Any Tricks to moving Ground Units?
-
In a Iron Fortress Campaign. I understand that I must move units.(I played 1 game and they didn’t move at all while all controlled by HQ) I right click each unit and then uncheck the HQ box. Then I left click again on unit and move the white circle to where I want the unit to go. For the most part works just fine, however as time goes on I find that certain units still don’t move at all, or I click on them and the line and white circle designating their movement does not correspond to anything I requested. In some instances the unit movement circle comes up yellow. In some instances they white movement circle doesn’t appear at all. Is there some trick to getting these units to actually do what I request? thank you for any help you may give me.

I wasn’t aware that you “must” move those units to win the campaign. Interested to hear thoughts from others…

Has anyone played the sim as a Theater commander I have moved ground units on the map and jumped into different aircraft watched the battle with the different cameras and jumped back out to the map similar to 'Digital Image Design TAW
But back then we had the AI autopilot that has since then been removed but I never tried to play the campaign as a commander. -

You don’t “have to” but it is something that is recommended. However I believe that some units though taken into control of the player may not move due to them being support units and aren’t “activated” until some condition has been met possibly??
I too have had this same problem and would like to know how to prevent it in the future if it isn’t an issue with them being support. I think I remember hearing at one point that ground units have move points and if exhausted, they will not move.

if you can not move this battalion, that means you will not move it forever. It became dead zoombie.
It maybe caused by campaign engine.

Still there is curiosity as to what exactly could cause that to happen. I would like to start a new campaign and play with these features, I’m wondering how do I airlift units to get to certain places?

Ground units follow links. And use objectives to be tasked to. So these are the 2 main consideration you have to keep in mind. You can’t just move a ground unit to any place you want.

When you say follow links, do you mean that they have to stay with their brigade in order for the commander to continue to move them on the battlefield?
I understand I can’t move them willy nilly but I just want to be able to keep them moving and not get stuck.

Here I will show the results of fully managing a campaign controlling almost all of the ground units. I was able to complete the Tiger Spirit campaign at Ace settings in 20 hrs. 34 mins of elapsed clock time. All missions were flown in online MP sessions. All squadrons were fully managed as well, including loadouts, I leave nothing up to chance.
Video of JSTAR replay
Force levels, Kangnung, Major AB on East coast was taken out early on in the campaign by Red Forces, and came back online for the last few mission taskings of the campaign. Not many red side bases were destroyed by me as I like to keep the the air engagements active throughout the campaign.

I appreciate you showing me this however, how did you manage everything on top of flying? Did you use airlift ops as well?
-
Yes I did use Airlift flights to keep bases supplied. I also did use Air Mobile flights to bring up Patriot battalions from Air Bases down South where they weren’t needed. I flew every mission I could of course. I have a thread I started here on the forum explaining, with a video, to show how the Air Mobile of the Patriot battalions were done.
Here is that thread link from last August,

I’m grateful for your response and example of how to move units via airlift…even air defense units airlifted comes at quite a shock. I will watch and thank you for your dedication and interest in noobs like me that don’t understand the engine that well.

I played the first Iron Fortress where I didn’t move units and after a couple of days they totally stopped being moved by the campaign engine. In searching somewhere in this forum I saw that this was a recognized issue and that you needed to move the units.

Can you expand on this Oak?

Picture say’s more than thousand words.
Orange Lines are links. Ground unit will follow the links to move. Move order should end at an object with a propper action. I usually do my ground orders through MC rather than BMS 2D UI

Oak, thanks. But the majority of my ground unit movement lines are simply white, not orange. Any significance to that?

Just a tip, double click on any unit will do the same, then you can place the white circle where you want. Much quicker than this old method.
