F-18 pilots ejecting while in formation with tanker waiting for AAR
-
Hello!!
Original KTO
I was live streaming with friends yesterday and saw this happen. It’s not the first time we see this F-18 pilots’ behaviour: they eject all of a sudden while in formation with the tanker. Maybe they have run out of fuel, but i think an alternate field would be a better option \o
We were refueling over the borderline between north and south Korea, so lots of alternate fields…
link:Thank you!!!

Why do they refuel in low fuel situation rather than simply landing on a closer field? Is it TE or Campaing?

most probably that at the “decision time”, it was OK to go to the tanker but if the tanker is busy then it can start to become critical.
and when they are in tanker queue, they dont run bingo logic anymore and wont leave the queue even running on fumes

That is what I thought. I was rather questioning the mission planning and if the AAR was scheduled in the flight plan.

Yes, the AAR was schedule in the flight plan!!!
It was a campaign.
Regarding your question: are you refering to the F-18s on low AAR? Do they do it on Falcon BMS? I don’t know!!
In IRL, i guess it’s a time matter!! And other lots of things that would make a simple reflueling something much more hard going… But i’m not sure!!
Thanks for the replies, guys!!!

in real, pilots have a brain
in game, AI is following what the coders has decided to code.
If the coder has no brain, you’re fuxed

Enroute AAR or as an “option” (being the last waypoint)?
IRL, AAR is rather planned before push. Post strike AAR is to allow a/c to recovery on home plate but should (must) not be mandatory. Flight must have enough fuel to consider a safe recovery even without AAR.
If you “force” a flight to perform an AAR instead of a safe landing, it is not the best idea … one can never know if AAR will be successful, if transfer can be effective and or if Tanker will be present.
Planned AAR has to be considered before the Push because you Bingo (or minimum fuel) at push shall never require an AAR in Egress. -
In BMS, even human pilots happen not to have brains sometimes
