[VR] "My legs are small and my cockpit is tiny" fix
-
@Dee-Jay agreed. I would say in the Reverb G2 the MFDs at even 100% still are noticeably bigger than my TM MFDs. I am doing a little of what you are suggesting with my look under mod even though I don’t have a 1:1 cockpit, it’s close in the MFDs and ICP.
But then again, they mostly match in the Quest 2, and the Pimax has too many different settings right now to say. Also, unfortunately agree that DCS has it right But I would also point out they still don’t have a pilot model to make it a little difficult.
I feel like this is the photo that is most like the BMS legs, camera position obviously lower and to the left some, but kind of surprised by it:
BMS legs have the lower G-Suit pockets filled so makes the shins a little more visible plus higher perspective than picture.Seat height and pedal adjustment maybe coming into play with this too. Pedals may not be able to actually be used here to full forward, adjusting them back would make the knees sit higher.

Don’t. This is the initial BMS VR release. Should be improved with time.

^This.

Possible.

With a Quest Pro, using wired Link, setting SteamVR > Settings > Per Application > Falcon BMS > World Scale to 125% makes the scale seem about right, but…
I’ve tried setting the Per Application world scale for three different .exe files. The Alternate Launcher, the “regular” Launcher, and the Falcon BMS.exe itself. But, even though I have all three applications set for 125%, I only get the scale adjusted correctly if I run the “regular” Launcher.
Any idea what might be going on, or how to launch this from the Alternate Launcher and still get the adjusted world scale?
-
@tanr open per-application settings only from 3D (instant action for example), it should automatically open the right exe (or select from the top of the list). You won’t see the world scale changing live, adjust the value -> exit 3D -> enter 3D again to check how it looks and adjust again if needed.
-
@Dragasath - That’s the odd thing with this. I’ve set the per application world scale to the “current application” while in BMS in VR in 3D, which has given me different possible applications (two SteamVR shows with the name BMS, a third with the name Falcon BMS 4.37) depending on how I launched BMS. But exiting out of VR and SteamVR, and running BMS again, it is only if I launch it from the non-alternative launcher that I ever get the world scale that I set.
I’m guessing this is more of a SteamVR or Windows issue, than BMS, but hoped someone had run into this and had a workaround.

This…

This is epic thank you! Hopefully it will be included in the default launcher in the future

Hey guys… just revisiting this as I’m trying to learn more about setting up my VR correctly. Can someone please show me a before and after picture of the cockpit at 100% scale and 120% scale? I’ve tried mine at 100% and even bumped up to 150% and I don’t really notice any difference. Using a G2. Thanks!

Screenshots are one eye only. You can’t really see a difference on a flat screen.
-
@LorikEolmin I can’t really see a difference in 3D either, or I just don’t know what effect I’m expecting or looking for?

You feel smaller if you increase the scale. Of course, it works if both of your eyes are working together.

Finally tried 125% scaling in the Reverb G2. Legs are now the right size, but the rest of the cockpit is definitely too big, it makes the F-16 way off to me (probably by 25%) It feels like a far bigger fighter like an F-15 now. I can somewhat measure this too, looking under the VR to the home cockpit’s MFD and ICP the VR ones are very noticeably bigger.
-
And with Pico 4 they are about 1:1 size with 125% , so its different settings for different VR goggles??
-
@haukka81, you have physical MFDs and/ICP at about the correct distance? A lot of people have their MFDs closer than actual if just desk mounted.
I really think it’s resolution or aspect ratio tied, because the scaling will look very different with the myriad of those you have with the Pimax 8kX.

@Atlas
The first time I tried the fix, I was in cockpit in VR and I didn’t notice any change either. I tried it again with the game closed, bumped to 125%, relaunched the game in VR, and the change was VERY noticable. -
@Boiler Nope, definitely don’t see it. Closed the game and shut off the PC last night at 125%. Did a flight this evening. Then closed everything, restarted SteamVR, set it to 100% (or rather, turned it off), reboot the PC. Did the same flight, maybe the cockpit is smaller but really difficult to tell and may just be placebo. Reboot the PC again, start up BMS, still not seeing any difference. Closed everything, restarted SteamVR, set it to 125%. Reboot PC. Start BMS. Not noticing any significant difference.
EDIT: I’ve set it to 200% and I do see a difference now. I guess 125% was just too subtle for me to notice.

OK I read this thread and it seems to most all here that 100-125% World scale seems right to most. but in mine I set my world scale to 180% and then it seemed like it should be.
I am trying to determine why I have such a big differenece in my world scale compared to most here. I had it at 125% and it did seem to tiny still.
I am thinking maybe something amis with my G2 or something, I just don’t understand why my scale needs to be so much higher to make it look correct?
-
With Pico 4 and 180% it’s family size viper
-
Note that U1 includes:
- set g_fVRIPDMultiplier 1.0; // adjust world scale, default = 1.0.
So you won’t have to use SteamVR work around for the scale if you don’t want to. apparently. Thanks BMS team, probably @chihirobelmo!

“My legs are small and my cockpit is tiny” is NOT a bug.
It is a FEATURE.Last week, I spoke to a RL Viper pilot (callsign “Stumpy”) who is quite short and surprisingly obese.
I asked him about this BMS bug, and he said: “VERY realistic. MY legs are small and - with a BMI of 39.9 - my cockpit is tiny.”
Mark this thread = SOLVED.
