Adding new parents
-
Hi gents!
I wanna ask something, it might be allready answered but dont really have the time to search
Lets say i wanna add a new parent with the wing model for my EF i just make the folder with the parent number (lets say +1 from the last one or in one of the free ones) i want i add inside the lod and the dat file and then i just update the DB? My simple minded theory says that but is that the way? Or lets say a cockpit…
By the way i tried both the CMD and the Powershell comands for the parent list and i got nothing CMD almost took like 10 minutes and i didnt got the list and Powershel was just stressing my CPU and i was waiting more than 15 minute before i shutdown by ctrl+alt+del the process. Any ideas about that?
Thanks in advance!PS:my specs:
i7-4790K
32GB Xms3 ram
Radeon R-480 8gb
Crucial 1TB SSD ,<–BMS installation hard drive and System as well -
You have to do it through bms editor.

Wants to add a new a/c?
Extract 3DDB.
Add Parent folder with Parent.dat file and LODs.
Rebuild 3BBD.
Create your new a/c CT in the DB. 'easier is to duplicate an existing one)
Declare the new Parent in CT.
Create/Declare the aircraft.dat to be used. -

Oh! and still can’t get the empty parents list -

Follow the same procedure for 3ddb as when you extracted the DB…except instead of using 3ddb_builder.exe /extract, the command line is 3ddb_builder.exe /parents
That will create the Unused Parents.txt file.

So what about wing or cockpit model?
Oh … I’ve never added a cockpit. But I think you just have to add the parent folder, rebuild. Then declare it on ckpt files. IIRC, Cockpit Folder’s name has to be the same than the DB’s Vehicle name.

Hi C9! There is no “empty” parent in stock DB. The 3DDB is “defraged” and the “unused” parents listed by 3DDB.exe check must NOT be blindly trusted because it can’t take in account hardcoded parents (critical!). So add the last parent ID + 1.
EDIT: I will try to provide a list of Harcoded Parents that must NOT be used. If I forgot, remind me please.

Hmmm, should have generated it into your Objects folder if you opened the command prompt on that folder??
I’ve done it on 3 theaters and it’s worked fine.
Are you using the Windows PowerShell command or the CMD command? I do it all in CMD command.

I didn’t say there was!! I was referring to the way you get the unused parents list in a 3rd party add on theater.
But if you do use the 3DDB /parents command on the stock DB it will generate the Unused parents list with the hardcoded CT#'s!!!

Yeah you’re 100% right … my bad! … thank you for correcting me!

These are the hardcoded CT’s of the Stock DB in case you want to start a dedicated thread for them Dee-Jay. Would have posted them earlier but I had to go to the Doctor for outpatient surgery!!

Is there anyway to find a particular cockpit, wings or canopy model for those A/C not contained within the cockpit parents list? Ofcourse given they exist in the first place.
-
You’d think after all this time, hundreds of threads and thousands of questions, there would be a written step by step procedure manual to help you in your quest.

Glad you are fine. Take care of you and be more careful next time … we need a strong community.

a bit OT…
anyone ever try drogue-basket refueling in 4.34? pic or vid would be great.
i’ve not checked this part yet… got to learn new comm first. -
Guess what, ccc1tw?
You gave me a good idea. What do you prefer to learn about, the Viper only or some more planes able to do it in alternative?
(Update: I flew a custom TE and all went out fine. I was able to communicate to the tanker on the assigned frequency (U. 13) when I came near almost 5 miles to it - or her? Boh, don’t know. And since then all went fine, anyway. Some weird I’ve noticed? This one. What frequency has been assigned to talk to the AWACS? I found nothing about in the briefing. And more strange, when in flight I wasn’t actually able to, even if I had it on my radar. More to investigate, I guess.)
With best regards. -
