Hi everyone!
I’m back on my…crutches again!!! I was discharged from hospital a couple of days ago…now 3 months with crutches…thats going to kill me…anyway…finally home…finally I can get back to my pit I’m still not feeling to good at the moment so no modelling maping now so I think its a good moment to sit back and think…“HOW DO IT PUT THIS INTO THE SIM???”
I´ve installed the LOD Editor and the LOD converter for 3ds. I´ve exported the 3d model to lod, save it on my desktop and opened it and I see this…
instead of this with a blue background….
Just kidding I know its not going to be that easy… Just wondering:
1. Where is it taking the textures from?
2. Where should I put my textures so I can preview them in the viewer?
3. Format for textures is dds right?
4. Seems from the image like some normals have changedd…what could this be due to?On top of this I opened the LOD editor for the first time today…daunting!!! And found the CT 2745 which according to this (cockpitart 649 folder):

Surley you’ll get qualified help from those who really know how to get your cockpit into BMS,
but I’ll try to give some answers.When you say you’ve installed LOD converter for 3ds, then you mean this one, … right?

which was used back in the days….1. If You open a *.LOD from a folder, then the textures should be in the same folder.

Hi everyone!
The first this to do is to make sure the textures are set-up correctly in Max. Make sure the textures are named 0000.dds, where 0000 is the texture number you wan to use.
Copy the texture to the <falcon bms=“”>\Data\Terrdata\objects\KoreaObj folder.
The viewer will use some registry entries that LOD Editor creates to find the textures when viewing the model.
You also need to make sure that you have configured the material correctly in Max. The majority of your nodes should be pType 9. Look in the exporter documentation for instructions about how to set-up a material correctly.

The dds in the BMS folder worked like a charm…it also solved MOST of the transparency issues, I will need to study a bit more what the smoothing groups are, I really have no idea what those are…any one’s got any documentation on it. Good to know about the type 9 nodes, but in the manual there is no explanation for the rest of the types. How can I manage transparency? And transparency with some baked reflections? for the HUD and canopy? I know its has something to do with the apha layer so I guess I have to create something similar to a opacity map in 3ds, right?
Also as a general strategy what do you guys think is the easiest for my purposes, to replace the existing cockpit with mine or to create a new 3d model? Why?
See a small update below…some more work on the textures…vertical panels with no post processing and AoA indicator, not much new…
I really need to do the HOTAS, any one feels like giving me a hand with it?..it feels quite empty otherwise, as well as the ejection seat, it will make a big difference. On the render I’ve desaturated the image and I think it looks much better…I will need to that more permanently on the textures at the end.
Anyway, enjoy your week-end…I will spend most of it laying on bed doing some physiotherapy exercises…

I´m back at home and getting the hang of crutches. Probably back to work on Tuesday!! Finally!!
Anyway…small update of the cockpit…finally with some “bodywork”, now its easier to imagine it in game I believe! Heavy WIP…all textures and geometry are place holders! Same for the “flying” Standby Compass

As a 3DS solid model, yes. But this is not a fully functional stuff. Even in this state at least MFD buttons and MFD screens should be alive, regardless the buttons are not animated. Selecting and determining how wish to simulate F-14 cockpit, switches, knobs, ect. with F-16C background exe support is not easy I think.

Yes.
But I always like to know what we have currently, and what is the plan. Without the mentioned minimal functionality the pit is unusable because I never learned the MFD’s keycombinations as well as many other “hotkey” functions.
