Ice’s Falcon BMS Profile Updated for BMS 4.37

@Icer quick test, just sat on the ramp…
-
Hi there!
Is someone working on updating this profile to 4.36 state (new charts, etc.)?
Cheers

Ok, that makes more sense as I was running on the taxiway, this is when I drop in the dead jet on the ramp…
-
@Icer Is it better to test on the ramp or on the taxiway or on the runway start? I may do this testing later on.
-
@Micro_440th Not at the moment.
-
@Atlas Do you have Vertical Sync checked in the BMS graphics settings? Since 4.35 this seemed to have a significant impact on any lag in Helios, but I have no idea why.

I will say I did not and got the lag, but reinstalling and creating a new profile solved it for me…

@linknet I’ve not seen the need to turn it on so it has never been turned on. Are you saying turning it on will help?

I’ve never used Triple Buffering either…
-
@Atlas I’m saying that turning it on helped some people, the only way is to try it. Not sure about triple buffering which I don’t think is necessary.
-
@linknet @Icer ok, I’ll try both on/off for vsync and triple buffering.
In the meantime, I’ve got this log from my recent tests. About 2 or 3 cycles of climbs and dives here and aside from a bit of a framerate drop from 200+ to 160, I really can’t see anything that looks like the culprit for the lags. The times when the framerate drops, no CPU usage or CPU temp effects, RAM usage is the same. Some cores seem to be doing more work than others but still the usage on those cores do not really seem to sync up with anything from the framerate drops.
-
Found the culprit — some issue maybe with high framerates??
I turned on vsync and that fixed all the issues. Tried with triple buffering on and off and didn’t seem to make a difference, so vsync was the key. Stable 120fps all throughout my 3 cycles of climb/dive and Helios was smooth like butter, so smooth I could cry!!
-
@Atlas I should have suggested it before since there are various times that this has arisen in this thread and that has been the solution. The trouble is I assume that everyone has read everything but the thread is now so long that it’s now virtually impossible to do that.
I think it must be an internal issue with BMS since 4.35 whereby it fails to update shared memory on a regular basis without vertical sync being enabled. The only people who could answer that would be the BMS developers
-
@Micro_440th I’ve simply copied and pasted the 4.36 charts into the C:…\Helios\Images\FalconBMS Images 4.35\Charts folder. And self-modified where needed with the new 4.36 Keyfiles.
-
@linknet Could’ve saved me some time for sure but don’t worry about it! The thread is TL;DR territory for sure!
I’m just so, so, so happy that Helios is smooth as butter now! On to training and more fps testing!
A bit of interesting stuff here – seems like vsync/triple buffering on or off doesn’t do much for fps penalty, at least for my specs. This was taken using the benchmark TE, ramp start, and sat on the ramp for about 5 minutes or so to let the game run a bit. Average fps is the same, 1% and 0.1% low almost exactly the same, min fps slightly lower, max fps almost the same.

I am trying to alter this profile for 4.36, but am experiencing a problem:
In HELIOS I cannot bind following Key Bindings.
- SimExtlMasterOff
- SimExtlMasterCovertAll
- itemSimExtlCovertAC
- SimExtlCovertForm
The only one I see is SimExtlMasterNorm
PS. All these binding are bound to a key in my keyfile and are visible in Falcon BMS 4.36.
Has anyone experienced the same problem?

Look at those callbacks in notepad. If the third section is anything but a 0 Helios will ignore the callback.
SimExtlMasterInc 116 2 0xC8 3 0 0 1 “EXT: MASTER Knob - Step Up”
SimExtlMasterDec 116 3 0xCD 3 0 0 1 “EXT: MASTER Knob - Step Down”These two callbacks have a 2 & 3 in the third section. They will be ignored by Helios. If this is the case for your callbacks just change the third section of each callback to a 0 “zero”. Then reload the profile in Helios Profile Editor.

@Todd1215
That solved my problem.
Thank You Sir!

I’m making my way through the first tutorial TE and I’m having an issue with the canopy close switch. Flick it downwards and the canopy goes down by about 1 inch maybe. I have to activate the switch many times for it to even move a significant amount. Using the key bind for the callback is no problem, pressing and holding the keys is equivalent to holding down the switch, releasing the keys returns the switch to the middle position and stops the canopy movement. Using the Helios switch to open the canopy works as intended though.
Can anyone confirm this is an issue for the canopy close switch? Thanks!

Hi all,
Just wanted to post these things in case they are helpful to anyone.
There is an updated Helios profile with the new Ext Lighting panel implemented as its own panel. I also reworked the key file by starting with the BMS PitBuilder profile and then tweaking some things as needed for the Helios profile. This was mainly for my sanity in adding the new callbacks. Finally there is a python script that will verify that the profile’s BMS key file has all the necessary bindings in it. Enjoy.
The panel image was cropped from the combined panel image that zeek provided earlier.
