That’s an old F-14A RIO seat. The F-14B upgrade and F-14D have a much better digital display, though all of them could display the LANTIRN image without any problems.

Hey guys, sorry for the 3 month hiatus (in which i lost most of my work and i had to start all over again), but i’m back now. And i have 2 files for testing if someone is interested. One FM and one AFM. I’m still not totally pleased with the thrust values for above 10 000ft, but they just might do for now. I have completely out of the Falcon community, so what’s new? Have there been any upgrades in the last 3 months? New 3D models? New skins? Is anyone else working on the cat?
Cheers and happy holidays

Are there any other visual differences between an A and B pit, aside from the HUD present on late B’s?

visually, no.
F110 Engines in the B’s
APG/71 RadarThis F-14B is AKA “Bombcat”
-
Yeah, the F110’s have different exhaust nozzles and there can be some external differences considering the ECM blisters on some aircraft, but i had never seen the inside of their cockpits side by side. Thanks for the info
Do you plan to bind this cockpit (without the HUD of course) on the F-14A as well? -
As long as we have the AFM’s to support each of the models with the different thrust, sure.
-
The B has the SAME AWG-9 as the F-14A, only the F-14D had the APG-71. The F-14B(upgrade) is known as the Bombcat, as is any LANTIRN equipped jet, but the B(upgrade) were known as it first. It came into the fleet as an F-14A+, the best air-to air fighter <opinion>until the F-14D came along.</opinion>

My information states the F14B not F14+ has APG71. Either way, in BMS the importance of the differences between B and A version are that the B incorporates the F110 engine.

At some point or other, the canards were also disabled in fleet service. Only Iran operates the Tomcat with the canard foreplanes today.
-
Were the glove vanes disabled on the A’s as well? Or did the B’s and D’s not get them to begin with?
-
I almost want to say that we covered a lot of this stuff in the F-14D cockpit discussion thread, and maybe the “Tom’s Cat” thread as well. According to Wikipedia, it seems most F-14s would have been the A variant, with few new-build B’s and D’s being manufactured. I don’t know when the vanes were disabled, but it seems to have been a universal omission from the US fleet. I’m guessing that new-build F-14Ds and rebuilds did not have the vanes installed, but I cannot say for certain.
Oh yeah, and Dick Cheney is a ******.
-
I don’t recall the exact numbers as well, but roughly at least 3/4 of all the cats were probably A’s, possibly some of them rebuilt later.

Sure, most were F14A’s. All F14+ would become F14B. The A variant is capable of only retarded ground munitions. Also as discussed the B model has the better engines.
If there were 2 models of F14 to make, IMO there the B and D.

The A variant is capable of dropping all GBU series LGBS, dumb bombs, CBUs, and mines. It only cannot carry and launch JDAM because the F-14A has a MIl-STD-1553 datbus vice the required -1760 datbus needed for JDAM. The F-14A still had the same LANTIRN pod in the same place. Use VF-211 and VF-154s history for research on this( VF-211 reverted back to the F-14A from the F-14A+/B and flew with them until 2003ish.).

All F-14Bs and F-14Ds, new build and rebuilds, had no glove vanes. They were either built without them, or had them removed during their remanufacture.

Lol why is Dick Cheney a ******?
I already did, but can’t do enough: Thanks Nizmo for your work on BMS, thx too all other developers too - off course

Having the A’s around would be a nice thing for historical reasons, if we are ever going to get dedicated 70’s and 80’s campaigns
