Wow!
Your pit seems almost there!! Maybe I should stop mine!
Great work as always Cemil…that external 3d seems really detailed!!
DO NOT stop your work my friend, Are you sure about that?
Lots of work in the trash, I don’t think so…
Best regards

Random question - I’m sure it’s been addressed previously:
When did the F-14 get a fixed HUD? The older models just projected flight information directly onto the forward canopy screen, did they not?
-
With the D model upgrade.

@611-eagle:
external is ~200k poly… I will try it reduce…
200k would tax the system? how does Falcon deal with high poly meshes? I mean what is the upper practical cap?

The F-14D had a fixed HUD from the get go. The F-14B (F-14A+), go a slightly bigger big HUD (Sparrowhawk) with the F-14B upgrade that upgraded cockpit displays and the databus to 1760 to allow for JDAM carriage, targetting, and communication.

Thanks! If you ever get a chance, picking up a copy of “Persain Cats” from the bookstore or the library (I could be remembering the title wrong, but the author of the blog references the same book, so the citation is in there) is a good, short read. We often contest foreign combat performances and figures, but as many articles he’s written out and substantiated to a fair degree point out, combat reports from most any nation are questionable at best in most cases. But, if “Persain Cats” is a proper analysis, the F-14 is truly one heck of a fighter, and Iran had and has some truly great pilots. It’s just a shame that fear-mongering and underhanded politics have resulted in the trashing of a valuable asset for the US Navy:
From my trip to the Boneyard at Davis-Monthan AFB as a cadet in 2008, I think.

interesting or amusing?
it reckons that the F-14 never lost a dogfight to the F-16 or F-15…
-
Yes great article up to the point that they mention this… It makes you re-think of everything above…
-
not so sure. the cadence makes me think of skynight…
the manner in which it is written, and the lack of reputable sources, makes me write off most of the “claims” in the article.
nice pictures though.
-
Just said interesting…
I agree the article seems a bit biased but you just need to take the parts you want
I personally liked to learn a bit more about the Iranians Tomcats!

every claim about any plane, not having lost a dogfight against any contemporary opposition it ever flew against, if true, would go solely as a credit to its pilots. Just one look at the flight envelopes of every plane designed from the start of the 70’s to the start of the 90’s is enough to tell you how close these birds are in the overall performance
-
or in this case, as a credit to the hyperbole of the speaker.
if true on the other hand, It would definitely be the result of the pilots’ skill.
-
yeah, exactly!
