Tried the ramp start tutorial…...

Man stop bighting off more then you can chew.
You want to use another’s key file. What’s wrong with the defaults?
You can’t do the simple task of left clicking on a key map entry and then pressing a input on your joystick ?
You insist on trying to setup/use your Track IR at the same time.
And lets do a ramp start while where at it.Your not only driving your self insane but all those trying to help.
And your been a member here since 2011, have you been in a coma?Go join a Squad in your time zone but get ready for some tough love.
Or forget about Falcon, crawl before you walk.A Left click on key entry and then the Stick/throttle control it should be linked too.

B See, now that a DX input is Set
c My Target software is running and Stick & Throttle are seen a combined device.Ramp Start, easy go Takeoff Taxi
Yes man,I have been in a coma.
I go in a coma when I open that f4 manual. It’s like a mouse trap loaded you know.
I look over to it and it teases me but when I open her,she SNAPS my brain in two and I close her in a hurry and pack her back on the shelf.
But this time I’m not gonna let her place her black paws onto my back.
I’ll BARK BACK!

Lot to be said for the 2D pit at least you can see everything. But then again I am biased as thats the way Ive always flown Falcon. 3D pit never used to be clickable. Plus I think they stick a POV hat on joysticks for some reason, eludes me at the moment.
One suggestion I do have for you with any face position devices not just trackIR is to make sure none of the keys conflict with any in the key file or the profile of your joystick / HOTAS / Keyboard. Time consuming but worthwhile doing in the end according to people Ive flown with who had exactly the same issues.
And Smasha does have a point, the manuals now are getting a bit outdated, no disrespect to the programmers intended so don’t start.
-
I tried that Track Ir profile and not much difference.
Jittery.I used to be able to get a great zoom with the track IR 4.
This thing jitters and splutters and stutters all over the place.
I was using the TRack Ir 4 with a pentium 4 now this thing can’t play ball with a quad core lol.
That profile has a very small zoom.
I want the whole panel I’m looking at to be on the whole screen.
Setting up this sim is a game in itself!

I might do as you suggested and use the 2d pit myself.

Ok I remember the 2d pit was the 2 key.
What is it now?
Track ir is jittery as all stuff.
Unusable for the ramp start I’m afraid.
It sticks and pauses.
Must need a usb 3 port.
-
No advantage from the USB3 port for TrackIR. But for sure it’s a good idea to connect it directly to an port on your mainboard than on a USB hub (if you use one, don’t know …)
-
I think it may be the scripts in the ramp start tutorial.
The tutorial wants to move the camera view around reflecting what needs to be pressed next.
How do I keep the scripted words and lose the scripted camera views?
-
Your TIR need fine tuning maybe. Check the manual of your device for proper settings/configuration.
About ramp start … Tou know how to use your phone, your TV, your radio, your microwave oven, your car, … Is it simply “the same”…
There is only few stuff to remember, not thousands …
- Elec (Battery)
- Radios
- Fuel pumps
- Air source
- Throttle idle
- JFS start
That’s it … your engine is running.
Then switch your avionics ON, wait for IRS alignement, ask for chokes removal, activate the NWS and tou are go!
This is really not difficult, no needs to be MIT graduated!

You don’t put toast in your toaster then look for a button hidden on the other side of the room to operate it with a label TOSTATIRE BOST or something cryptic.
A ramp start is an entirely different kettle of fish to pressing the on button on an appliance Deejay especially all the throttle movement shenanigans.
appliances are ingrained into our being for 100s of years.
A baby knows how to switch channels on a remote.Don’t know how she could ramp start a jet though.
She might think the throttle is a rattle, woooosh.

Anyway, how do I turn scripted cameras off and keep the scripted instruction written on the screen?
I can see TXT,INI,TRN and TWX files.
Which one affects the camera scripts?
I’m close but the camera swings around and stops at the wrong area all the time(was made when we had 4.3 monitors). Is there a chance this sim has toggable pilots?
Like a button the KB to turn the pilot off so you can see all the gauges then when you want the knee pad, toggle him back on?
-
Well … You might be right then … You will maybe have to consider that you are actualy “not wired” for this.
Try art.

Before trying to change anything in the training scripts, you might consider another approach for learning how to ramp start. For instance there is a ramp start training program available in your .\Docs\Falcon 4 Legacy Manuals\4 - SuperPak 4 directory. In addition, you can find tons of ramp start tutorials on Youtube. Some are quite exhaustive and some others are less detailed. This one for instance is well balanced, but I dunno how close it is to the actual checklists:

Camera scripts? 2D pit? Toasters? WTF???
How much more complicated are you trying to make this thing? You’ve already been told, but you’re not listening. Forget ramp starting for now. Get some “wins” under your belt doing something else (in the sim). Enough with the drama.

And btw, do not try to learn the WHOLE sutff for an operational mission. But focus on basic a/c employment, no DTC, no weapons employement, no TGP or HTS employment, no CMDS (chaff/flare) employement … You will have time to see this later once more confortable with essential/basic aircraft and avionics operation.

No TrackIR doesn’t need a USB 3 port as Reaper stated as well. USB hubs are fine as long as they are POWERED USB hubs. Non powered hubs YMMV.
Otherwise if you have it connected directly to the computer and are having those issues then you either have too much natural back light throwing TrackIR off or you don’t have it configured properly. I’ve used TrackIR 5 for years and the only time it doesn’t behave itself for me is when I have too much natural backlight.
-
@smasha
Do you have a window or some such natural light that your TIR camera is facing? If so pull the blinds/curtains and see if the problem persists. I had this many years ago with TIR3, once I moved my rig sideways to the windows problem dissappeared.
Best of luck.

Don’t put that black dog on my shoulders.
I’m gonna get through this if it kills me.

They are all great.I watched another one last night and Krause’s alot also.
But I start forgetting things unless I have on hands training where it tells me as I’m doing it like the script but that script has so many test parts that you could forget (this being a sim and not real life).
Anyway I will get there.
Just finding the switches when the script tells me is like finding a needle in a haystack but I will start familiarising myself.

I don’t know if anyone else has suggested this but have you read the BMS Dash-1 in your BMS Docs folder? It has a good description of each panel, where it is and what each switch does. Use this in conjunction with the Main Checklist (found in the BMS Docs Checklist folder) and walk yourself through the start-up routine. Pause the game whenever you’re not sure where a switch is and then look it up. Once you’ve done it a couple of times it’ll start getting faster and more familiar.
I fly on-line and when I first started I felt really pushed for time to start the jet and be ready for the Comms checks and Taxi etc when I was supposed to be. These days I find I’m double checking things because I have time to spare and feel I MUST have missed something … usually I haven’t.
It comes with repetition and the learning curve is a steep on to start, but it is so satisfying to start the jet without having to refer to printout
