Happy new year Tom! You are rock and your models are awesome i used them in BfB 1.1.5: a lot of ships and lot of planes and no problem for FPS or other issue.
A big thanks for your work and please absolutely don’t hang yourself right now not worth it

No the only good and realistic explanation it’s that MP engine in BMS is not really advanced for a massive multiplayer and in any case, from a deep analisys in lod debug files, not related to LODs or other stuffs like this. For example VG server had the same problems with KTO standard database. Nothing is perfect and using an expression from Stalic : “BMS is not a newtonian universe simulation”. In any case my statement was for FPS and not others, and, if the experience of FO MP was so dramatic we would not have so many ppl participants.

Well I remember you deleted Tomcatz heli months ago in Balkans due some crashes. Fps issue is a offline problem too and an f15 or a carrier with 80000 rendered polys is a no go for flying in bms, specially in mp.

Wrong. We excluded choppers generally, not Tom’s choppers, mainly if close to the frontline. Because if you put an eli squadron in an army base and army base is occuped from enemy faction, the campaign engine still to spawn choppers in the same emplacement and for that you will have CDTs, that’s from a large experience we have, and for me it’s more important evidences from direct observation then any theory. In any case i’m writing about ships and no choppers or plane and for all Tom’s models i didn’t have problems.

You have not carriers in “your” theater. Maybe some osa II and few others. I am talking about carrier and his f15. You have my videocard cause I gave you the link to buy it. Test his carrier and his f15 and you will have fps issues. Even 30 or 40 less. You are talking about different things there are not in bfb, so I don’t really understand why to say you have not fps issue if you have not this new models replaced.

Get a GTX 980 you wont have any problems. Was practicing carrier traps today, held 90+ fps with all those ship models in the fleet, and Lod 0 set for 30000. So far for I have upped every vehicle lod 0 in the game to at least 5000 and have no issues. I am still waiting for the BMS version that will tax my rig.
I personally don’t like the F-15 because it is unfinished under the speed brake and the afterburner looks weird, but it never taxed my system.
Now does anyone know how to create a new parent file so the Sovi and FFG-7 can coexist.

Okay, HEEELP! Followed the instructions just like the poster says, new model shows in LE just fine with new model/textures. When in actual game, same old model/textures…

I don’t know if you followed the directions it should have worked. You did replace each different CT and not just the one in the example right. Are you using an add on theater? If you are you have to do in that theater’s hdr as well.

Yup, and like I said: it shows-up in LE viewer just fine, it’s only in Tacref/Munitions Screen and Sim that is continues to show the stock model/tex…

Tax your system… in full campaign, BMS is CPU bounded and not GPU, so your 980 cycles will be of little help when it gets down there. There not borne the CPU yet that will manage BMS without loosing performance, that’s why the bubble is there BTW. Just fly with enough units in the bubble and your system will be taxed.
Releasing models without lower LODs is like letting you eat a half-baked cake.

I have an i3, 4GB RAM and a 1GB videocard. All works fine without any Problems. What is working on my old Station should work on every other System.
I tryed Balkan because that Theater looks very very fine. But alltimes it chrashed. I never replaced any model in that Theater so it should not the Problem of models in it.- too many texture tiles maybe?
Models without lower LOD`s? Sure! Because there are allready lower LODs are still in it. So its not necessary. A triangle is a triangle. Sure, replacing all stages of the LODs should generate deep Trouble and I never said or did it.

Tom, lower LODs from different models aren’t good because it cause the DX engine to load a new set of textures for the lower LODs when they are loaded. This is bad practice, once a model textures been loaded by DX, they should be used for all LODs of the same model.
Frankly, I don’t care if one wants to release a zillion polys model for BMS, he can do that, but the least one could do is supply lower LODs for the same model, in order to reduce the extra work of loading new textures. You may find it OK even if you have a low end system, but I can tell you that I have a quite high-end one and I still find BMS being heavy in some extreme situations in campaign. Not talking about some guys with 4-5 screens to support a full cockpit, they sometimes have to disable some shaders in order to have a flyable sim. And more, if you look into the future, we are talking about 4K resolutions, and maybe some heavier shaders etc…
I don’t understand why someone as talented as yourself not taking the time to create 1 model that is built from bottom to top for BMS, you can make it 100K polys if you like (but I’ve see talented folks creating 30K tris models in awesome quality (actually I’ve see even 15K-20K tris in amazing quality but that case is a bit rare I guess) and just do it completely, I promise you that you will get much more respect from everyone for that, than releasing dozens of unfinished or half-baked models. But, at the end it’s your time and your choice, you can do whatever you like, just this is IMHO disrespect to the spirit of Falcon to release models like that.

Still looking for info on how to make the FFG-7 and Sovementary coexist though.

OK, are you extracting displays? if yes then how many screens? if you aren’t then you are missing the other 50% fun that the sim offers. What is your monitor resolution? if 1920x1200/1080, can you run DSR in Nvidia panel to double that resolution in order to enjoy the amazing picture quality that your card can supply?
The next version of BMS may be a bit heavier in performance than current version, how many FPS drop are you getting currently with 2 IR/TV MFDs running at the same time (example TGP on left and Maverick WPN on right)?
Believe me I’m enough time around Falcon to know that there is no such thing as overkill HW for Falcon, you may get a 120 FPS in some TE, but then at some extreme campaign situation, you may suddenly drop to 20-25… sure having a 5930 CPU and 980 card will push those extreme situations to be really rare, but still, there is no such thing as “I don’t need optimization from 3D models, textures and GFX”.
and… last but not least, this sim is for everyone, and while I agree that people should get a “gaming” rig in order to run BMS, still not everyone can afford having the latest and best all the time.
