Checklist for Quick reference 4.37
-
Hi guys
I was wondering about the BMS checklist and the amaze job the team did with the docs and I realized I need something more direct, like the checklists in civil aviation. Something that could cover everything in just one or two pages to be read quickly, so, I dared to make my own F16 checklist to be used in the pilot kneeboard.
I am NOT saying that the checklist available in BMS is wrong. On the contrary. However It works more like a SOP than a checklist if I am to compare with civil airplanes: it EXPLAINS what to do. And its ok, we have a lot of people new to aviaton coming to BMS. It has to be this way.
However, A checklist (in civil aircrafts anyway) just “ask” if you have done what is supposed to be done. It is a reminder to see if you didn’t forget anything IMPORTANT. What civil pilots do is a SCAN FLOW by memory and then read the checklist (for normal operations only, in case of failures the checklist is read and do).
For exemple, it is not necessary to “get the ATIS” writen in the checklist because It is pretty obvious, you need the airport conditions to prepare your flight (however, you will have it writen in the SOP ). Guys, You know how to set your instruments by memory or how to perform your flight controls check right?. The checklist is just a list to check if everything has been done and, in case of something is missing, you can correct it then. Who never have forgoten a Master Switch OFF or a LASER DED set during the FANCE IN? (I do this all the time, thats why I need a check list .)I am saying “civil aviation” because I don’t know how it works in the military. I don’t know if they have scan flows or check lists like this, but it works for me and maybe works for somebody else. Who knows….
So, how does it work?
EDIT:
(I refactored the entire checklist based in some issues and I came to 2 approaches a Checklist and a Quick Checklist. The link to the older one will remain available.)
1 - I tried to follow the sequence listed in the checklist done by @Micro_440th and his team (not 100% thought).
2 - There are two checklists now:- The “Checklist” tries to follow the procedures as close as to real life. This one fits more to people who likes to do a precise simulation (i.e: keep RDR ALT in STBY until taxing to avoid injures to the chief).
- The “Quick checklist” is meant to be used for people who wants to jump in the cockpit and do a quick RAMP START assuming that the other switches and Selectors are in the proper position (BMS Default) and are not worried to turn everything ON before taxi (Sorry Chief!).
3 - The SCAN FLOW idea changed a little bit too, now it starts from the furthest panel on one side and stops at the front panel, then it starts from the other side and stops again at the front panel. This way you can concentrate all your attention to the front panel as all system panels (left and right) are already set. (see picture below)
4 - Many things are missing from the CL, like ATIS, some checks, ATC contact, retract landing gear, set radios and altimeters, set SMS, etc… because you are supposed to do this by memory. Only key things are in the checklist, most of it, relating to panels setups. Generally, things that could put the flight in danger or spoil your mission.Feel free to change it, share it, do whatever you like. Any comments or suggestion is appreciated. If you see something wrong, please, let me know.
Cheers!

am saying “civil aviation” because I don’t know how it works in the military.
In military, checklists are known by heart.
Emergency items are performed as “to do” list, then … when time permits, checklist is consulted to ensure no item have been forgotten.
