Zaggy Here - Falcon 4.0 original disc
-
Greets all,
This is Zaggy here - some of you may remember me from the good old days (and things like OpenSkins and BAZ Terrains and the original F-15C/E skins, etc)… I’ve not been around for a while!
Now, I am in need of an F4.0 original CD to install BMS once again, as my old, original 1998 CD is unreadable; any one have a spare or can point me in the right direction? If so, drop me a line - xavier_of_haar (at) hotmail.com
Otherwise who is still around from the good old days? Is Bluey still about? Mike Rivers? etc?

Hello and welcome back…
In my Hotlist u will find ICE’s guide that will cover your request for the installation CD.
Have fun…
Recruiting doesn’t apply 2 u. Your moding - development license is still valid and u have lots of work to do to fill in the absence gap… So GOTS and we are waiting for your WIP threads…
Enjoy…Στάλθηκε από το MI 5 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk

Oh and Mike Rivers is here doing wonderful things that everyone speaks about here, even though his name and presence stays under the radar…

Cheers,
LSMostly These days I’m working at Newcastle Uni, so time is an issue at times; but yeah, I want to at least install, have a go and see where BMS is at

I really should put this thread in my signature…

I don’t think that would sit well with the devs here, considering their current position with Tommo, so might be best to amend your post
-
Hotlist is a list I created to help members and users to quick access info.
The link is in my signature. In this hotlist there is Ice’s thread which he already posted the link in the previous post. On post 3 has the info to purchase falcon in cheap pricing. the link to GOG is: https://www.gog.com/game/falcon_collection@Ice yes u should.

Whats wrong with it Ice? My disc is dead, I’m looking for another… I gave my spare F4.0 copy to someone about 4-5 years ago, for the same reason; thus now hoping someone else might have another one laying around I can beg/buy OR they know of someone who has a disc.
Or did I miss something?
As for online purchases, like Steam and etc, yeah… No. I STILL don’t have fast enough net at home!

Ahhh… Hotlist…
I’m actually after a proper disc. And yeah, Ice’s thread was one of the first places I looked…

I could be totally wrong here, but I’m just thinking “disc sharing” would be frowned upon just as “.exe sharing” was. Buying/begging for a disc from someone where ownership changes would be okay, “Where can I buy a Falcon 4.0 CD?” is different from “Where can I borrow a Falcon 4.0 CD so I can install BMS?”
As for online purchases, like Steam and etc, yeah… No. I STILL don’t have fast enough net at home!
The Falcon Gold download from GoG is 367MB. For reference, BMS 4.33 U1 is 1.39GB, U2 is 100MB, U3 is 32.6MB.
I’m actually after a proper disc.
Totally understand! Have you tried the disc on another DVD drive? I thought my disc was gone when I tried installing it on my PC using my DVD drive; it just wouldn’t read it. I tried it again on my laptop’s drive and it worked!! A proper CD may be hard to come by now, hence the suggestion of the readily-available online sources…. I would suggest buying a copy online and that way you can fly sooner rather than later, but good luck with your search for a CD! I know I keep mine hidden away and protected!
-
Yeah mine has gone all crazed or something - not the first disc I’ve seen it happen to - and I know I have an ISO back up on one of the MAAAAANY back ups and drives I have (but it is eluding me ATM). And I like proper discs as well (watching a few on eBay as well).
As for the installer DL, I can grab that at work (Uni has RIDICULOUSLY fast net - I regularly see 12MB/s….yes B for Bytes… Well fast for Australia), so I can just grab that and drop it onto a Flash drive, and I am sorted!
Oh, and while I’m asking about stuff…what sort of Bandwidth is needed for MP these days? I probably need a LOT of MP to get back up to speed on this thing (I have ppl like Buzz and Buckshot and Victor and etc, on FB, so I guess I can track down a Fight )

with 1Mbps upload u will be more than fine… 500 kinda the limit… depending and on mp settings - setup…
If u have 1Mbps up I believe u will have and enough download speed. And here we go… everyone will start making corrections on the bw limitations and their experience and what the manual says and so on and so forth… typical falcon thread and posts… nothing changed… all the same…

Well, I have the disc and it’s really just for me to be able to say “I have the disc!” I know it will most likely go bad one day even if I don’t use it and that’s why I have purchased from GoG. I’ve “wasted” more money on trying out new foods or new restaurants or buying a beer in a party I didn’t really want to be in anyway…
As far as MP, it depends on how many players. p.84 of the BMS Manual will tell you what you need — recommended 1000kb/s per player. I’m no expert but I read that as 1,000 kiloBITS per second or 1 megaBIT per second. When I was on a phone-line internet at 2MB/s, that is 16mb/s and I was able to host 4 players with no problem.

This is the cheapest one I could find on ebay, 5 days left at time of posting

I fully agree with you here.
It’s often not the disc, but the player who fails. The older the player the higher the chance it can’t read the/some discs.
Back in the day I’ve had similar problems, and before throwing the drive into the trash,
I’ve opened it and cleaned the laser lens carefully, … worked like a new one.Cheers,

Yep… I’ve seen discs that ended up having holes in the actual shiny media section so clearly those discs have gone bad… but so far, my Falcon 4.0 CD is still nice and clean so I tried it on the other computer and it worked!

I have not used my original CD since Frugals days, so she is also nice and clean, … and safe.
And when I think about that pic, posted by a guy on the forums (dunno who it was) back in the day,
showing a totally disrupted originally disc, then I doubt my CD will see a CD/DVD- drive ever again.Sent from my laptop using keyboard.
