[VR] "My legs are small and my cockpit is tiny" fix
-
@Snake122 please Snake, have patience… the team have listened !
-
@qawa and there’s my #1 suspect! Again, I want to be clear, I feel like there is less wrong with the BMS cockpits than some in this thread. They truly are a great start. But to be fair to those in this thread that want the 125% scaling on the Viper cockpit, etc., it’s still your sim experience, do what you like! I just don’t want a unrealistic expectation that there is a “standard” feeling cockpit across different aircraft.
-
@Snake122 I just talk about F15C, yes there is too much distance between the pilot seat and the front cockpit… I’ve fixed this… and added pilot legs with kneepads… there are team members that works on the kneepads pages. So nothing from me about F16 or VR… isn’t my job… so ignore my message if it is outside the discussion, please

As one of the people who started this, I feel like we can’t make ourselves clear on describing the issue. In my case I will blame it on English not being my first language.
Is not a matter of preference or expectations. Is -probably- a matter of configurations and set-ups that result in the F-16 cabin being too small and the F-15 one being too big.
I play many other VR games so I know how your virtual dimensions have to be and in this case is not right. In the F-15 you feel like a 12-year-old and in the F-16 you feel like a giant. I’m not talking about MFD distance or size, but the flight controls are just too small, as everything else in the cabin is. Changing the scale solves this and, considering only few of us have this issue, I don’t think the devs have to do much about it other than, If possible, adding the scale option in-game so is easier for us to change it instead of having to do it outside the game.

@Ferde I think it’s more than that - the f16 cockpit is a little bit off in VR, in ways that can be improved by scaling but not entirely fixed. Eg the throttle is very small when compared to the flight stick. The speed brake indicator can’t be seen in the default seated position. The MFDs touch the ankles etc.
It’s not horrendous, and scaling a bit makes it completely usable, but I’m with snake, I think the 2D model translated to VR has highlighted some inconsistencies in the model.
-
In my experience, in VR the F-16 cockpit is a bit small; the F-15 and AV8B are very large.
I’m talking about the “VR perceived dimension”.
A different problem can be the model issue (legs too high, throttle too tiny etc…)
sorry for my english. -
@Snake122 said in [VR] "My legs are small and my cockpit is tiny" fix:
set g_fVRIPDMultiplier 1.0; // adjust world scale, default = 1.0
Has this parameter been removed. I do not see it. I currently use the world scale in SteamVR. Thanks
-
@Dracfalcon don’t see it in your falcon bms user.cfg or the Technical Manual/VR Guide (because it isn’t listed there, but that sometimes happens).
I honestly haven’t tried with 4.37, add it and give it a smaller number for a bigger cockpit, .75 seems to be a popular setting. -
@Snake122 Copy…so just add that line in the VR section.
-
Don’t use the cfg line, use SteamVR parameter. Source @I-Hawk

@LorikEolmin steamvr world scale doesnt work for me on pico 4 or Rift S. I tried many times to get it to work it just doesnt and on the Rift S you absolutely need a larger cockpit for reasonable clarity. The only way for me adjust the cockpit to size is set g_fVRIPDMultiplier 0.7
Just FYI

SteamVR is currently the way I do it. Is there any reason for not using the cfg line method?
-
@1508AD it works as long as you have added BMS to the steam Vr library. You shouldn’t need a bigger cockpit to make it readable on the rift s, but you definitely do want more resolution. I run mine at world scale 107% and resolution in the region of 2200x2200

“Enabling such scaling cause issues not only with sky now but also terrain (buildings sunk and getting out as getting close to them)”
“People that needs scaling, better do it by headset tools” -
@LorikEolmin I will continue to use SteamVR then. Thanks

Just wanted to put in my 2 cents here, while the F-16 looks generally ok, the other cockpits like the F-15 seem too big. I brought my steamVR scaling back down to 100% hoping it would fix the Eagle but it still feels off. Hopefully we get some more tweaking here as the VR and 3d models get tuned!
Still, one of the best VR flight experiences out right now, and 3d really does bring attention away from some of the more dated aspects of the graphics (looking forward to seeing them updated in U4 and 4.38!!)
-
@Mike-0 The F-15 cockpit IS huge compared to the Viper though. It should feel massive.
-
@SOBO-87 Yes obviously the F-15 is larger than an F-16. This is not a matter of the size of real cockpits, the scale of the cockpit does not look correct relative to the other 3d models. look at the flightstick or the Ejection seat (which btw, both aircraft uses an ACES II, so its not like one should “feel massive” compared to the other in THAT particular regard) The cockpits are not scaled properly to each other, and as a result, cannot be tweaked using SteamVR scaling without messing up the other. This will need to be fixed eventually.
