Solved HMCS knob at ramp
-
@fullnegi
What he said, in kto, the korean f16 dosent have it but us planes did.
Depends on block and country i guess -
Having an HMCS knob isn’t a guarantee that HCMS is equipped
-
@amadeus75 Good to know, that’s probably the answer he wants.
I’ll easily assume from what he wrote that Fullnegi knows what block he flies and doesn’t see the knob turning, which is a totally different problem.

@amadeus75 Thanks for your reply and feedback.
That’s exactly my problem. The tricky thing is that the on/off button still continue to work with UHF/VHF with the mouse cursor, even if the axis are sets, not for the HMCS…
That’s really shame that “on/off” still continue to work with mouse for radios, but not for the HMCS. Maybe the mouse cursor send “increase” input for HMCS, and ON/Increase for the radio?I don’t have a software for this axis But i got my shortcut on 2nd layer for my Hotas, so i’ll put it there as i use to. I’ll try it with the keystroke shortcut to put it “On” instead of “Increase”.
Also i noticed a difference between UHF/VHF and HMCS axis : when i’m at 0% of the physical axis, i just can’t ear any radio, like the radio were turned off, but for the HMCS, i still see it… (if i start in taxi/take off/dogfight/instant action, …), so 0% of the axis doesn’t mean to turn it off, but just the lower position before the off. Must be something related…
@LorikEolmin Actually, i see my knob turning when i’m turning it physicaly. Just like the radio knobs. But it just don’t put on.
@oldtommyboy I tried on different block, especially on block50-52
I just got the problem since i set up my physical axis@MaxWaldorf exactly. Some countries in BMS got the money for the panel, but not for the helmet

You’re not alone, OP. I couldn’t get the HMCS knob to work while bound to an axis either.

I guess that’s just how it works.
HMCS brightness just does not go to zero.
If you don’t need it inflight, just hold DMS down for half a second, and you can toggle it on/off.Keep in mind that the real HMCS knob does not power on/off by pushing on it.
Beginning with OFF position, you start turnig it clockwise, you hear a “click” and then you can turn it all the way up.
Frankly, I must admit, I had no clue that the radios have such an ON/OFF function as well
Live and learnIn any case, you can - of course - keep the axis.
Just add a little key combi for on/off… I know it’s hard to find a key that is NOT used yet, but not impossible -
@fullnegi If it’s like you described and your axis binding isn’t turning on the HCMS even so the jet is equipped and you need a second button to turn it on /of here is a possible solution for the issue.
Use Joystick Gremlin and 2 Map to keyboard functions with both set the virual button activate at the beginning of your axis movement when axis is between 1,00 and 0,95 or 0,00 and 0,05 (depending where your start position is) . one with entering range from above one if entering range from below. You can then send the send keystrocks set for callbacks SimHmsOn SimHmsOffExample from a profile I use not for BMS another tank sim in order to turn a Xbox controller ministick to send keypresses at the end of the axis movements but this setup would apply to your situation

@oakdesign Thanks for the tips ! That software seems to be really good to know !
@Amadeus75
I did had the mechanism of the real knob in my mind and knew this DMS “trick”As i understood that’s the same for Com1/com2/ils, int lightning, ded brightness, etc, etc, … also.
As in the 3D cockpit, you can also turn the radios On by clicking 1 time on the knob with your mouse, to start to turn it and simulate this “knob click”. Even if you put an axis on it.That’s why i didn’t get why these knobs behave differently from the HMCS.
When you put an axis on it, why this “first click” with the mouse is still working for others and not the hmcs ?? As i understand, Increase callback ““integrate”” the On callback for radios and not hmcs ??
Oversight from the dev team? ^^’
Maybe, that can happen, that’s not a big deal. Just needed to understand and sort it out.Also, the HUD Sym don’t behave the same ! You don’t need this “click” (callback or mouse) for turn it on, you can simply turn it on with your axis… And i believe that you also have this click in the real one, isn’t it ?
This kind of knobs (click+axis) could be expensive and is a bit more complicate to integrate them in the pit. So as we had the DMS Down option, i though that just putting a simple axis for it would be enough in my cockpit and for my needs It is already when i’m starting from taxi however.
I was used to set my CMS left (2nd layer) for turning on the HMCS and increase brightness, so i’ll put that shortcut for the “hmcs on” and i’ll keep you tuned

@fullnegi
I see! Thanks for the info.
And you seem absolutely right. Per intuition, the “first click” really should be “triggerable” with the axis. -
@amadeus75 That’s the case for the Hud Sym, but i think that’s the only one…
I think this behavior is for the real-cockpit builder. It’s more simple to integrate a callback for the knob clicking, and then an axis for the knob. That’s clever in my opinion. That’s making the problem in a really simple and elegant solution.
And if you just have a “simple” knob, use your mouse for the first click then, that’s the same result and i’m fine with it.But it’s really weird the radios, hmcs, sym have 3 differents behavior ! my (verry) 2 cents

@fullnegi BMS, the only forums where you can argue with -a very simple click- seriously

Makes perfect sense.
Might be worth discussing if there should be a config checkbox if you want to choose a combined behavior or separate callbacks.
But for the time being, I am rather satisfied with a workaround. -

The dreaaaaaam for simple-cockpit maker
But making these checkbox for ALL the callbacks seems a pharaonic workout.@amadeus75 said in HMCS knob at ramp:

Yes, that’s just for ONE knob one DX shortcut on my stick is not a big deal
