Tomcatz SAM factory

The first video is very impressive, but as I see practical application is very, very far.

TY for all your hard work Tom! Incredible stuff I am thoroughly impressed!

Again I think your work is great, and I would hate for your effort to go to waste.
Same here … I really love that work!!! … Unfortunately, will be not included if no effort is made to optimize polycount to comply with team recommendation.

There’s along way to go….
Tomcatz Kub - Radar with the 3D side panels replaced by a photo texture.
Animation wise I tested a simple model based off the existing BMS Straight Flush L1 (exported with lod3dsconv.exe) and it stowed/unstowed (switch 0) and had a working search radar (LongBow script - dof 5). I used Dof 0 and xdof1 for the command radar to track the aircraft (IMHO close enough to tracking the missile) but it looks like it needs a DB edit (the model works fine when used in place of the KS-19).

Great- looks good. :headb:

Just an update as I continue to plod away at the Straight Flush.
The L1 low poly model is about finished and has come down from tomcatz original 17k to 3.3k
The base unit uses 2300 tri, the active radar 1000 tri and the stowed radar another 1000 - so in 3ds max it sits at 2300+1000+1000=4300 tri
In game it only ever draws one version of the radar so will processes about 3300 tri for the L1 model.
I’ve done about 80% of the panel lines and am working on the L1 textures/skins before moving on to the L3 Model.
The textures are of rather low quality by modern standards but I’ll include the photoshop psd when finished so they can be improved or adapted to other theaters.
My intention is to use switch 0 to disable the SA-6 TELs Dof’s when moving (that will be some time off yet) but the DB/exe will need to be updated before the SA-6 units stop radiating/launching on the move.

NICE job Ramsay!!!

That could be a GREAT news … !

+100
If you do that for all Tom’s models, they will be included in the original release and be part of the Falcon DB forever (well that is until we are too old to fly it, like for example BD or RAM )

Does this mean that will you upgrade all of stuff of Tom? I did long time ago skinning, but if nobody volunteer, I offer my skills. Maybe I can ask about SAMsim guys about different paintings of WPC. Maybe more than one skin can be made for different theaters. (ITO, Korea, etc.)

Thanks for undertaking this task. Would it be possible for you to also check the general dimensions of the models? Some of them, especially the aircraft, do not seem proportioned correctly. I know TomCatz used a blueprint, but it is possible it was drawn incorrectly on the print.
Cheers.

Great effort, Ramsay.
Cheers,

Oh wow! Great job! You taking command now

Very impressive !!!

Tom has produced lots of models, it would probably take me years to get all the L1-L4 Normal/Destroyed models and skins together for them. My plan is to do the one’s I’d like first (if no one is already working on them) and get them upto standard and ploy count one at a time so that if RL gets in the way what is produced is useable.

Thanks for offering but the initial model building and skinning is an iterative process as the design of the model (poly’s) determines the skin (UV map) and visa versa.

Prehaps you will add one for Korea 80’s
I decided to go with a reduced res texture just so skins would be simple. If all goes well there will be a photoshop CS5 “paint kit” psd to go with the model(s). So it can fit in with other models and Add-on Theaters.
I have 3 skins wip - the Czech Camo pictured, a Hayab themed (T55 Green) version and a plain desert type suitable for ITO, etc. The last 2 are simple base colour, tyre wall and decal changes.

Cheers. This is all very new to me (hence why I’m doing it), I too am uncertain of the dimensions of the GU’s - google is very informative on the dimensions of the 3M9 missile but not so much on the TEL’s which is why I found TomCatz model a good place to start. As a noobe I’m starting with the GU’s first, once I’ve got the skill set, I’ll prehaps look at TomCatz aircraft if there is demand but, usually, aircraft are pretty well served as that is where the interest is.

I meant if all of LOD issues are done and skinmap also is done I can make the skin(s). Yes, green + desert camo are required.
