Touchscreens and the upcoming BMS 4.33
-
I suppose this is the best place to ask: Will there be the ability to utilize touchscreen monitors in BMS 4.33?
I’d love to see it, because I used my left hand in F4:AF for that purpose, much preferring to let go of the throttle rather than the control stick to use my mouse.

Dont get your hopes up
The thing is, it needs a complete rewrite of the input system. Not undoable, but very time-consuming.

It might be possible to write an interface layer that could simulate a mouse click…but I wouldn’t want to bet about how accurate it could be made to be.
I’ve been playing with an overlay for BMS myself for other more nefarious purposes and it seems to work pretty well.

AFAIK touchscreen monitors work ok even right now with 4.32…
Except you have something exotic in your mind??

Current off the shelf monitors with capacitive touch work fine in every Windows applications…

@ raptor - yes there is a problem for those that want to use a touchscreen as the main screen and directly interact with the cockpit controls.
Good to have for touch laptops but also a nice & neat travel cockpit.Currently the cockpit cursor is moved by relative mouse movement
(from the actual position +/- so and so much in the X/Y direction)On a touchscreen you send absolute screen coordinates to the system when tipping on it.

together with a new g_use_touchscreen_as_mouse switch in the .cfg file:
how about retrieving the actual screen position of the BMS cockpit cursor when receiving touchscreen input (screen coordinates)
and creating a function that feeds the ‘normal’ mouse receiver with artificial relative movement to get to the desired touch position? One tip on the screen to position the cockpit cursor and snap to a control if there is one.
a following short tip = left click (or wheel turn down)
a following long tip = right click (or wheel turn up)Another option:
BMS cockpit cursor position (absolute coordinates) readable in SharedMem
I could write a touchscreen input to relative mouse movement converter to do the underlined task above.regards,

LivrotAll of this sounds like good ideas indeed. However, TBH, this a bit out of my personnal scope and some guys in the team already have some ideas on this. Simply, dont expect it in 3-4 weeks, but maybe ? in 6-8 weeks

nice to hear this, thank you!

No, nothing exotic. I simply want to ‘push’ buttons on the ICP via my touchscreen monitor and have the buttons actually activated rather than the cursor simply moving to that spot.

I’m doing my own extractor and input system. It will run on html and a custom made web server, so you can have as many devices as you can afford. As I intercept clicks on an html page, it will function on touchscreen devices. As soon as I have something ready I will share. My problem is the graphics that I am not able to do well.

Helios is Open Source now.

The switches look very good.
Maybe you can find a way to use those?regards,

LivrotNow I can’t download and see the switches, but I am really unable to modify images to have great results. I hope that when I will finish it and release someone with the necessary skills will provide images for who will use it. Right now I grabber images from xflight.de and somewhere else I can’t remember.
Here an image
the console is full, only a little part is displayed here, but with an android device (in example) it seems quite easy to move all the switches you need.
Hope to post something soon.

If a touch screen icp would satisfy you then you know ? that for the cost of a cheap 7-10" android device with simple support stand can give you that.

The biggest problem with using one screen is literally keeping your head still. I’ve experienced this problem a lot when I was playing DCS A10C –- I would see an OSB button, want to push it, but due to it’s small size, I need to keep my head really still or else I’d push a different OSB or not press anything at all. Obviously, this problem is lessened or eliminated if you don’t use TIR, but who wants to fly that way? At the very least, you’d want a two-screen setup. One for your in-game display, the second, preferably a touchscreen, for your gauges and controls. The most basic setup is a couple of TM Cougar MFDs taped over a normal computer monitor; the most expensive setup is a touchscreen for each console. Still cheaper than going full physical pit! Having said that, I use Helios every time I fly and with VAC, I have eliminated the need to touch the mouse or keyboard once I’m in the 3D pit.

I’m getting ready to start working on the other panels for my Helios profile:

Hi…
Is there anything improved for touching main screen? -
Huh??
