@Icer @MaxWaldorf I think “RTFM” can be used in this situation.
Yes, i’ve spent countless hours over the years reading/learning and I still know (practically) nothing. I’m not sure how anyone could learn this sim without having some computer knowledge. Even using Alt Launcher requires a bit of understanding, and that’s the next step. He needs a US buddy that has a ton of patience and can take the time to walk him through all this…

I am sorry to bother all of you with my ineptitude. I will try another sim. Thanks again for all the help.

Your welcome.

@Hawkeye55 Dude just click on the .exe file in the pic you showed.
-
@Icer Guess he wasn’t really interested in playing Falcon then.

Can’t say, but 13 days ago we started to try and help, a few days ago a SUPER simple Install routine was presented by Max, but that still proved to be too much to actually read the instructions and follow them. There is no way in this world, if you refuse to put the time in, that this or any other simulator will be approachable without putting in the effort. Hand-holding is one thing, and trust me, I needed some when I picked up BMS 4.33 after 15+ years away, but this is at a point where you have to wonder if this all was a troll?
-
No troll, gents. Just an old man that has lost much of
computer knowledge I once had. Thanks to all again and after hitting the .exe file it installed but now it seems that it is not full screen.
My guess that the updates will take care of this?? -
@Hawkeye55 glad you persevered. The Menu will not be fullscreen. And most people like it that way, so they can manage other mission planning software at the same time. Try loading into a mission and see if it goes fullscreen in the actual sim.
-
@Hawkeye55 Looks as expected – the foundations here are from the late 90s so the 2D screens are all built for 1024x768. Modern displays tend to be much bigger.
(Yes these 2D menu screens desperately need to be rebuilt for modern displays… but BMS team are a small band of volunteers and haven’t yet rebuilt everything.)
Anyway, this is a mode called “borderless window” and it’s fine – when you launch into 3D experience, it will expand to fill your full monitor.

Maybe consider going to C:\Falcon BMS 4.36\Docs\BMS-User-Manual.pdf, open it, skip to Page 22 (as the new install routine has not been updated yet) and go from there. When you get to a point where you are stuck and the manual does not help, ask away!

@Hawkeye55 In the graphics options select full screen for full screen, window mode has the advantage of being able to minimize the game to see other open programs on your computer. If that fails choose a 1920x1080 60hz stretched output setting (for TV in my case)
Do not despair friend and be patient, falcon bms can be somewhat overwhelming at first, over time you will learn to use it without problem. Cheer up

Have a play around with the settings, especially the one highlighted here.
You can also do this to be able to move this 2D UI screen to where you want in your desktop. Select the “Windowed” option, then click APPLY. You will find that there is now a top border which you can use to drag the 2D UI to your desired location. Then go back and select “Borderless” again and click APPLY.
BMS is full of neat little things like these so don’t be afraid to experiment. Read the manuals. Come here for more questions. Remember to take note how to turn on NWS (nose wheel steering)!
ps. when I say “read the manuals,” it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to absorb and understand everything. BMS is a big, big sim, so take it one step at a time. What I mean is that there is usually a lot of documentation available, and that should be your first stop. It’s usually better to ask “I’ve tried ABC and read Section XYZ but still can’t get this to work, any help?” but you can also ask “I can’t get this to work, any help?” at which point you will normally get pointed to Section XYZ and told to come back when you get stuck, as you’ve seen the community do in your various threads. Help us help you.
Good luck!

@Hawkeye55 Nice setup! that 3080 and a UHD screen will give you a pretty nice and fluid experience with BMS. Enjoy.
-
@Fish44 Its @Atlas that has the 3080 not @Hawkeye55 . The screenshot crop is of Atlas’s setup.
-
@Hawkeye55 you gotta be kidding

OOPS, Well 3050 is pretty decent for BMS with 1080p. 1 step at a time @Hawkeye55

Hallo all,
this is my first posting, so let me say „Hallo“ at first.
A short first impression from my side:
For installation this week I have used the installation guide and the first postings from this thread. I must say, I’m a real rookie in handling of torrent-files. So the beginning of the installation was confusing for me because of the torrent-downloads, preparation in download-folder (I have seen, you can change it) and unzipping and … . And, to be honest, I can’t remember exactly in which sequence I have done the separate steps. After that I have had the normal setup.exe on my system and -surprise!- it was easy suddenly. The setup.exe has installed the base and the U1-3 without any downloads /handling from my side.
IMHO maybe it is possible to list the first actual steps in the installation guide, before the installation starts. The second surprise was Falcon 4.0. I have the old original Falcon 4.0 with the 2kg manual-book (such a thing you can’t imagine today …). And because of YouTube-videos and Google I did believe that the copy of my installation is enough for BMS-installation. But no! BMS has required the installation. Okay, no problem, I have done it and all was okay.
My first impressions: fantastic!!
And for a test I have installed the balkan-theatre yesterday; no problem, it works.I have had Allied Force after Falcon 4.0. A good version for that time more than 15 years before, but too old simply and so I haven’t used Falcon 4.0 for some years. Result: I will have a lot of questions the next time. But of course I will read the manual(s) and try to find the answers there. I’m an offline campaign-player, I can integrate it better in my day. And at the first step I will stay on ground to learn all the buttons and functions (I’m sure, it will take more than one evening).
Wish you a nice weekend!

@SledDog01 Hello, welcome to falcon BMS, I recommend that in addition to reading the manuals, watch tutorials on YouTube, there are many interesting channels where they teach in a didactic way how to use weapons, procedures, etc. Greetings and good flight

@SledDog01 It is quite confusing at first for sure but you will get the hang of it at some point. If you’ve installed via the new “all-in-one” method, it might be a good idea to learn how to install via the old method if you have the time. I would not expect the “all-in-one” method to be available right after a new update drops… unless a dev wants to correct me here??.. so learning how to do it the old way means you can take advantage of the new Update as soon as it becomes available.
Welcome and ask away! Most helpful replies will point you to specific sections of the manual or you can even say which parts you’ve read and how you’re having issues to get more specific help.

Certainly do not speak for the Dev’s, but not sure why they would take a step backward since “C:\Falcon BMS 4.36\Updater.exe” will (I assume) update you to the latest version easily?
