Worked ok before the update, can’t remember if there was something I did for the original 4.36 as I saw this error before… ?
-
@Icer please provide more details

@Tumbler31 - Click Launch, the BMS splash screen pops up, then this…
Then it sits until I click the error, then all closes…

@Icer I think he meant hardware info

Don’t think that’s it because I just checked and the Error is back… not solved.

@Icer USB sound adapter? I have a Sennheiser usb headset … amazing audio quality, but very dodgy drivers. Sometimes I have to unplug and replug it, and it’s 50/50 whether it initializes or not.
Maybe it’s just something about USB audio in Windows…
When my usb audio driver fails to init, the audio path falls back to the Nvidia drivers (audio over displayport).
But if your monitor has no speakers… maybe that is causing BMS to throw that error?
Just wild guessing.
-
@Icer it worked and now it doesn’t anymore? That’s curious, did you change something in between?
And please share the full dump and post post the text file logs files here, I might have a look on my phone

@airtex2019 - Coincidentally I use a Sennheiser headset also but it is not USB, though my Sound “card” (Sound BlasterX G6) is… I have no other Sound Devices active. Before this I used on-board (Realtek) and a Logitech USB headset, but have been using the G6 uneventfully for many months…

@Tumbler31 said in Just updated - now I get the dreaded "Could Not Create Device on Adapter" error..:
@Icer it worked and now it doesn’t anymore? That’s curious, did you change something in between?
And please share the full dump and post post the text file logs files here, I might have a look on my phone
Ok, bit the bullet and ran the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU v18.0.5.2) completely cleaning out all NVidia drivers\registry\etc., then ran NVCleanstall 1.13.0 to install the drivers\PhysX\NVidia HDMI sound. Now my sound display is: .
Have no idea what it fixed, but now 4.36.1 starts up again, I’ll let you know if its temporary or not…

Like my favorite boomerang, error is back. All I did was update Win11, going to reboot to see if it clears but WTH… Wondering now if it has anything to do with my HP G2v2 VR headset being plugged in (but turned off)… And lo and behold a reboot allows me to start BMS… sure would be great to KNOW why this is happening…

@Icer when this error occurs – confirm, you’re still getting audio from the SBX-G6 device? (youtube etc all work ok?)
Start / Run / “DevMgmt.msc” … no yellow flags, errors or warnings on the device?
Next time it happens, maybe try disable/reenable from devmgmt UI, in lieu of rebooting. Just to potentially narrow down if that driver is a cause.

Hiya @airtex2019 - Error is back today, starting to think it may be something to do with using my VR Headset between staartups but I digress…
To your points-
Yes, sound works fine in YT before and after I get the error.
No yellow flags or errors in Device Manager (for anything)
“Disable Device” then “Enable Device” for Sound BlasterX G6, same error.I also have listed (Under Sound, Video, Game Controllers) the "Nvidia High Definition Audio, Realtek USB2.0 Audio, and Sound BlasterX G6. I disabled all but the G6, same error. I then disabled the G6 and tried it, BMS splash screen appears and then CTD’s with no error. Then uninstalled the Realtek, enabled the G6, same error is back… will reboot with VR headset turned off, see what I get.
Rebooted, starts right up…
Ok, may be on to something. Ran a VR (Steam) sim and exited, went back to start BMS and got the adapter error again! Maybe it’s detecting and trying to Start the VR (HP G2v2) adapter?
EDIT: Rebooted, VR off, BMS starts right up.

Your VR headset might create a virtual audio device to mirror the desktop audio (I know virtual desktop does that with my quest2)
I wonder if that audio device isn’t destroyed properly after you used it.
Might be something to investigate…
