Stagnant Ground War
-

Has anyone ever had the ground war in a campaign progress without unchecking HQ control on ground units and intervening? The front lines always stay stagnant for days at a time, red units are shattered, bridges are all at 100%. Nothing ever happens when it says blue is beginning a “major offensive.”

Any tricks to getting the ground war more active? Something I’m missing?

@amr35
You could try changing the PAK priorities.

@amr35 have you tried manually giving ground forces waypoints that cause them to advance?

I have changed the PAKs around to avoid suicide missions into downtown Pyongyang to kick off the campaign. Then reset them &
Set by HQ after Day 1.

Always assumed that would just effect the ATO. Do PAKs also effect the waypoints for ground units?

I’ve kept HQ control clicked and then gave the ground units waypoints and I was thinking he meant that without changing those sliders.

This is as interesting topic to me, as thanks to a good MP Buddy of mine, in recent times I’ve taken a more active role in campaign management. I’m not sure what the Paks do for ground forces .I’m also curious what you meant by your “uncheck HQ and intervene” comment , and it’s impact. I mean, I’ve done what I call the 2D “white circle/line approach”(which I assume is what Snake is talking about about creating waypoints ) without unchecking HQ. What interventions have you tried, beyond what you described?

Something happened in a recent Iron Fortress campaign that might be relevant to our conversation. The campaign had stabilized about the FLOT. I did the WC/L deal to some units and got some movement, but not a lot. Then, I noticed the Bad Guys had pulled almost all their forces out of Seoul . So, I did an Inchon-style landing just west of there with 1 Tank and one Mech unit, and gave them the waypoint into Seoul. I then self-fragged my squadron for CAP and CAS over them and expected a fun Endgame. The problem was they moved so fast I barely had time to get my missions off before they ended the campaign !

I took a long look at that situation. Those Marine units had with good morale, supply, and low fatigue. As my Theater Reserve , they were fresh. The Red Forces, and my forces I couldn’t get much movement out of , turned out to all be “exhausted”. So, the campaign engine is looking at such things, plus modeling fog or war. It reminded me of the old saying “amateurs look at tactics, professionals look at Logistics”

So, the question becomes, how do we use these facts?

I’m not even sure if the sliders and PAKs effect ground units.

@LorikEolmin definitely does and you probably know this but just want to confirm since I read “without unchecking HQ control” as one thing an “on ground units and intervening” as another. I have been able to cause a lot of progress on my current KTO 4.35 campaign’s eastern front by adjusting the ground forces waypoints (white circles on the lines) and dragging them pretty far north towards Wosan and making sure they stay where I want after I drag them AND that the routing they plan to take isn’t too circuitous. I haven’t been able to make much progress on my western front towards Pyongyang because most of the bridges are blown there and I’m waiting on the Engineer units. I need to do like @drtbkj is saying and make a landing with some one to bypass the bridges but it’s been a long time since I have done that. So this post is probably not helpful for you unfortunately but wanted to confirm the basics of your “intervening.”

@Aragorn glad we could make you laugh for once, it seems like you’ve been back to old form the last few days so I’ve gotten a few in with your antics as well<img src=“/plugins/nodebb-plugin-emoji/emoji/android/1f602.png?v=1g16vn91q2r” alt=“” class=“not-responsive emoji emoji-android emoji–joy” />

Hi, Snake. While this doesn’t help Amr much, perhaps I can help with your Amphib landing. What I did , via Mission Commander, was to add the Wasp ARG (put an AV-8B squadron on it[In some Theaters like Korea 2012 you also have the F-35 option]),and Newport ARG off the coast. Then I put my ground forces at the shoreline, set their waypoints, and off they went.
I put the Newport in as the Wasp doesn’t land large tank forces The Newport LST’s are designed for that. They can each carry 29 tanks or 30 AAV’s, and each Newport ARG spawns with 2 Newports.
BTW, bridge status wasn’t an issue in my case, but you are absolutely right that it can be a big factor.
Hope that helps
