Solved Reduce internal engine sound
-
@BVT_9 yup… that is correct.
Just fyi , “ecsloop” is middle part of 3 part sequence, start/loop/end…
I haven’t noted the others , since “start” and “end” are short-lived , few secs, turn on , turn off … loop is the one active 99% of the time
so… if you want “consistency” , then edit volume in those 2 also -

@spooky oh yeah, tell me 'bout it
but, let me remind you all, - you’re not flying f16 or any post vietnam war fighter jet airplane , without helmet
how ecs can be heard then ? … of course go-pros and all recording recording devices are NOT wearing one … so , you see the point ?No I don’t see the point except that your expectation of what the reality is is wrong.
What you hear the most in the jet is the ECS and the external airflow on canopy, not the engine.
Feel free to say that you don’t like it ion game and prefer music … but you may trust a bit more the ones who have r/l experience of it and spent hundreds of hours trying to provide something realistic.EDIT: And yes , you hear the same with helmet on, and with earplug, even with ARN , the the three together also … the only difference is the Radio vs noise ratio.

Damn… busted!!
I agree with you, BMS had this trend “as real as it gets” , sometimes not perfectly, and not to our liking, but , oh, I DO RESPECT this.
Kind of modeler trend, you know 1:72Now you’ve mentioned music, leave ecs for a bit, … new UFC HARM thingy broke Winamp control when activated.
When using ufc harm , moving cursor , step next/prev … you also control winamp coincidently… I guess MavJP forgot about that, as winamp control is also on MISC - 0 - 0.
No big deal, I assigned shortcuts for winamp directly , so avoided it like that, just fyi.
Cheers

/data/sounds/F4SndTbl.textprotoset maxvol to -something , -2200 is default
sfx_defs { filename: "Cockpit\\ecsloop.ogg" max_dist: 99999 max_vol: -2200 min_vol: -10000 primary_flag: INTERNAL_SOUND secondary_flags: LOOP secondary_flags: HIGH_PRIORITY sound_group: GROUP_COCKPIT cone_outside_vol: -2200 index: 411
hello, did this work for you,and still able to turn up rwr?
thx
also did you put a number at max volume or " -something"
i assume a number,say 5000. -
@oldtommyboy It did for me
I have ecsloop.ogg, ecsstart.ogg and ecsend.ogg now set to:max_vol: -9000
min_vol: -10000 -
@BVT_9 thankyou
-
@oldtommyboy
Yes, it must work (for all cases) as you’re attenuating a “base volume/loudness” for a certain sound, rather then some master vol.
(think of it as a base sample/instrument volume rather then whole orchestra master vol )Of course, then you can amplify master cockpit sounds vol some more … just need to find some suitable loudness, a bit try and error - as it is perceived subjectively… but procedure is sane and all… it won’t break something.
Cheers
-
@white_fang thankyou.
Well i set the 3 setting to 7000, didnt help much.
I,ll try 9000 tomorrow.
Now i do have my cockpit and rwr jacked up in the settings page,internal engine noise to one and earplugs in .
So we,ll that try tomorrow.
ThxOh,do i need to edit the other file too,
Cant remember its name right now. -
Hmm , did you mean -9000 (with a minus). ? (It must be minus in front, must!!!)
- but that is also one mysteries of old time , in code was mentioned that sample volume won’t be amplified if volume is positive , so only negative values , … so I guess , that was the reason I never tried positive values … since I was always interested in attenuating , rather then amplifying , … so I don’t know how/what would positive values give for a result … eg. 0 is “clean” sample loudness , original volume of sample
Yes , you need to edit only the new “proto” file , the old one (f4sndtbl) is not used as of 4.36 and , “preferably” all 3 values ecsStart/loop/end - so it has some consistency.
-
@white_fang ok thanks again,yes i had the minus in there,sorry didnt mention that .
Yeah i edited all three start loop end.
Check at -9000 tomorrow.
And ok on the old file. -
@white_fang well,apparently thats not my problem.
Still to loud,i even set it to -10000, still there .
Turned internal engine sound all the way down.
Turned cockpit and rwr all the way down, still there.
So whether its the winds effect on the jet or/and the engine noise, im sure,just cant seem to tone it down.
It definitely gets louder the faster you go.
Yes i know its suppossed to be that way but for some reason in my headphones its extremely loud.
Im all for realism, i even try to mostly use in cockpit switches,that ,my hostas and now foxvox,i never touch the keyboard once in sim.
Maybe just my hearing,as it is bad. O well.
Thanks.Edit, also realized you must edit that file in all theaters .
-
@oldtommyboy … Ha, yes. Edit the proto file for theater you’re flying … as “Sounds” dir is theater dependent … every theater “can”! have its own sounds.
Did it work now ??
- Btw, that what are you referring could be different sound then ECS.
Think it is “AOA” sounds or “buffeting”. … IF it is influenced by airspeed when flying… won’t hear them when still on the ground. - In 4.35 … I had to reduce those AOA sounds also… as they were quite loud., especially in Harrier
- Btw, that what are you referring could be different sound then ECS.

@white_fang hello again sir.
Well scince update 2, i havent even flown yet .
I uninstalled everything,reinstalled bms only and have only had time to reapply all my settings and a quick te just to make sure my settings work .
Havent made any adjustments to sound,just in the ui.
Might get a flight in today hopefully.Edit,so i started a campaign, took a flight,anything over around 350 knots,it just gets louder and louder.
Maybe its just my hearing now, dont know.
Definitely not saying anything bad or something wrong in sim !!
O well,might just have to give up on headphones. -
@oldtommyboy maybe this is the file that is causing you grief. It was for me. Sometimes so loud I couldn’t hear the radio comms. So I made an edit and now much better for me.
Go to your Falcon BMS 4.36\Data\Sounds\Common and find the file named airflowcanopy.ogg rename it to something else, like airflowcanopyA.ogg then paste in the file in this link and rename it to airflowcanopy.ogg.
Let me know if that helped.
-
@Badger thanks,i,ll give it a try.
im assuming when i rename your file,adding the ogg is not nessesary because the orginal and all the others dont add ogg to the file. -

-
@Badger yep,thats what i did.thx
dont know when i,ll get a chance to take a flight.
next day or 2 i hope. -
@Badger ok, my golly i think that did it, have to check again tomorrow.
i did notice it also changes the volume in the ui, the external engine sounds and sound effects, both of which i can turn up now and not blast my eardrums.
gonna check that again tomorrow though.
awesome,finally,hopefully so i can use the headset.
thankyou thankyou thankyou,it was driving me nuts. -
@oldtommyboy your very welcomed. Glad that it worked for you.
-
@Badger damn old age,fogot i had to do this in each theater.sheesh.
