Air defense relocation
-
Can we relocate air defense systems? I want to move patriots closer to the frontline. How can I do it?
-
Make sure your patriot battailon is located near an airbase.
Then you can move them with an AIRMOBILE flight.Start by moving the mouse cursor onto your desired battalion.
Click “add package”, choose AIRMOBILE and pick a couple of C-17s.Click OK and you will see a flight plan with two action steerpoints (triangles) - one should automatically be where the battalion has to be picked up, and the other one can freely be moved to another desired airport.
Keep in mind - the patriots must only be moved either to another airport or a SAM site, otherwise they will quickly run out of supply.
When you see the C-17s depart from the pickup point, you will still see the battalion on their original place UNTIL the C-17s have arrived at the drop zone.
Then they will show up correctly.
Good luck. -

I didn’t know about this little detail, thanks for clarifying!

@spotdott
Yeah, neither did I, before I learned it the hard way -
@Amadeus75 can it be close to an airbase? Also can it be an airfield that is currently unoccupied by any squadron?

I’ not sure, sorry. I would have to check it myself.
But “unoccupied” should work in any case.
The absence of a squadron does not mean the absence of a ground crew. -
I think you can also do this with Mission Commander, but it’s been quite a while. I know I moved a battery that was on my runway in Balkans to a position nearby defending a power plant using MC…
-
Airdefence units can be moved during a running campaign. One option would be with MC.
Couple of things to remember.
- An AD unit works “on its own” so does not need a squadron to be at an airbase.
- AD units will only stay and operate at an Objective which is SAM capable. This means the respective flag has to be ON for the Obj.
No need for a user to change this!!!
Normally only Objectives where you would expect SAMs to be located have this flag set. Like Airbases, SAM sites, some Armybases.
If the Objective is NOT sam capable, like a factory for example, the campaign engine will start to move them to an Obj which is.
- Also you can’t have many Battalions on stationary at one Objective.
This applies to the static SAMs like SA-2, 3, 5 or patriot.
Mobile SAMs which are included in a tank battalion (SA-8, 13) are not affected by this. With MC you have 2 options.
- Move to, which places the Battalion right away.
- Travel to, which gives the order to move there.

Definitely possible.
But, well it’s just my opinion, this kind of “intervention from a god’s perspective” will never be the same fun as imagining how the units are actually stuffed into an airplane and carried along over some hundred miles. Also, in many cases, vehicles on the runway can as well be pushed aside on the 2D map.
I’m happy as long I have to use MC as “ultima ratio” only -

Not completely god, but a battle commander

I have tried to move them instantly by mission commander but save file gave an error, so I think the best way is to move them with airmobile.

What error?

It would be a very nice future updated to model the slow relocation capability of deployed SAMs like SA-2/3, HAWK or PATRIOT. If they stay alive long enough in any campaign.
A better relocation capability of the mobile SAMs with readiness time and packing + deployment “hard locks”.

@Falcas I don’t remember exactly but when I tried to open save file a pop up window occured with a error message. This doesn’t happen if I order them to move via MC. But moving them instantly results with error at least in Bear trap campaign.

Very likely it has not been an error. As not every message is an error and usually its information

I did this back in Sept 2011 in 3.34 using this guide by “Cantoo” (is he still active?) It may work now.

I believe it still works the same, I tried it in 4.35 IIRC…

@Falcas I tried to do it again and it worked without problem. Probably I have done something wrong in first case. Thanks
