Bms or Falcon 4 allied force?
-
@m1tp2king Welcome!! First, realistic… Yes. Complex… eh, depends on your idea of complex. Coming from F4/AF, you will be somewhat familiar with the avionics and some systems. Let’s just say they are expanded upon… You will find some time learning these new “toys” you’ve been handed. The cockpit is darn near 100% clickable, so some time will be needed to assure you know where the pencil holder and stapler are in your office space BMS has always carried on the tradition of the F4 Dynamic Campaign. BMS supports the vanilla Korea Theater as well as Balkans and Israeli Theaters. Multiplayer is as always, find some friends to fly with. There are several communities that have regular flights, and some support a 24/7 server, like Veterans Gaming. As well as fun, I’ve made this a hobby of mine for over 20 years, so yeah, I’m having a blast

Hi. So at the moment I’m playing F4 allied force. I am looking at starting bms. What’s the difference? Does bms have 3d clickable cockpit? Does bms have a dynamic campaign? Music? Easy to use multiplayer?( because AF it’s a little tricky).
Any other description about what’s good about bms is appreciated. + is bms fun? Or really realistic and complex? If nothing else, the fact that BMS has a fully clickable 3D cockpit should be enough to get you to transition over from AF. Gone are the days of going to the 2D cockpit to do cockpit work then go to the 3D cockpit to build up SA and look around. I used to have a key bound to my HOTAS to switch between 2D and 3D in my AF days, no need for that now.
Not only that, but BMS is now also VR-capable!

If you just consider the gameplay, I would discard the AF. It has missiles which are essentially immune to flares from, like AIM-9M and R-73 not mentioning the later missiles.
The BMS is about 100 times evolved over the AF. Yes, the avionics is pretty hard but as long as you just restrict yourself on dumb bombs, AGM-65, HARM, LGB you can learn as I can judge quickly the game. The foundations are the same just the BMS added many additional layers on top the old and crude avioncs modeling + on many areas.

Depends on what you are wanting to use each of the sims for - there are things that Allied Force definitely does better than BMS…surface threat reaction to counter tactics with HARM, and density of MANPADs are two I notice most.
OTOH - BMS is far superior to Allied force in terms of the modeling of F-16 systems. If you are more advanced in operating aircraft systems (and want to do it using more RL principles) you’ll far more appreciate BMS.
Personally, I have both on my machine…and fly both.
-
@Stevie hi. Stevie. What version of Windows do you have? Just interested to know if allied force works with windows 11.
-
@m1tp2king - I don’t have a machine that will run Win 11…yet. So I’m still running Win 10. I have some RL to deal with (retiring/moving - YAY!!!) and then I’m planning to do a PC build with an eye to being Win 11 forward.
But I wouldn’t see any reason that FAF shouldn’t work with Win 11…
-
Falcon AF had its time in the pasw, good years with that sim, but to present day… any other BMS version from OpenFalcon is much better
Not a big jump in the machinne needed to move one sim or other.
Simple BMS is the present, AF has no more to offer…
-
@m1tp2king
Have you tried BMS yet? -
Actualy there are some hidden features in AF, offering great things…but I agree, its for freaks and oldschoolers.
And for example my middle son is modding jediKniht II to hell, we have also grat fun with AvP2…no modern games can offer…
Truth is, that BMS is making the comunity here, its the most important. -
@Lukas - it depends on what you’re doing with it really…for one, I found that the threat reactions in the HARM mission are far more reactive to some of the things you may do with your radar than what BMS seems to do. And that the density of MANPADs in Allied Force is greater, considering how many folk on the forum haven’t figured out that terrain masking is a trap…
So depending on what you are trying to learn, each has its place.
-
@m1tp2kingWelcome… You will find a great community. Be and get involved. Dynamic campaigns and great theaters. Above all… a lot of work and passion behind
-
Someone is STILL flying Allied Force? For the MANPAD threat? Seriously, pay no attention to this joker……
LOL
you might as well compare it to flying BMS to Falcon 3.0…… yes it was great back in the day but it’s ancient history …
Allied Force is 19 years old with no updates and RIPPED OFF from the team that is now BMS…. It wasn’t even original work. What a joke.

These are some good arguments and a personal opinion. I don’t see the reason not to take them into the account.

I don’t understand why they try to revive a dead. I flew the AF for a long time and after BMS 4.32 AF was forgotten along with its community that completely migrated to BMS. AF has nothing that surpasses BMS even in 4.32, much less now 19 years later.
-
@bbostjan - Exactly. If I could take the best parts of all sims and put them together, I’d really have something indeed!
-
@VIPER-0 - actually, I still know of people that use FAF professionally, for the reasons I point out - matters of what you are wanting to do with the tool, and which tool is best suited.
And I keep all of my BMS installations on hand for the same reasons…the 4.35 release still being my favorite.
