WIP - East Mediterranean Front theater (EMF) theater

I believe this is ok with the EMF team as I’m not changing their files just changing their location to ease users. Or do I need permission for this
No permission to proceed. Read the disclaimer again.

i mean what happens if you fly KTO with some people having EMF installed and some not
simple u will have MP issues.
Sorry it is simply not true
I have been flying with my squad mates in BMS 4.32 KTO while beta testing EMF on the same install with no issue at all
this was done with early beta, late beta, RCs and final release RC -

That sounds like good news.
Just to be clear: were there also some of your squadmates that did nOt have EMF installed during the flights in KTO?
(Obviously its the mix of the two versions of falcon bms that worries me ) -
none of them had EMF installed but me. We were flying only 4.32 KTO
-
Ok good enough. That settles it for me.
Thanks for all your repleys.Snowman

Oh is that why you were flying that space shuttle for the last few months? I wondered why you were speaking Greek on the radios too.
Just kidding folks, you can fly both on the same install no problems, just not at the same time

Ok no problem… but to solve this problem (for personal use) then as the disclaimer says can I ask for permission to
1. make a backup of it
2. copy paste files and folders to my testing windows hdd setup? The reason is to have an insight of the theater structure and files…
3. also I want to save when opening them with Falcon editor or Terrain Editor and other Falcon tools to test some stuff and maybe offer work to EMF team? -
@Red:

wouldn’t that mean that some sim folder data used by your system where calculated differently then the way where calculated by the others that didn’t had EMF?
I’m sure it did.

Ok to clear things up,
emf changes the sim folder and tacref data. The second is not MP critical so I won’t elaborate on it.
As far as sim folder is concerned, the general idea is not to mess with default Korea theaters that comes with BMS at all. That means that all the additional information that were added in the sim folder, were added at the end of the default BMS ones.
To get a little more technical, sim folder (for all types of data) works with pointers to files. The default BMS pointers were preserved and we added the emf pointers to the end of them. So, when you’re flying Korea and you request a file via a pointer, this file will be the same regardless whether you have emf installed or not.
That is the theory and so far, online tests in Korea theater (with and without emf) support it.
The reason we recommend a vanilla setup is, since we are changing the sim folder, using any other mod/theater which changes the sim folder as well will lead to trouble. Installing theaters that are using the default BMS sim folder is ok, and in theory you will not have any problems, even in MP (just like default Korea theaters).

This critical information really ought be in the release thread.

So lets get this straight. The EMF team alters the stock BMS install at it’s whim, but also alters it to the extent that it invalidates any other Add-On Theaters that alter the sim folder,
then…

Prohibits any modification to it’s theater
install….Do I read that right??
Sounds like what went down right after BMS was released, in regards to theaters…Remember?

C9Where you there in 2011 just after BMS release Cloud9?

Hi!
Where you there in 2011 just after BMS release Cloud9?
All the information is contained within the forum as to what went down in 2011, whether anyone including myself was present or not during that period.
Just asking a question is all as I don’t understand the SPIRIT or denying any modifications, versus the tons of developers that seemingly everyday release, models, terrain, skins, Add-On theaters(occasionaly), etc, with full permissions to modify and re-distribute…as long as they are given credit for their original work.

Nobody is forcing anyone to download and install BMS.
Nobody is forcing anyone to download and install this theatre.
The fact is that many talented and dedicated people (not just the EMF team) have spent hundreds and thousands of hours of their time creating, improving and releasing software to the wider community for no cost. They still have to work within the limitations of the legacy software to a large extent though, so sometimes that means that modifications have to be made which may not work with all other modifications. That’s just the way it is for now, and having multiple installs or folder backups is a simple and effective way of managing that.
Can you imagine how they must feel to have given something that took that much effort and time back to the community for free only to have some people (thankfully a minority) bitch and whine that it’s not good enough?
Can we please try not to bite the hand that feeds us such exciting and detailed new content, so that these people who are giving so freely of their time and expertise do not decide to keep their work to themselves or even give up completely? They deserve our thanks and encouragement, and time to improve their work further. Nobody is saying that anything is perfect in Falconland, but these people are making it better.

Nobody is biting anyone’s hand!!
Arty just want’s to make a F4Patch to simplify the changing of the Sim folder, stock vs any Add-On theater so it’s more simple for persons who are either, A) not proficient at the re-naming game, or B) if they are, they can’t keep track of it. He doesn’t intend to modify any file, just organize them to facilitate the F4Patch fix.
I don’t see any issue with that.
Do you??

Its funny how we end up in this situation always here….
I wanna say that only the Tacref its funny… I tried after installing EMF to continue a campaign (i tried to build, still wip) in Aegean and it just worked like a charm and imagine that in tacref there is no haf-52 after the emf… Lets enjoy this theater witch it was to many years long awaited and have the patience that its needed until it takes its final form, the guys have done a hell of a job as everyone here that have released a mod or a theater or even just a patch ti fix something. Lets don’t be bitching for this and that without a real reason… and don’t tell me that people aren’t modded it already with some 3d models we’ve seen the screenshots… I’m waiting for more to come from the EMF team and of course some naval units & ground units and a great scenario (or 3) for the campaign.
Happy new year to all of you… -
Nobody is biting anyone’s hand!!
by not accepting and discussing their rules you are.
emf dev team have stated their rule, you abide or you don’t use their stuff
Simple enough -

I was thinking exactly same way for my theater. Hope BMS team will preserve vanilla files only, so your approach will be supported in the future (there should be about 10 unprotected entries for developers already prepared imo )…

C9 is not bitching IMO just says what is.
On the other hand since the team has a rule we have to respect it whether we like it or not, and I believe we can say if we like it or not. The Godsend EMF is for granted and cause of its high value we have such dialogs. There are no words to express our gratitude to EMF team, but some face some trouble, shouldn’t we try to resolve it?Now as Monster explained we have a non-issue issue.
The initial report to have a different only EMF install was kinda misleading IMO. U need a only BMS-EMF install only if u r about to change to a theater that also alters sim folder files. Those are? REDFLAG IIRC? Anyone else?
So big fus for nothing? And I say that cause the FO team has ppl that in a snap can provide a quick solution.
