Regarding AI wingmen

. AI will not attack ground targets if there is an overcast.
That is absolutly incorrect statement.
most of the issues have been solved in 4.37.3
Equip them with capable equipment for high altitude bombing with clouds (That is to say NOT laser weapons or TV weapons), if overcast is high enough, they will fly below , else they will tell you 'unable"
you can also order them to attack from low altitude with High drag bombs or popup if overcast is high enough

I was flying with AI wingman in different scenarios.
As flight lead, after a mission I gave a return to base call when we were clear from the target area. The AI wingmen went their way and after that became unresponsive to any radio calls, In the debrief, they were all listed as KIA. No air to air to air to ground threat and sufficient fuel. Is this normal?
As number two, with AI as lead and the element as AI, I notice the following. After 1, 2(me) and 3 had refueled, AI lead just went to the next stpt leaving 4 behind to refuel. Anyone seen this happening?
not , that would be a bad bug, need a repro case please
Lead AI do not give push tanker frequency or make the refuel call. Is it possible to make AI lead to give the push tanker frequency and make the tanker refueling call?
AI does not tell to push to tanker indeed , this can be fixed easily. They do make the tanker refueling call though …Stay with tanker frequency you will see all AI leads are making the cal
AI lead does not give reference heading and turns at will. All the rest of the AI wingmen knew where AI lead is going to or heading to. Is it possible to make AI to give reference heading or stpt. This may be difficult during air to air engagement. Maybe up till the point of the push or target steerpoint?
It has been envisaged at some point, but in real , there are no such calls…so no.

I can confirm that they do make the call. But you need to know when the tanker frequency is switched to, so a statement of change of frequency would help a lot. Datalink with the AI only works on UHF6, so you stay on 6 for as long as possible, especially at night.

True, lead would not tell you how to match his speed and attitude. But a lead would most likely say “reference steer 3” or something similar. Which would indicate that he is about to set up for the next leg

@igorry Hi,Igorry. I’m with jayb on this. I’ll occasionally fly as #2 for formation practice, but we shouldn’t expect too much with AI as Lead. Frankly, I’m always amazed how well BMS gets the AI to function as wingmen.
As Dos Gringoes would say" We’re the wingmen…we’re just gonna stand here 'til you tell us what to do" -
Absolutely agree that the AI already does incredible feats on its own.
In summary though, I suggested that AI lead could announce:
- Changes to UHF frequency
- Changes to active steerpoint
I believe that would bring more realism and immersion, since any human lead would do the same

They do announce the push on approach , issue for now is that we don’t have all frags but we can generate them now
It’s a lot of work for a very edge case though (it’s rare that players plays as wingmen)

I agree, it is an edge case. A bit under-utilized though for some offline formation and tanker pattern practice. I usually argue that if you can follow the AI in formation, you can follow anyone

@Mav-jp
Indeed, it seem to too common, due to a need to nurse AI trough the mission, but having AI flight leader capable of at least basics of the arcane would be a true testimony to Falcon and BMS.
In my very early Falcon4 days (circa late 1999) I 've tried to do career mode, where I take #2 or #4 spot as least experienced pilot in the squadron, planning to take a element once I get promoted to 1st Ltn and flight lead once I became captain.
Being able to do so would be totally awesome. -

Thanks for the correction. In my head I was thinking “laser guided weapons” but this did not translate to my post. My apologies.

Thanks to you and to all for your reply and interest. I must say I am very happy with the AI and ATC. It is really immersive to hear the AI calling out for change to certain frequencies like departure, tactical, approach frequencies. Having the AI call out the change for the tanker frequency will add more the immersion which is already really good. After that the AI will need to give a call to push to the tactical frequency. The other call for the AI lead to call out may be the call to fence in and fence out.
Regarding reproducing the 4th wingman being left behind, this is a tactical engagement flight in the Nevada theatre. I see this every time when I fly this TE as number 2. I see it also when I fly in another 2 ship flight and see this 4 ship flight leaving number 4 behind. It is possible that 1,2,3 are rushing to get to the push point in time.
Having the AI lead to give reference steerpoints in certain situations would also be add to the immersion.
Thanks for all the wonderful work done, anything else is a bonus!
Igorry.
