wow fantastic work…. very very nice…

I agree, black background should do the trick
BTW, this pit is going to make me by a Track IR for sure mate!!! great work! -
Hello!
Thanks for all the motivational material/comments guys! I thought I would give you a small update.
First thing is that I have been in contact with Molni, and as he requested, the pit is now integrated in his MOD! This is great news …now the pit will be at least released when his MOD is released so everybody will enjoy it. I don’t know how easy it will be to install his MOD but maybe a few people will find it easier than installing it via the LODeditor. This also means that he has all the parents installed in his campaign so future updates to the pit will be now quite easy to install…:D
Second…I´ve opened my files today and what a mess! I dont even remember what I was doing when I left it but I seem to have lost the UVW Unwrap of a couple of consoles!! Who knows what I was think of…:D Anyway not the end of the world.
And third! I started modelling a bit today !
I have never been too happy with the circular frame in the pit so I started from scratch today a new one to get me started. I’m hoping I’ll get something more realistic (the previous one was wayyyyy too big and far back), less poly, and also the double frame so I can animate the canopy opening and closing. Below is quick ingame shot of 3 hours work today…I think its already looking much better and the proportion is spot on. Its hard to tell because it has no texture but it also has more detail when it meets the windshield. This is only the fixed frame at the moment but I’m quite happy.
You can also see in the image the new functional landing gear panel…Im not too sure the symbols should be white over black or black over white. By how they look now (too shiny) I suspect the background should be black…What do you think?
Also I´ve done some testing with the realistic needles (you can see it in the distance-heading indicator) using alpha channel (also the airplane symbol in the ADI). I have one questionn…when using alpha channel its a bit odd that the shadows dont affect the needles…they are always shiny white even in the shadow…is this normal?
Have a great weekend!
Pepe
You are in the correct way mate, don’t let it go!
Thank you very much for your personal times and your hard efforts ;).
We all love what you are doing and we will wait you for your great work to be finished.

On Topic:
Thanks for the update! As a huge Naval aviation fan, I very much look forward to it’s release. -

Lower cost alternative?

Hello!

I’m happy to see you’re back in the saddle, Pepe.
Thank’s for your effort on this already great pit.

Lower cost alternative?
Free-Track. The software is free. The only cost is the hardware. I use the PS3Eye cam with a piece of negative film over the lens. The point model is made from a big black winged paperclip, some soft tube pen tubes, 3 SFH485P IR-LED lights, a resistor, and a USB wire that I spliced. No batteries, and uses wall outlet power. It clips onto a headset. I made a point model out of a hat too. Everything together was under 50 dollars. Would have been 40 if I did not need to buy a glue gun and solder kit.
Track-Ir is better, don’t get me wrong, but it is expensive. You can get about 90% of the results with Free-Track with about a third of the cost.

Looks great!! I won’t be able to give a final opinion until I can get a screenshot of the gun pipper supimposed on a MiG-29 cockpit. Shouldn’t be too difficult……

I am pissed I did not know there was a free version a long time ago! I have been Hat-Switching it for ages Track-IR would be better, but not by enough to make me want to shell out 159.00+shipping.
-
Some more work on the cockpit frame+details…happy so far
Have a great Saturday night guys!!
Pepe
PS: sorry for the low RES…no time to render!
-
hell yeah :headb:
this looks fantastic… (just a little detail: please don´t forget to model the look/shoot lights on the canopy frame <- yepp, I´m a F14 cockpit rivet counter :D)

Lovely.

I tried a face tracker last night, it uses the web cam for TIR simulation. Takes some time getting used to not using the hat though. I’ve been flying with hat and mouse look for decades. Twisting my head around feels weird
Landed on the carrier after 2 bolters. Crashed once in the Korean sea while pulling out of an egg to get a better angle on an F-5 -

No need to apologize, Pepe.
That picture is also interresting.
Great work, Pepe.

I tried all the non track ir systems myself…they just convinced me even more that i needed a proper track ir badly. Really happy with TIR5!
Dont worry ToS I have it in my long TODOs list! But not sure it will be functional though, I dont think there are any switches that can be used for this!

Wow! Getting closer to my 200th post in the forum! Scary
A small Sunday update from rainy West London…Got inspired by Bonedust update so I though I would give one myself!
Modelling of the cockpit frame/details is almost complete…missing still a few things. To get my head off modelling I started some texturing… I think its looking good!
Also the canopy opens and closes now which adds to the immersion and the “cool” factor (thanks to Wavey Dave for this as I was doing it wrong!). I love how the frame wraps around and integrates with the consoles. Once I add the canopy reflections its gonna be awesome! :headb:
Have a good evening guys!
