@repvez OMG yet another meme/video that doesn’t understand the whole “Mentos in Cola” reaction, so they just chose classic Coca-Cola.
(not surprised you found this, when I did a quick google search, nearly 100% of the memes/video links had thumbnails showing regular Coke)
It is Diet Coke which has the most violent and visual reaction with Mentos due to the aspartame sweetener as opposed to the sugar/corn syrup in regular Coca-Cola. Something about nucleation, as famous as the Mythbusters episode was it is surprising how many click-bait videos on YT seem oblivious to this important fact.

@SemlerPDX This, my friend is an eye opener. Thank you soo much for clarification.
I knew about Cola and Mentos since my high school years nearly 30 years ago, but never got to such thorough details about aspartame and nucleation. I do watch the videos on YT with my kids now when they add some dishwashing serum to the mix to create a foamy chemical reaction…
I always wondered though do they use regular Coke and does Pepsi make the same result.Looks like this thread is getting some very practical and knowledge expanding proportions.
Much appreciated and though this may sound I’m sarcastic I can assure you I am totally honest, at least with regards to CocaCola meme commentary.

@bbostjan There is also something to be said about “cola into mentos” versus “mentos into cola”. When we swiftly pour any cola, this agitation causes a rapid release of the infused CO2 - so doing so into a bucket of mentos, the foamy liquid is already in a rapid release state and will make less uniform contact with the mentos surfaces. This would result in a less violent reaction regardless of the type of cola used, even Diet Coke with its aspartame sweetener.
Also something to be said about the original concept which was a plastic bottle of cola naturally reducing to a small opening in the lid – the rapid reaction was forced to shoot out of this one opening at higher pressure than just some open bucket which is more common in the memes and YT vids these days.
The very best reaction will always be dropping the mentos into still Diet Cola contained in a bottle with a smaller opening than the container holding the liquid.
Maybe a new YT video can go viral comparing these factors to demonstrate a truly violent reaction worthy of millions of views

@SemlerPDX Yeah it’s like when you turn 70, you find out there used to be so many old people around and now there are none any more.
