Beginnger's Guide: How to Add or Replace a Weapon to BMS
-
For once I completely agree with you Molni and thanks for the insightful post. How about your MOD, has that been released already and I missed it?
-
thanx but file not found… anyone care to share please?
Also do they work with BMS?

There were a very WIP release exactly one year ago. The level of progress of current is very good but it still haven’t been finised. The DB is “99%” done, the rest is what I have to figure out what campaigns files should be used, because of the conctent update 5. In the WIP release only one campaign were tweaked therefore it sounds logical choice useing U5’s campaign files but I have to examine at least one issue. Some campaigns requires carriers but for the first release Bad Boy made the the necessary changes.

I have the files at my desktop PC, but i’m not at home ATM. Ultimately i can upload them tomorrow.Guldager

Only problem that every theater makers have their own aspect, regardless how big and detailed a core/mater DB at least minor edits are required. Sq. sizes, battalion rosters, available weapos, etc. mean different demand to DB.
…
What about DB related issues which have strong impact on gameplay…? Each theater may need different role scores, different squadron sizes, different sq. stores. Etc.
Sure … but as you said … it is a big (or evn huge) work to rebuild everything each time… furthermore when code changes makes DB out to date and change in-games behavior. Non talking about the fact that BMS is not FF and we will not be able to give an access to DEV forum to follow the when & why of each single changes … etc …
So … you will have to restart “from scratch” each time we will have a new major update (hopefully not every years).
It is a choice that theater DEV has to make:
- Run with Korean stock DB (with skin change and maybe some minor change in DB)
or - Deeply change the DB to make a/c country depended, with some new/other weapons etc … in that case, they will have to accept the fact that they will have to restart ll their job from scratch each major BMS release.
A tool would make their life easier … if they could save/export their data edit, and import them again in the new DB (paying attention to updates what it should do if code change require it etc…)

Who has the skill to make such a tool?

Who has the skill to make such a tool?
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?14734-BMS-Database-Manager-%28WIP%29
And maybe some BMS guys will work on a dedicated tool… but no more info ATM. There is no official, nor non-official statement ATM.

In my opinion this quick and dirty mods of the DB is what makes BMS a nightmare for compatibility between mods.
Just to copy a entry of the CT table and put a new name, but keep the same “Domain/Class/Type/Subtype/Specific” (DCTSS Numbers) is not the way to go. What defines a given vehicle, weapons, etc is not the CT. The CT can change from DB to DB (is just a value), but the DCTSS number should be always the same for a given type of aircraft or weapon.
I think the best way for the community would be to have a MASTER DB, where the DCTSS numbers are kept up to date. In the example of PMC, a MIRAGE IIIR2Z should have a different TSS number because it is a different platform. If we act this way, people would be able to import a new vehecile/weapon/etc to his/her DB, put some CT number, and ready to go.
Agree. This video was really just to show how to replace a model and how to add training weapons which are eye candy only.

Thank you Demo, As I am currently trying to replace the F-15J. I have been able to replace it but I’m having an issue with the skin texture sets. I need to set them to work with the F-15C skins sets, but NOT use the F-15C sets, but use its own sets.

Did you assign it’s own DDS texture for it when you installed? If you did and its not working you probably need to edit the lod and make it looks for the right texture.
For example:
First make sure your texture is not in use by another model (lots of dds numbers available in the 3000+ range). Then in LE, go to the “Edit LOD” screen where you see the wire model. Double click on 0.Root (right side), Textures button, select texture in list (blue bar means selected), type in the DDS texture number above the change button and then hit the button. Then accept twice, hit save button and check result by hitting the 3D Viewer button. Exit when ready.
I had the same issue with the CATM-120B using the live AIM-120 skin and JanHas told me how to fix.

I’m getting an error trying to get to the Edit LOD screen. There is something wrong with the F-15C model.

I’m trying to install the ALW pack following the video’s instructions, but when I open F4browse I got this message “Can’t map file KoreaObj.lod”. What can I do to solve this problem?

Hey all,
First I want to thank DEMO for the awesome tutorial. Very helpful. I’ve been working on adding a new missile to my database that I’ve called the AIM-120D. I wanted to simulate the upcoming AMRAAM with 50% increased range. I’ve got the weapon added and working per the tutorial. I have two problems now.
1. When I fire the weapon I hear the radio squawk but no call for “Fox Three XX”. Is there a way to get that working with a new weapon?
2. The weapon is using an existing flight model for the missile I based it off of. Since I want to increase the range, how do I make it used a different DAT file? Say I want to copy the 120C dat to a new 120D and modify values. How do I tell the new weapon to use that file?
Thanks!

You need to duplicate an existing missile FM like amraam default fm, give it a new name, add its name to the mistypes with a new number at the end, and use this number to your new missile FM from F4Browse. Then make any changes to both db values and new FM.
I am finishing a -larger detailed- manual, when published you’ll have all the info you need there.
-
Thank you sir. I’ve copied the 120C.dat to a 120D.dat and I’ve opened up the mistypes.lst file and entered the name of the file at the bottom. Can you clarify what you meant by “with a new number at the end, and use this number to your new missile FM in F4Browse”? I don’t see any numbers for other entries. There is a number at the top of the file that seems to correspond to the number of entries. I’ve increased that by one. Does that mean then umber I want to use would be that last number IE 190/190 entries?
Thanks

From “Sim Weapon Data” on F4browse, “Missile Ptr” value box is the missile FM number, as defined in mistypes file.
So when you’ll add the new FM record name at the bottom, increase the first number by 1, this number is showing you how many records are below, starting the counting from 0. Better use Notepad++, or if you use default windows notepad click on View > Status Bar to see the line counting enabled at the notepad bottom.
So the actual FM number you should input on the missile ptr is the bottom line count minus 2 (due to first line number and start the counting from 0).
I’ve managed to succeed many new and interesting stuff, and testing things internally in 16th. They’re all be documented and published soon.

Awesome, yep figured it out! Thank you.
Any thoughts on the “Fox three” radio call?
-
If you multiplied an amraam FM record to model another amraam version, there shouldn’t be any problems with radio calls;
In the bottom of FM there should be a line value “foxType 3” too.
