Quality Levels
-
Does anyone know how to get the quality levels in the grapphics section to go higher? the max i have is quality level 1. I’ve switched to an hdmi output, and updated the video card driver.
My video card is an AMD Radeon HD 5450.

Maybe your HW doesn’t support more than that.

yeah, i can only go up to level one too. my computer isn’t all that fast compared to some machines ppl here use. your computer in all likely-hood can’t run FBMS with any more detail than that since i think FBMS analyzes your hardware to see what you can and cannot do (within reason of course) with the graphics.
Hope that helps!

The problem on your end is going to be a limitation of the video card itself. The Radeon HD 5450 is the low end of the 5000 series. The card itself will be seeing its sixth year in the marketplace in September. It’s sheer performance in gaming is roughly equivalent to a Geforce 8600 GT gaming card produced almost a decade ago. Unfortunately, a newer video card would have to be installed for better performance. However, things like the systems age, power supply, CPU, etc would also come into play, as putting a newer generation card in a system with a low wattage PSU or even a bottle-necking CPU is the same as burning your wallet.
Attached are some comparisons for you from passmark and their video card performance calculations. Your card is to the left, an equivalent in the middle, and a newer lower gaming card to the right.

oh. is there any other way too mae bms look better than?

I am of the opinion, that without buying new hardware, what you have is probably all you will get.

It seems to be random, With Titan-X’s I can only get level 3, but with a rattly old 290x I can get level 7.

No, for sure it’s not random, don’t spread such info please. If you have a specific problem with a specific card/system then you should iron it out.

I’m curious about the levels too. I see the same as Magoozle. I had a GTX 580 and it went up to level 7. My new 980 only goes to level 4. My 980 is definitely better than the 580 so the levels aren’t “apples-to-apples” then right? Level 4 on my 580 must not be equal to level 4 on my 980? Or it’s something with my settings maybe… I’ll research.

Titan-X - 3
290x - 7
gtx980 g1 - 5
gtx980 msi - 3
gtx970 strix - 3that’s all the cards i currently have to test here, interesting that the two 980’s have different values.
The only difference is the g1 is on win7 64, and the msi 4g is on 8.1 64.

Weird… maybe you have some none-native 3rd party SW engaged that might have an effect on this stuff??
I ran BMS with 6 different cards on 4 different platforms:
GTX-260
GTX-560TI
GTX-750M (on laptop)
GTX-780
ATI HD6300M (on laptop)
ATI R9 280XAll could/can go to quality level 7.
I don’t want to tell something that I’m not 100% sure about, but I think the available quality levels relates directly to the AA levels/modes that your card supports.

I think this discussion is out of scope when it is focused solely on Falcon BMS. The slider we are referring to in this thread is Setup -> Graphic -> Multisampling. I believe (please correct me if I am wrong) Falcon uses the MSAA technique to smooth out jagged images. This is an older scheme for Anti-Aliasing compared to the newer TXAA. Magoozle’s nice, shiny Geforce GTX 980’s are built to utilize TXAA, and Falcon BMS does not support TXAA in any way, shape or form. The MSAA settings you can set in falcon are going to be dependent on the version of GPU and the driver version you have. I would guess the 980’s dont support a higher in game quality level only because these setting were not programmed into your specific driver, not because it is incapable of doing it.

I just have the brand new card - nothing additional, no additional software. That PC is just used for flying. I never tried changing the default settings on the card whereas on my 580 I had turned up some settings (and I was using the old 306.97 driver on that card), so next time I fly I’ll see if I can figure it out.

For me 2 or 3 out of 8 is as far as I go, beyond that seems to be pointless. AA is not the be all to quality graphics. Good Anisotropic Filtering was important in days goon by. And as many pixels as possible.
For FPS games, close quarter combat within and around structures, then higher levels are needed.
AA options can change with driver used also.

I just replaced my GTX 580 with a GTX 980 ti. Same here 580=7, 980 ti = 3 multisampling.

I turned off Multi-Sampling in BMS and manage it on the graphics card.
At one point, I had it on in both (not intentionally, just didn’t know better). Resetting to be managed by nVidia control panel gave a HUGE frame rate boost.
System specs in sig below.

I think the key improvement in frame rates was NOT have AA on in both spaces …. either use BMS or use the GPU, but not both. IIRC, I went from 45 - 60 fps to 75+ fps. And that is with cockpit shadows and most of the other eye-candy on.

Quick question.
My setup screen shows only my on board HD graphics option and a quality level of 2.
That said i’m pretty sure the software actually uses my AMD HD7600 card as my framerates are decent.
Question is - is my quality level decided by the software based on it thinking I only have the on board vga adaptor? (setup dont show my AMD card or let me choose any other quality level)
Regards,
Gary
