Gripen for BMS. What do you think ?

@parislord Unfortunately, Royal Canadian Air Force will just be another Wing of US Air Force with F-35.
-
@Radium: Yup, but the blog was excellent reading.

Used to love reading the “Gripen4Canada” blog!
I’m reading the blog right now and it is awesome!
As a Brazilian, i’m very proud of our airforce choice (Brazilian Air Force) for the JAS-39 “E/F” Gripen (F-39E/F in the Brazilian Air Force designation)

Hi, Radium. Just to “stir the pot” a bit, I voted for the E as a starting point for-

@Reaperdog1 legacy C is very possible
-
I spoke to a SAAB pilot, who said his palms were always sore.
I asked why.
He said that he was always gripen the flight stick too firmly.
-
I voted for C model, it’s a cool jet, used by many countries.
But one thing for sure with E model (and Fat Amy too). Pit-building gonna be much easier/cheaper. Just get your old monitor, slap on it touchscreen layer, add on numpad keyboard and half of the pit is done -
About the cockpit of “E” model…
The WAD (Wide Area Display) is a choice of the Brazilian Air Force, but there are configurations of the classic “3 screen MFD” in the Gripen E.
The Swedish Air Force first choice was for the “3 screen MFD”, and later they change to the WAD (same as the Brazilian version)

@Radium Looking forward to it. I just saw a 2-ship of Gripen’s today here in south sweden overflying our holiday flat in lower level. Such beauties!
-
@Radium , will you be doing a functional cockpit ?
-
Was he this guy ?
-
The second cockpit is a Gripen A variant. there was monocrome smaller displays. Radium linked before the C cockpit .

@repvez
TRUE LoL oh well didn’t pick up on that earlier. -
Hello,
we could debate a lot about a future Gripen cockpit.
First generation cockpits of Gripen A are the most “BMS friendly”. It would be rather easy to make something relevant.
Second generation of Gripen A are almost the same, and does not represent such an issue for BMS.
Third generation cockpits of Gripen C are maybe the toughest to make, because screens are absolutely not BMS friendly. I feel most suspicious to be able to make something nice.
Fourth generation cockpits with Gripen E would not be so difficult, because center wide screen makes it possible to put a lot of things inside. That being said, I do not aim to make a cockpit for E, as long as I don’t even think now about an exterior model.
So, for now, I would rather do a Gripen A cockpit, for it’s suitability with BMS. That being said, it also means that no air refuel and other stuff will be possible…
This means : no decision yet.
Cheers,
Radium

@Radium
If you want i can send you what i have done so far in the past to continue it even though i have to admit it has errors
Cheers -
@RadiumJust a question , nothing offensive.
Why so difficult to do the C cockpit ?
I don’t know the details about the rules of BMS engine, but for me Modell wise the only difference to make a bigger screen and the symbology are coloured.
If the difficulties are to make a bigger screen then why more easier to do a super big screen for the E variant? -
Hello Repvez,
biggest issue with JAS-39C is the format of MFDs. As you see, they are not squarish at all. Therefore, and because the background colors are so different from F-16, I don’t expect to have something nice.
Regards,
Radium

Yes indeed, but the E varians’s MFD either. both of them rectangle. Is it hard coded limit the MFD’ssizes? The MFD background colour is black as you can see on the pic like the Falcon one.I just would like to learn what we can do and what not to push the boundaries .
And If I see the F22 has more than 3 MFD so if the BMS is support more than 3 MFD then maybe there are some capable to hack into 6 MFD and combine together like a borderless 3 rectangle MFD to be.
The E varians’s one screen seems like if the 3 C varians’s MFD put together also.If this hack is workable there maybe someone can make the Blk 30 CPD cockpit too same way.

Hello Repvez,
in fact, this is rather simple. If I take F/A-18C cockpit solutions in BMS, here is what we can do for Gripen E :
For Gripen C, most relevant would be this :
Beside that, I don’t like stretched MFD, because it always look terrible and unrealistic :
In both case, I could make a static center MFD, with functional gauges inside.
I keep what I said, I am not confident to do a Gripen C cockpit.
I believe that the most suitable would be a Gripen A cockpit :
So, this is the reason why, for now, I don’t plan a Gripen cockpit.
Cheers,
Radium
