffmode4monitor.ogg?dl=1

Was wondering the same thing, in a TE that has only a flight of J-8s and a flight of friendly F-5s i got a tone with no identifiable source (RWR blank). Not the sound Malc posted above, just a short high pitched sigle beep, similar to a single part of the “new guy” RWR sound. -32, stock KTO.

Pls go into \Falcon BMS 4.35\Data\Sounds\Twi\ALR69 (Assuming you’re using stock ALR-69 for the Bl32) and play each of the tones in turn, report back if any of them match what you’re hearing

Hmmmm it could be the ALR69SelfTest sound, but it showed up at seemingly random moments, prior or even during engagement, when RWR is already well operational….
edit: i have no doubt that it’s most likely that i’m missing something, or that it is a case of RTFM

This is similar. The tone is very close, but the sound I hear is shorter - maybe 1/4 as long as this ogg file.
Maybe it is an IFF tone after all. It seems that a few minutes after I hear it, I start getting very busy defending from air threats more than ground. I like your idea to listen to all of the sounds. I’ll check them out, answer my own question, and share with the group!

I found the noise on a YouTube video -
At exactly 33:56 There is the “boop” sound.
-
Sounds like an RWR Status Change tone, to me…

I don’t know but this is not related to a threat indeed.

I hear this “boop” always with the training F-16 in TE in landing. Right after I land and about to taxi I can hear the same sound.

Its the ALR-69 auto BIT.
