Till now the map look like this :
Still a lot cleaning to do and stiching etc but im on a good way It looks a lot flatter than before and i think easier to use
-
Current status :
https://image.ibb.co/g21U0b/F_5_wip13.jpg@ Arty, Yes you did dint helped much but i found another way. At least i think.
Maps are changed and are flat more than before without many work to be done to be "painted i will send a picure of that tomorrow…Hi Manos,
Good result with this checker. One thing I suggest to improve is the wings Ailerons scaled same as wings because painting e.g. rivets, will make difference (I mean the pixels). -
Hi Manos,

One thing I suggest to improve is the wings Ailerons scaled same as wings because painting e.g. rivets, will make difference (I mean the pixels). Its what im doing now Eghi thanks! Ailerons,Flaps and slats are scaled with the wings right now so no worries. Rudder as well is scaled to the fuselage halves. What is left is to do the wingtip pylons, wheel and airbrake bays, wheel doors and other small stuff… and then start to add details as i like, Afterburner nozzle pedals and maybe a little more detailed wheels

https://image.ibb.co/gEHgVb/F_5_wip14.jpgHello,
There is something I do not understand. For such somple airplane, why don’t you unwarp is in a much simple way?
My models are mostly unwrappred by hands, with flatten and normal mapping.
Why not for you?

If i told you i find it more easy this way you wil laugh i guess… I dont know to tell you the truth. I wanted to make it the way Phantom is but in the end my Phantom as much as detailed it is (modelwise) -and i had put a huge effort to the skin- theres still (skinwise) things i dont like. cause the fuselage is mapped wrong and as a whole entity. In the start i wanted to do this here as well but in the end i said -no i will flat everything-. As it goes for me at least the way im doing it it goes well and fast. Almost 85% Of the plane is ready so why stop now? And besides, with all the respect (dont get me wrong) everybody has its own way of working right? Thanks for your recommendations though all theese u said to me till now it helped me a lot even on my first steps

Manos,
I feel unease to read you like that.
I felt, you were looking for solutions to unwrap your aircraft, while your picture posted at 16:18 today does not shows an aircraft 85% unwrapped, just an automatic render of an unwrapping process, but I may be wrong, if so, I’m sorry for my assumptions.
Of course, you can do what you want, I have no right to ask you anything, and I didn’t asked you to follow my recommendations.

I was more interested to understand your workflow as you looked more to be experimenting with unwrapping from the picture I was referring above rather than being close from a completed uvw map.
Anyway, I wish you good luck with your project.

Manos,
for whatever unwrapping methode you use, just keep in mind
that the more unwrapping parts you have, the more drawcalls
are needed to draw that model insim. So from a performance POV, try to use less as possible unwrapping parts
for an object, the fuselage in this case. For example Unfold mapping of the whole object into one piece would
result in one drawcall, (for unwrapping/texmapping) but would be a PITA to paint, IMHO.BTW. to save more drawcalls, your model should have all vertices
welded and not more than 4 differently smoothing groups (1-4) set.Again for unwrapping/texmapping I suggest to place the parts on the
texture “in logical order” for easier rivets- and panel lines- painting.
That’s why I place my parts often among one another. But I use “box- mappping” like Radium, which results in something like:
- left view
- top view
- bottom view
- right view (mirrored vertically compared to left view)
In this order on the texture I can paint one straight (panel-) line
from top to bottom, which will surround the whole AC body, for example. All just my 2c, but I hope it helps a little to make your model(s) even nicer.
Cheers,

to tell the truth i was experimenting Until i found the “box-unwrap” that Lazy is saying above then all was easy and… I work a lot of time to this so i can probably post a pic of an unfinished model and after 3 hours will be ready… believe me most of my free time goes in this…

LSMost of the model is welded. I wanna finish with the details and stuf so i can make the whole model in 1 piece besides of course the moving parts. That helped me a lot before to make lower lods and static models as well, therefore i will have to make a clean up again as many parts will seem weird in sim but ok i will handle it i guess. Thank you for your recomendations as well As you can see im trying to cover as much as i can in a single texture (though i would love to have 4 as i have in Phantom) and have an alpha texture for lights/serials and afterburner.

Unwrapping is done. Also added the gear, gear door, gear extension dofs. A little bit of editing on those needed but im in a good way

Cheers
EGHIAs i said is still in wip i saw them in game to tell you the truth. no it needs still some edits as many things are not shown very well in 3ds or in Lodeditor u have to actually put the model in the 3dworld to see whats needs to be edited! There are some on the lower fuselage as well. Probably its cause of the welding of the vertices. Will fix it soon! cheers

First tests in game initiated
Looks good this far

Already looks sexy!..

Partially textured…

Just found this, does single seater used this livery?

That F-5 looks awesome!!! Can’t wait to see the final result.
Hellenic F-5s has very different (and awesome) paint schemes throughout their careers.
Like the camo above but also Aegean blue and grey on grey. -

Unfortunately, by the time I visited Greece all the F-5s were already turned to junk. Here’s what was “stored” at Larissa. My hosts were very nervous about me taking these photos.
Can someone spot the rare RF-5A?
There were heaps more dumped F-5s and F-4s around the base but most of them in a lot worse condition than these (which is why I only took these quick shots of them). I was a little bit distracted with the “main event”, which my hosts didn’t mind me photographing at all!
But these are sadly gone too now…

Spotted its the “01618” but why rare? I think also in the 1st Photo the first from the left is ex-jordan plane… Oh! also we had some from Iran and Netherlands… So imagine the variety in camouflage… A real headache to a scale modeler… Also another headach was the ejection seat… U had to be very careful witch serial you will choose. Some planes had the original Northorp seat, others had the MB dq-7 (i think i wrote it right…) and others later the MB MK-10…
