BMS Key File Help

You can fully program your Warthog with DX, except the both hats on the front side of the right Throttle (I think one is the POV and the other one is designated as cursor? Can be wrong here). All you need to do is to program those with TARGET.

What is the keystroke for firing the gun? I do not see it listed anywhere.
-
See Flight Stick section, second trigger detent

Please remind me again how to correctly install this keyfile… do I need a certain profile for the HOTAS Cougar to use together with Kolbe’s excellent keyfile? I’ve recently re-installed BMS after a system upgrade and would love to take up regular flying again.
Thanks, Uwe

Hi Uwe,
there is no need to “install” the key file. Just copy the file of your choice to your user/cofig folder an choose it in BMS setup.
I remember helping you with the Dx stuff a while back. Just take a look at the dx-generator.xls. It helps you setting up the
Dx code lines. Just follow the instructions.Regards
Kolbe

Thanks for all your hard work, Kolbe, I’ll give it a go and make sure to follow the instructions to the letter. No head tracking involved this time so I don’t expect more “major” problems
All the best, Uwe

Does anybody know where the key is in Kolbe’s Stock Keyfile for what was called in the original keyfiles: Wpn- Cycle A-A/Cycle A-G in the original keyfile?
I need that to complete my mapping but i cant find it -
I’m using SimNextAAWeapon and SimNextAGWeapon.
-
Ah that would be it, but I already fixed it just using the default BMS keyfile, I couldn’t find the UHF and VHF keys at first thats why I thought I had to use Kolbe’s.
Turns out there just called HOTAS-UHF and HOTAS-VHF…… doh :fart:
Still if you have a HOTAS with a LOT of buttons, I could imagine Kolbe’s keyfiles would be helpful, good job Kolbe! -

such callbacks are not present in my key files at the moment.
But most likely it will change in my next update. -

I tried your full key profile 1.6 and……
:eek::eek:
OMG. You may say it is not the holly grail of the .key files but I disagree with u. IT IS.
Now I can map my controllers way, way faster. Now it makes sense.
thank you very much four your work. And good call by bms team to include it with the std BMS release.
I would go further and ask the devs to give a thought to make this .key profile the default profile.
Never coming back to the original one.

First of all, thank you very much for your work. I’ve just discovered it and is helping a lot mapping the controls for my full replica cockpit.
I had an intense weekend reading and messing with .KEY and .XSL generators, etc… and I think I am getting the hung og it. But since it was a bit of info overload on the last two days maybe I missed some points:
-Reading the .KEY manual is clear that assigning keybinds from the BMS UI is to be totally avoid. But I understood assigning DX from UI is OK? Any adventages to do it editing the .KEY?
-When adding DX entries on the .KEY they go away from the BMS UI, is it normal? They appear to work fine in the sim though
-Flying Falcon for over a decade and always thought keybind profiling was the best and safest way to go because with DX you depending of windows placing your many devices (and there are MENY in a full cockpit). Now all I hear DX is the way to go, but how you handle changing, adding devices, wouldn’t it mess the windows list and therefore your assignation? Do you have to re-do your .KEY?. On the other hand the keybinds will always be the same…Thanks!

You’re welcome

Indeed you should avoid saving a key file in the UI as it could screw up your entire file. Sometimes it might work without side effects, sometimes not.
Regarding DX assignments: As soon as you hit the save button the entire file will be saved, not only the DX code lines. See remarks above.
Another disadvantage is, that you can’t assign functions to a shifted layer. Assignments are only possible for unshifted layers.-When adding DX entries on the .KEY they go away from the BMS UI, is it normal? They appear to work fine in the sim though
Yes, DX code lines are not shown in the UI.

It depends. You are completely right. If you plug / unplug devices the order can change. And this will screw up your DX assignments. Not good for Pit builders.
DX assignments are save to use, if you have not many devices connected to your PC. Personally I run a Cougar, 2 MFDs and an ICP since ages without any issues.
I plug / unplug them regulary as I visit LAN events up to two times a year.Just make sure your PC is off if you unplug them and plug them in (PC off as well) to the same USB connectors.
Make your DX assignments when you are sure, you don’t have to add or remove devices in the future. But to be honest:
At the moment (as long as we don’t have the possibilty to add GUID strings to our DX code lines), I would also use keybindings to set my stuff up IF I were a pit builder. But the big advantage of DX is, that BMS knows the button positions as soon as you enter the sim which is not possible with keybindings.

Hello Kolbe and the other Falcon BMS pilots,
first thanks to you for your great program “keyfile editor” and all the documentation stuff. Now i understand the key file.
I have a really simple question and i did not find still yet this information.
I try to find a documentation about all possible keys with a good explanation.
example.
AFGearToggle “Ckpit-Landing Gear” : This key allows the F-16 Block 52 to get out the gears from the plane. It is need to land on a runway.
SimToggleExtLights “Ckpit-Aircraft Lights” : This key activates the aircraft lights. Now you can see the runway.
….Exits such a documentation?!

Ok, i did not find such a documentation too.
Another question. I have take a look to the BMS-Keyfile Generator 1_6.xls
There are a lot of Keys inside this Excel Document, but the most important
are not inside.Example which i miss:
SimRadarAAModeStep -1 0 0X3B 0 0 0 1 “Radar-A to A”
SimRadarAGModeStep -1 0 0X3C 0 0 0 1 “Radar-A to G”
SimRadarElevationDown -1 0 0X3F 0 0 0 1 “Radar-Antenna Tilt Down”
SimRadarElevationUp -1 0 0X41 0 0 0 1 “Radar-Antenna Tilt Up”
SimRadarElevationCenter -1 0 0X40 0 0 0 1 “Radar-Antenna Center”
BombRippleDecrement -1 0 0X27 1 0 0 1 “Wpn-Bomb Ripple Dec”
BombRippleIncrement -1 0 0X28 1 0 0 1 “Wpn-Bomb Ripple Inc”
……
and 50 other.Exists there a documentation of all SimKey-Names like SimRadarAAModeStep and others?!

Maybe i have found a documentation of all keys.
In the Falcon BMS Folder exist the file keyfile-generator.xls.
Inside this is a sheet with a description and all keys. Maybe this file contains 100%.
