ATC clearance gets cancelled after reporting final approach?
-
I usually do an unrestricted landing with either one wingman ai (he is automatically assigned to visual landing) or solo. However, sometimes my clearance gets cancelled right after declaring final. I push throttle all the way and get another unrestricted landing request, get assigned the very same runway and same thing happens again…
am i doing something wrong? i usually declare final at 1000ft @250kts and approximately 2-5nm away from the landing strip, after perfectly aligned to it. there is no visible traffic on the assigned runway or whatsoever…

@fegeleinn What’s the traffic situation like?

last time landing was cancelled there were two choppers took off from opposing runway (or flying above it?) and nearest aircraft was pair of a-10s >10nm from the airfield. assigned runway with taxiiways were clear all the way in.

@fegeleinn
How it looks in tacview. no-one is flying above af besides me too. -
@fegeleinn And does it happen on other airports too or only this one, whichever that one is?
-
Funny, that has happened to me on last two flights too. I just used request visual approach instead.
-
@razo it happens on the other airports and runways as well. seems random.

I just double check and keep landing anyways. So far i haven’t had a “happy little accident”

@fegeleinn Final is a call to Tower. Did you request landing from tower beforehand? Approach hands you over to Tower at some point at which point you are supposed to request landing (t-t-2)
-
Can you confirm it was the correct runway direction?
For example, if you are cleared for 36, and you approach from 18, you will get cancelled due to missed approach. -
@Amadeus75 it is indeed correct direction

Returning to your airbase and essentially telling ATC that you want immediate and exclusive use of the runway (requesting ‘Unrestricted Approach’) can be problematic if ATC is already busy trying to manage a busy runway with ongoing takeoffs and landings in progress. Often, it works. Sometimes, though, you’re just busting in on a busy runway and the ATC code will have issues trying to accommodate you.
I usually use ‘Unrestricted Approach’ like I’m a spoiled brat and I’m amazed I get away with it as often as I do. The ATC code is truly amazing, but it’s not infallible. I have to laugh when I’m cleared to land with a “Check gear down” and at the last moment a plane taxis onto the runway directly in front of me to take off. That’s happened to me several times.
Imagine telling a real world ATC guy, “Hey, I know you’re pretty busy with all these planes wanting to come and go, but I’m coming in right now, so get everybody out of my way.”
I expect (and get) amazing ATC code from @Mav-jp, but I don’t expect miracles.

I don’t see a reason why it shouldn’t be worth asking for unrestricted approach. The ATC guy will still be able to decide if “yes” or “no”.
But then again, he should simply say “no” more often before it causes a jam. -
As i see it, the “unrestricted” part is granted by Approach. Once you are handed over to Tower you need to request a landing. Based on the approach you have flown, ie. where you are at when you make the call, Tower should then say “no” more often if the airbase is too busy by some measure. Alternatively place you in a landing pattern where you are in a queue and must follow some speed+altitude that doesn’t mess up the queue.

There is no proper way for ATC to control unrestricted approach aircraft because ATC cannot know when the player will decide to land and what trajectory it will choose
Player can even ask for landing in any crazy position. If I deny player request if not perfectly inserted and in right place , it will be denied mostly all the time
So when you are doing an unrestricted approach , you can consider you are a ghost in the queue and anything can happen ( AI interacting with you in landing and or AI taking runway for take off)
Basically unrestricted approach are for players that don’t want to use ATC

In my opinion as a user, the BMS devs allow certain conveniences as a nod to the realities of the users’ available time to fly.
I love the ramp start, queueing up for takeoff, the mission itself, queuing up for returning, landing, finding my designated parking spot, shutting the jet down-- the whole thing. But the reality is that I only have so much time in the evenings to enjoy Falcon BMS, and I might want to fly two missions. So I take shortcuts, thanks to the BMS devs making that possible: I start Taxi instead of Ramp Start, which saves 20 minutes. I 4x the uneventful portions of the flight path. I ask for unrestricted landing to save another 10 minutes or so. The only reason I can take all these shortcuts is because the BMS devs make code available for me to do that. As a normal human being with just so many hours in the day, I appreciate it and understand that these shortcuts might incur some tradeoffs.

@Mav-jp Can I just ask something? If choosing Visual Approach we get vectored to a certain altitude, heading and speed. The Altitude number that the ATC hands out, is that AGL as read using the Radar Altimeter, or should it be ASL as per the QNH value?
Thanks!
